Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 64 Icy and Snowy Land
New Mexico, desert.
The scorching air in the sand was frozen, and the golden sand was covered with a pale, hard shell. The sudden drop in temperature caused the sand to emit countless tiny cracking sounds, like millions of teeth chattering.
The snow and ice began to spread, as if the concept of "winter" was brutally painting reality. The swirling ice, like a tornado shooting into the sky, swept across the desert with impunity. Wherever the blue and white ice lines passed, all color and vitality were stripped away, leaving only dazzling ice crystals.
Ten miles away, at the S.H.I.E.L.D. camp.
"Our people observed extremely cold weather half an hour ago."
Coulson stood beside the makeshift screen in the camp and spoke with a serious expression.
"The unusually low temperatures and snow sweeping across the desert are definitely supernatural phenomena. And according to observations, that thing is moving...approaching us. We must assume that something in this place is attracting it."
He turned his gaze to Tony. Tony nodded. "Hammer."
The hammer that fell from the sky was the very reason this camp was established. Although the true nature of that supernatural vortex is unknown, it is very likely that it came for this hammer.
"According to our calculations, the center of that vortex is about ten miles away," Coulson said. "But at this rate, we'll reach the camp soon, and we'll have to evacuate."
At that moment, an agent came in from outside: "Sir, it's that blond guest. He says he might know something."
Coulson and Tony exchanged a glance. Tony shrugged. "Let's hear what he has to say."
So the two of them went to Thor's room again.
By this time, Thor had stood up from his chair. Compared to his previous dejection and utter despair, he now looked somewhat uneasy.
“I’ve seen similar cases,” Thor said. “That was ice magic. And judging from your description, someone who can wield ice magic of this strength is most likely a frost giant from Jotunheim. They are masters of this.”
Coulson's expression turned somewhat strange: "Okay... alright. Let me sort this out. When you say frost giants, are you referring to the kind from Norse mythology?"
"Yes. I don't know why they're in Midgard, but they're dangerous." Thor paused, took a deep breath, and added, "And I think they might be here for me."
Coulson: "And you came?"
"Yes, because I attacked their country and killed many of their people," Saul said firmly. "You must believe me, you must let me through."
They will only leave when they find me, so as to avoid harming innocent people.
Thor turned his gaze to Tony as he spoke. In his eyes, Tony was the only one here who would believe him.
"Okay, I understand." Coulson nodded after listening, then turned to Tony and said, "Want to come out and say something?"
The two left the room and closed the door behind them.
Standing outside the door, Coulson asked, "You're not going to tell me that what he said is true, are you?"
"This is a crazy world, anything is possible," Tony said.
Coulson sighed. "Alright. I just contacted headquarters, and Director Fury just gave instructions. The situation here is going to become very dangerous very soon; we need to abandon the camp."
Director Fury has ordered all experts to be evacuated to a safe distance, including you, Mr. Stark. S.H.I.E.L.D. is very grateful for your assistance.
"Okay. But before I leave, I have to ask one more question," Tony asked, "What are your plans?"
Coulson said, "We're moving several exoskeleton armors from headquarters here. These armors are designed to withstand extreme cold. We'll send armored agents closer to the heart of the cold wave to gather intelligence before making any further plans."
"An exoskeleton. Let me guess, Stark Industries?" Tony raised an eyebrow.
Coulson didn't shy away from the topic: "Stark Industries has sold all sorts of weapons products in the past, and A.H.I.E.L.D. has purchased some models and modified them."
While the Iron Man armor represents groundbreaking technology, exoskeletons certainly didn't just appear out of thin air starting with Iron Man.
Stark Industries was once the world's leading arms manufacturer, so it's impossible that they hadn't been involved in the exoskeleton business. However, exoskeletons before Iron Man didn't possess such advanced technology as the arc reactor.
The difference in this one core technology alone determines that the output and performance of the exoskeleton armor purchased by S.H.I.E.L.D. cannot be compared with Iron Man, and the endurance is even more different.
"I won't interfere with your action plans, but I have a small suggestion."
Tony glanced sideways at the room behind him that had closed the door, and said.
"If that blond guy inside insists on going, you might as well take him with you when you go."
Coulson frowned. "But we don't even know anything about him. He has no household registration, no driver's license, no birth certificate... nothing at all, he's just an anonymous person. There are suspicious things about him..."
"That's why I said it was just a suggestion. How you act on it is up to you."
Tony waved his hand.
"Alright, I'm getting ready to leave. Good luck, Agent Coulson."
Coulson said goodbye to him without saying anything more, only turning his head to look at the room behind him where Thor was locked up, seemingly lost in thought as well.
...
...
Tony and the other experts were put on a SHIELD transport plane and quickly evacuated the camp.
After being evacuated to a safe distance, the group was placed in a small town in Mexico, and the transport plane immediately departed.
Most of the other experts went home, but Tony wasn't in a hurry to leave. He contacted Jarvis and found Stark Industries, which happened to be nearby. It was clear that Stark Industries had a property in this town—a solar concentrator experimental facility in the New Mexico desert.
However, it can't be considered a coincidence. Stark Industries are all over the country, so the probability of bumping into one of their own companies is not low, no matter where you go.
Tony contacted the head of the testing facility directly and requested a temporary safe house.
Once inside his safe house, Tony made sure he wasn't being monitored or disturbed by anyone. He then locked the door and put on a metal headband.
It was a semi-open headband that incorporated a single-lens monitor, with the transparent, curved blue light lens positioned directly in front of Tony's eyes when worn.
The moment Tony pressed the start button, various holographic images and icons were projected in front of him, as if a whole curved monitor had been projected onto his screen.
"Alright Jarvis, let's test our new technology today." Tony pressed his earpiece and gave the order, "Mark 7, deactivate stealth mode."
As soon as he finished speaking, in the empty room behind Tony, the massive Mark VII armored vehicle materialized out of thin air, standing like a silent guard.
