Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 39 The mantis stalks the cicada
By hacking into the "Nemesis Energy" server and all its communication logs with Senator Sent, Jarvis helped Tony obtain the exact location and time of the arms deal.
The Mark 6 is currently flying at approximately Mach 2, and the distance from Stark's residence to the transaction location is about 4,500 miles. This means that Tony will have about three hours of flight time inside the armor.
Tony planned to use the three-hour flight as his rest time for the day, allowing himself to get a short nap during the flight to replenish his energy.
Compared to the deafening noise of the Mark III during flight, the noise reduction of the Panzer VI has been quite excellent through generations of armor upgrades.
If you were to make a phone call while flying in the Mark III armor at full power, the noise would probably sound to the other person like you were driving a convertible at over 150 miles per hour.
But now, upgraded to the Mark VI, the cabin is so quiet during flight that it's almost like a desolate wilderness in the dead of night.
In addition, the armor has real-time intelligent control of temperature, humidity, oxygen concentration and other functions to ensure that the wearer is always in the most comfortable state, so the sleeping experience during armor flight is actually not bad.
Tony was constantly on edge, and his sleep was never enough. Therefore, after the Iron Man armor ignited and took off, Tony was already asleep before reaching the stratosphere.
Unfortunately, it wasn't a dream.
The first scene in my dream was New York, or more precisely, the New York from "The Avengers".
He saw a massive wormhole, as if the sky had been torn apart, and saw the Chitauri motherships, resembling giant mechanical insects, flying down from the wormhole one by one, with even more Chitauri warriors swarming down like locusts.
He saw how powerless he was in the face of that endless, locust-like army, how his armor and ammunition were depleted, his energy exhausted, and how he could only fall helplessly with himself, plummeting towards the ocean of alien troops below...
The second scene is on Titan in Avengers: Infinity War. He sees himself as Tony in the movie, facing Thanos who already possesses all five Infinity Stones. He gives his all, using everything he has, but mortal strength and flesh and blood are still weak in the face of the Infinity Stones.
So in the end, he was pierced through the body by his own nanoblade, and ultimately failed to reverse his fate and rewrite history...
Thanos was the original Tony's nightmare, but now he's become the current Tony's nightmare.
The final nightmare is even more comical.
Finally, he dreamed that he was thrown off Stark Tower by Loki, and the Mark VII armor, which transformed from its flight capsule state, narrowly caught up with him, unfolding, covering, and enveloping his body in mid-air, completing its deployment and covering his entire body in the last moment before landing.
However, just when he thought he had narrowly escaped being smashed to pieces, the helmet covered him, the built-in display in front of his eyes activated, and a line of text clearly appeared on the screen:
Windows is updating; please do not disconnect the power.
Then...then Tony woke up with a start.
Okay, this last nightmare is a bit absurd—after all, he doesn't use Windows anymore, but a system he developed entirely on his own, so this situation is simply impossible.
But Tony knew perfectly well that the first two nightmares remained a knot in his heart.
He was always uneasy because he didn't know if he could do better than the original Tony, or if he could rewrite history.
Therefore, all he can do is upgrade faster, become stronger, and prepare more comprehensive countermeasures for every potential threat.
"We've reached our destination, sir," Jarvis reminded him.
The spoilers on the shoulders and back of the Mark VI opened, and the armor began to slow down.
Tony said, "Activate stealth mode."
The armor slowed down dramatically, and the engine noise was reduced to a minimum. A ripple of optical camouflage slowly passed over the armor, which became transparent like a chameleon until it disappeared completely.
He silently lowered his altitude, hovering in mid-air. Meanwhile, Jarvis had already marked the target scene in his HUD.
Old-fashioned heavy trucks were parked on the side of the road in the wilderness, their bodies covered in dried mud and dust.
There were about a dozen people standing beside the car. The blond man in the lead was leaning against the car door, wearing a dark tactical jacket with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing blue tattoo patterns on his pale skin.
Tony's HUD zoomed in, clearly showing the face of the blond leader. Simultaneously, the man's face was locked in the display, and a facial recognition process scrolled down, providing a match within a second.
Vincent Hale. He and his associates were arms smugglers, with Obadiah Stane once being their biggest supplier. Although Obadiah has fallen from power, their small group continues to operate.
These people were sellers. Tony quickly scanned the truck with his armor; it was loaded with the weapons they were about to sell.
They are all Stark products.
Hydra, the buyer, hasn't appeared yet. But that's not surprising; there are still twenty minutes until the transaction, so it seems the seller arrived first.
If Tony were to act now, he could easily take down this group of sellers and recover these illegally leaked weapons. These individuals pose absolutely no threat to the Iron Man armor.
However, he did not act rashly, but continued to conduct a comprehensive scan of the surrounding environment further away.
Tony's caution proved well-founded. The armor's heat sensors unexpectedly detected yet another heat source on a hillside several hundred meters away.
Is there someone else spying on this deal besides yourself?
As the saying goes, "the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole that follows," Tony immediately became interested.
This means that in addition to the buyer, seller, and the owner of the weapon, there was also a fourth party secretly watching this transaction.
Even a small trading venue could be filled with enough people to play mahjong.
Tony remained invisible, moving stealthily to a higher vantage point where he could see the spy's face. He zoomed in on the HUD and performed a further scan.
Behind a boulder on the hillside lay a blonde woman. She was quite pretty, her shapely figure tightly wrapped in a black leather jacket, her eyes fixed intently on the situation below.
Barbara Morse, a senior agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., codenamed Bionic Bird.
Tony: "So S.H.I.E.L.D. has gotten involved too?"
Jarvis: "It seems so, sir. Perhaps we don't need to do it ourselves?"
"No, she's all alone here," Tony said. "She's most likely just gathering intelligence, tracking and recording information about buyers and sellers; she probably won't make a move today."
Even as a top-tier agent, Barbara was ultimately alone. The seller below had ten fully armed men, not to mention the Hydra buyers who would be arriving later.
Tony said, "We gave them a heads-up last time, and Fury probably already spotted Hydra's trail. The Bionic Bird is Fury's confidant, so maybe it came here this time because it was following Hydra's lead."
Jarvis said, "That's possible, sir."
"But wait, the bionic bird is Fury's confidante, and she happens to be here spying and gathering intelligence..."
Tony's mind raced, and a brilliant idea suddenly popped into his head.
"Wait a minute, don't you think this is an opportunity, Jia?" Tony's eyes lit up.
Jarvis: "I... don't quite understand, sir."
Tony said, "Last time we put a fuss over Hydra and gave Fury a little warning, but I felt that wasn't enough. And now, Fury's confidante is right here watching. It wasn't something we intentionally set up; she just happened to be here infiltrating and searching."
"So, what if I took this opportunity to let her see something she shouldn't have seen, and gave her some even more explosive information than last time to take back... wouldn't Fury be very excited?"
"This..." Jarvis paused for two seconds, "...sounds like a tempting idea, sir."
