Marvel: I am Iron Man

Chapter 29 Gamma World

AIM has only appeared in a few Easter eggs in the Marvel movies and is not considered a formally introduced villain. Therefore, Tony's main impression of the organization comes from the comics.

One of the most profound impressions this mourning organization left on him can be summed up in two words.

seek death.

Throughout Marvel's long history, aside from the minor squabbles and regular inventions in comics, AIM has about three inventions that have made their mark on comic book history.

One of them is the Super Optimizer, a high-tech robot capable of replicating any superpower. However, after becoming the complete version, the Optimizer suddenly realized that with his awesomeness, there was no need for him to die with this hopeless organization, so he decided to go solo, defect, and run away.

The second instance was when this organization stumbled upon a magical artifact called the Cosmic Cube by sheer luck. Unlike the Tesseract in the movie, which was adapted into a container for the Space Stone, this thing was a terrifying artifact capable of rewriting reality. However, in the end, the Cosmic Cube also went out of control due to sensing the negative emotions of the AIM leader, nearly destroying the world even though AIM itself couldn't control it.

The last one is even more interesting. The Mourning Organization attempted to create a spiritual creature designed for killing, so they chose an easy target called Modoc for their modification experiments.

The experiment was a success, but also a failure. The big-headed doll, Modor, gained extraordinary mental strength and superpowers, and turned the tables on his creator, conquering the organization. From then on, he served as the leader of AIM for a long time in the comics.

Strictly speaking, they should be said to have created a father for themselves.

Therefore, it is not difficult to see from the above history that AIM is a group of mad scientists who have "courting death" in their DNA. Adhering to the principle of "as long as you don't die, just do whatever you want," the organization tirelessly devotes itself to one creation after another that may destroy the world and themselves.

What's even more interesting is that these people not only love to risk their lives, but also hate to include any safety measures in their work. It's a bit like some people who love extreme sports but don't like to wear safety harnesses.

And now Tony has discovered yet another major disaster that this organization has just committed.

At the very base he had just marked, he detected a lethal dose of gamma energy.

Yes, gamma energy. The kind of gamma energy that might make you bigger, greener, and wear out your pants terribly.

Based on the monitoring data, it's estimated that this AIM base is engaged in gamma energy-related research. There's likely a gamma energy source inside the base, which is continuously radiating gamma energy outwards, even at this moment.

Moreover, the energy was so strong that it could be observed with the naked eye. It was as if a beam of light shot into the air from the center of the base, forming a hemispherical field that enveloped the entire base.

Even more terrifying is that this hemisphere is expanding outward at a slow but steady pace.

This quickly reminded Tony of a classic story arc in the Avengers comics called "Gamma World." It tells the story of a gamma laboratory that goes out of control, causing the gamma energy shield to expand endlessly and eventually engulf the entire Earth.

It is clear that the organization AIM is secretly conducting gamma-ray related experiments—perhaps they also want to replicate the Hulk accident to create a bio-weapon like the Hulk.

However, based on the data Tony has repeatedly monitored and collected, the experiment may have failed. A gamma energy source went out of control, leading to an accident similar to that in the story of "Gamma World".

The gamma field is expanding infinitely and may eventually engulf the entire globe.

What would happen to the person who was enveloped in this gamma radiation shield?

Will it die instantly? Or will it turn green, grow bigger, and become naked?

No one said it was bad.

"F*ck! Why are these lunatics so good at causing trouble?" Tony wiped his face.

This is a potential global crisis, affecting everyone on this little blue planet. If we stand idly by, we're all doomed.

Jarvis: "This looks like a very serious crisis, sir. What do we do?"

"Let me think... I know a little about the gamma realm, but I'd have to cram a bit more to deal with this kind of problem," Tony pondered. "But I know someone who's more authoritative in the gamma realm than I am... more authoritative than anyone else in the world."

Jarvis had already accessed the file: "You mean Dr. Bruce Banner? He has seven doctoral degrees, and gamma rays were his primary research area; he was known as the 'world's leading gamma expert.' But if you want Dr. Banner's help, it might be difficult."

Jarvis then pulled up another wanted poster, which prominently featured Banner's photo.

"Dr. Bruce Banner is now a wanted man across the country. The military has been searching for him, but his whereabouts remain unknown."

"Yes, we can't find Banner, but someone can." Tony's mind quickly became active.

He thought of the plot of *The Avengers*. Loki arrives on Earth, the Tesseract is stolen, and S.H.I.E.L.D. assembles potential Avengers candidates. Back then, they easily found Banner, who was hiding in a foreign slum under an assumed name.

Bruce Banner thought he was well hidden, but in reality, his whereabouts were always under S.H.I.E.L.D. surveillance. And Nick Fury, being the man he is, certainly wouldn't let a half-ton humanoid self-propelled gamma reactor go missing.

Thinking about this, Tony said, "What would an ordinary person do if they discovered illegal activity, Jarvis?"

Jarvis thought for a moment: "Uh... call the police? sir?"

"Yes, call the police," Tony said. "S.H.I.E.L.D. can find Banner, and Banner can handle this."

Judging from the current situation, the size of this gamma field is not very large, barely enough to cover the AIM base. In addition, the AIM base is located in a remote and hidden location, and has undergone some technical concealment measures, so at present, it is likely that only Tony has noticed this crisis.

"But you just said that S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra might not have much time to deal with other issues lately..." Jarvis reminded him.

"I'm talking about the general situation, but now that the world is about to end, it's not too late to put their petty squabbles aside for now," Tony said irritably.

Jarvis: "So, I should report this to S.H.I.E.L.D. and seek their cooperation?"

"Cooperation? No, not for now." Tony thought. "Let's check our S.H.I.E.L.D. files."

Tony also maintained a dedicated file on S.H.I.E.L.D., which contained some information about S.H.I.E.L.D.

He quickly checked and filtered the information: "Let me see... There's a weather station within a hundred miles of that AIM base. We're sure it's an old-style Aegis monitoring station, right?"

Jarvis: "Yes, sir. Compared to existing SHIELD facilities, the security protocols there are relatively outdated."

"Excellent entry point. We'll use a Trojan to infect a civilian server that exchanges data with the weather station, and use that server as a springboard." Tony snapped his fingers. "From there, we'll access SHIELD's monitoring network, and then modify the gamma anomaly data stream..."

Jarvis continued, "That way, S.H.I.E.L.D. will assume that their facilities detected the abnormal gamma energy, and thus become aware of the incident at this base. S.H.I.E.L.D. will then naturally contact Dr. Bruce Banner to handle it. A brilliant plan, sir."

"Of course, I know I'm a genius," Tony accepted the compliment without hesitation. "But now, let's get to work."
