Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 28 The Dead Are More Useful Than the Living
Tony's plan is going smoothly, Fury's operation to catch the rat is entering its final countdown, and things are really not going well for former Director Pierce, who represents the Hydra camp.
At that moment, he was raging in Hydra's underground base.
"Which damn bastard said we killed Sitwell?!" Pierce roared in fury.
A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in a black suit standing nearby said with his head down, "Uh... but according to the intelligence we've gathered, it seems that S.H.I.E.L.D. has basically confirmed this."
Furthermore, according to the on-site investigation team's report, they have retrieved nearby surveillance footage and confirmed that the Winter Soldier was seen passing by...
"That's absolutely unbelievable!" Pierce slammed his fist on the table in fury. "At the time Sitwell was murdered, the Winter Soldier was giving me a briefing on the last mission and conducting her regular brainwashing maintenance!"
He slammed his fist on the poor table, making a loud thud, while pointing at the Winter Soldier standing by the door like a guardian deity.
"You mean he can still be in two places at once, giving me a briefing while simultaneously going out to kill someone, right?"
The Serpent Shield agent quickly lowered his head, not daring to engage again, but secretly he was grumbling to himself.
He thought to himself, "Boss, what's the point of getting angry with me? If you're so arrogant, then why don't you show Fury the alibi for this century-old popsicle?"
However, it's obvious that this is impossible.
What else could Pierce say?
Hey? Fury? It's Pierce. I need to tell you something. About that Sitwell murder, it wasn't the Winter Soldier. What? How do you think I know? Because he had just killed someone and was giving me a briefing. I even brainwashed him. I have video evidence...
What's even more infuriating is that with Sitwell's murder, Fury might actually be able to follow the clues and find something.
After all, Pierce knew that Sitwell was a true-blue Serpent Shield Man.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Pierce's fierce gaze swept across the room, and none of the Serpent Shield agents dared to raise their heads or even breathe loudly, for fear of becoming their boss's punching bag.
Pierce never imagined that one day Hydra would be framed and made a scapegoat by some unknown bastard, and that he would be unable to defend himself.
The key point is that although the murder claim is frame-up, investigating this way might actually uncover their wrongdoing. If I were to catch some bastard who dared to pin the blame on me, I'd teach that audacious fellow a lesson...
Thinking of this, Pierce suddenly felt a flash of inspiration, as if struck by lightning.
Wait a minute, the guy who set up this trap to frame Hydra... could it be that old fox Fury?
Pierce paced back and forth in the room with his hands behind his back, his gaze cold and menacing.
He had long known that Nick Fury was no pushover, and he had long suspected that Fury might one day uncover some clues. However, he felt that day wouldn't come so soon; by then, Hydra would already be ready to rise to prominence and no longer fear Nick Fury.
But what if Fury has already discovered something amiss, suspects there's a mole within SHIELD but lacks evidence, so he orchestrated this whole thing...?
Absolutely possible!
Fury's choice to target Sitwell, starting with Sitwell's death, might even indicate that Fury had already confirmed through some channels that Sitwell was the mole.
Thinking about this, Pierce immediately felt that this conjecture had at least a 50%... no, a 60% probability.
So he clenched his fists and squinted his eyes.
"Well, Fury. Looks like I underestimated you..."
...
...
Tony Stark, the mastermind behind all of this, had already left the vortex and moved on to the next project on his to-do list.
If things go smoothly from here on out, we'll have to thank Baldy Sitwell.
In fact, throughout the original film, Agent Sitwell, a double agent, played almost no role in advancing the plot until he was eliminated by the Winter Soldier at the end. Although he had a rather distinctive face, he didn't seem to do much.
So if Baldy's case became the catalyst for Hydra's exposure, then Baldy should thank Tony, at least he has earned a place in history books in later generations compared to the original comics.
Baldy's death was more valuable than his entire life.
Tony stood in the center of the laboratory, with the "AIM" project's data files laid out in front of him.
"You told me before that you had results from the analysis of the data obtained from the last AIM site?" Tony asked.
"Yes, sir, your idea of investigating through the base's power supply and drainage pipes is very insightful," Jarvis said. "Following your instructions, I discovered rare isotopic markers in the coolant pipes of the AIM base."
Tony's eyes lit up: "Can we track it?"
"Yes, sir, this isotope is only mined in a few specific areas. Therefore, I analyzed global trading records..."
As Jarvis spoke, a map was zoomed in on Tony. Several striking red lines appeared on the map, then converged and focused on a specific red dot.
Tony: "Skip the process and give me the result. Where did the tracking for the shipment go?"
"Yes, sir, it's a company called 'Nordic Deepsea Mining'."
Tony took a sip of his specially formulated nutritional drink: "Shall we hack into their system and see?"
"I expected you to make this request," Jarvis said. "After hacking into their system, I discovered an anomalous facility."
The location was also marked on the map.
Tony: "Get our satellites working, I need live feeds."
Jarvis: "Yes, sir."
Even in the original movies, Iron Man possessed incredibly vast resources.
Technically, he felt that building a reactor by hand in the cave was easier than building Lego for others, and his armor was updated and upgraded faster than the release of a new iPhone.
Needless to say, his financial power is unparalleled. When others say "I'm very rich," it's an imperative sentence; when Tony says "I'm very rich," it's a declarative sentence. Building the Avengers headquarters is as easy for him as renting a shared office space. He sets off over forty suits of armor in one night like fireworks, and it looks to him like flipping a coin.
Sufficient financial power, world-leading technological capabilities, and the connections of an arms tycoon can often make you feel like the whole world is giving you the green light.
Soon, the satellite images were transmitted to the laboratory, and another AIM base was presented to Tony.
But even Tony was shocked when he saw what he saw.
He frowned and zoomed in on the image, then retrieved the data, confirming that he hadn't misread it.
Then, somewhat dazed, he said, "Jarvis, did you see what I saw?"
Jarvis: "I think...yes, sir."
Tony stared wide-eyed, and it took him a full half minute to manage to squeeze out his first sentence.
"Have those guys at AIM gone mad from research?!"
