Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 14, Part 2: Conceptualization
Tony could tell that as soon as he said that, the entire project team looked like they were about to pop champagne in celebration.
The supervisor immediately showered him with gratitude, showering him with compliments and expressing his loyalty, saying he would do anything to ensure Mr. Stark's success.
But Tony wasn't interested in any of this, and he didn't even seem to care much about the manager. He waved his hand to interrupt him, then said, "I haven't finished yet. You might not have fully understood what I meant. Let me think..."
Tony carefully considered his words before saying, "First, starting today, the virtual reality holographic projection project will be included in the 'New Frontier' plan, effective immediately."
The manager, who had just been quite excited, now felt suffocated and even doubted whether he had heard correctly.
New Area Plan!
He knew about the plan. It was a plan that Mr. Stark personally launched last month. All projects included in the plan would receive key attention from the group and Mr. Stark personally, and the resources and investment they would receive would be incomparable to what they could currently do. It would be a golden opportunity for everyone in their project team, and it might even be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
How could anyone not be excited?
"Secondly, from now on, a new independent business unit will be established, directly upgraded from your original project teams. I might also transfer some other top talents... but we'll talk about that later. The business unit will report directly to the CEO—that is, me—understand?"
"Understood! Understood!"
The supervisor nodded repeatedly. Everyone else on the project team was also beaming with joy, as if they had been struck by lightning, finding it hard to believe that such a life-changing opportunity had suddenly fallen into their laps.
"Of course, we will increase investment significantly, but this will not be without cost. To secure funding, I need to see results, and I need them immediately in the short term. Also..."
Tony gestured to Quentin Beck, who had been standing next to him.
"I need to speak with your engineer, privately."
"..."
Half an hour later, after having some in-depth discussions with Quentin Baker about technical issues, Tony left the department quite satisfied.
Quentin doesn't seem to have shown any supervillain traits yet. In fact, based on today's conversation, he even seems to admire Tony quite a bit, and he is indeed a genius in the field of holography—not bad even in Tony's eyes.
He discussed the "second-view" technology used in the film with Quentin Baker. Unsurprisingly, although Quentin Baker has this concept and has achieved some results, it is still far from the level of playing large-scale virtual reality films like in "Far From Home".
However, Tony also understands that although the "dual-structure" technology is not as mature as it is in the later stages, it is already possible to create holographic illusions of small targets at this stage, and the difficulty is not high.
Although it's not nearly as amazing as it was in later movies, Tony felt it was still a technology with considerable practical value, and one that had already been developed and could be put into use immediately.
Putting aside other considerations, Tony could easily mount a small drone equipped with this technology on his armor. Using this holographic camouflage, the drone could be easily projected to resemble the armor, creating a convincing illusion that the enemy would mistake it for his own.
The effect would undoubtedly be even better if combined with the stealth technology he is currently developing—using stealth technology to make the main body of the armor invisible, releasing drones to create clones using holographic technology, and the main body can easily approach an unsuspecting opponent and deliver a fatal blow.
Just thinking about it is awesome.
As Tony left the building, his chubby driver and bodyguard, Happy, was already waiting outside. Seeing his boss come out, Happy expertly opened the car door for him, and after Tony entered, he got into the driver's seat himself.
The front and back seats of the chauffeur-driven car were soundproofed, so Tony could confidently discuss his business in the back seat without worrying about being overheard by the driver.
If he wants to talk to Happy, including giving instructions such as stopping or changing the destination, he can do so simply by using the communication button on the back seat.
Tony got into the back seat, and the car started moving. He had also incorporated the idea of "equipping it with holographic drones" into the Mark VI armor he was currently designing.
After thinking for a moment, he then said to Jarvis, "By the way, Jarvis, when you get back later, remember to remind me to keep a close eye on this Quentin Baker. He's definitely a talent; I need his skills now, but I'm not entirely comfortable with him."
Although this person seems normal at the moment and is respectful enough to me, he is, after all, a super villain in the original timeline, so we still can't let our guard down.
Although Tony currently has the technology to use, he is already considering arranging for 24/7 surveillance of this person in the future.
Every phone call Quentin Baker makes, every email he sends, his browser, the people he interacts with...
In fact, Tony already had this item on his to-do list.
Design a dedicated AI, similar to Jarvis, but with a much clearer role—to monitor and listen.
He included all individuals, companies, and organizations that he judged might become villains in the future but were currently unable to deal with, in his monitoring scope to ensure that any slight sign of them becoming supervillains was nipped in the bud.
Not entirely legal? Perhaps.
But at least this will allow him to sleep a little more peacefully.
After all, he didn't want to give some developing supervillains room to grow—like often in the original Marvel comics.
"Yes, sir," Jarvis said jokingly, "you always have a good eye for people."
Tony remained noncommittal.
Rather than saying he has a good eye for people, it's more accurate to say he's read the script.
This is his advantage, but it is also his nightmare.
He suddenly remembered how confident and self-assured Tony was during this period in the original movie. Because at that time, Tony had only recently developed the Iron Man suit and believed himself to be the most powerful fighter on the planet, even often boasting that he had "achieved world peace all by himself."
But Tony thinks that if the Iron Man in the original movie knew what the future would hold, he would definitely be unable to sleep either.
Whenever he thinks of this, he can't help but immerse himself in the laboratory, working on technology and building armor.
Strength. Only greater strength, more advanced technology, and tougher armor can give him even a little sense of security.
"Alright, there are still a few days until the Monaco Grand Prix, let's hurry up."
Tony leaned back into the leather seat in the back and closed his eyes, pretending to doze off.
"Let's go back and equip the Mark 6 with a holographic drone first."
