Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 15 The Old Blind Man
"How is it?" Renn asked anxiously.
"The structure is more complex than expected." Seth frowned, looking at the readings in his hand. "It should be a locked rune array inside."
"If we force a blast, it will immediately trigger the backup circuit. Although it will also cause a power outage, it is estimated to last less than two minutes."
"That's definitely not enough," Ryan shook his head. "The assault team needs at least five minutes of cover at the designated attack location."
"I know." Seth pointed to the ventilation vent on the side of the cabinet. "There's an opportunity here. Pour in the corrosive liquid and let it slowly seep in; it should be able to melt the magic crystal inside."
"But there seem to be sensors installed here; an intrusion of a foreign object will trigger an alarm. And the corrosive liquid will take at least ten minutes to seep into the area where the magic crystal is located."
"So we need to create a shielding barrier." Seth drew a circle on the blueprint. "Install it here to cut off the power supply to the sensor unit."
"Can we really get the materials we need? We only have two days left," Ryan asked anxiously.
"Don't worry. There are plenty of worms in this sturdy fortress." Seth sneered. "Give them enough magic stones, and they won't care if you blow up their rooms with these contraband items."
The two whispered for a while, finalized the specific sabotage plan and retreat route, then carefully cleaned up the traces they left behind before turning and leaving.
Claire didn't emerge from behind the pipe until their footsteps had completely disappeared.
"If we set a trap here..."
He reached out and touched the cold metal cabinet door, as if he could see the beautiful fish spirit spine beckoning to him.
However, he also needs to make some preparations.
Although he didn't think the murloc resistance behind Seth and Raine could really threaten a base with a formal wizard in charge, it was always better to be prepared.
The question is, where can I buy what I need?
"Moths?"
The image of a red-haired youth flashed into Claire's mind.
……
……
The next morning.
Claire was awakened by a slight noise. He didn't turn over, knowing it was the two brothers.
Despite management giving all employees a half-day off, these two still left early.
He ignored them and closed his eyes again after the sound of their footsteps faded away.
Since his transmigration, he hasn't enjoyed a good late sleep in for a very long time.
Claire slept until the sun was high in the sky before she was finally awakened by a knock on the door.
Rod was outside the door.
He rubbed his bird's nest-like red hair, yawned, and looked like he had indulged in excessive sexual activity.
"Good morning, Claire..." the red-haired youth said in a hoarse voice. "You left too early last night. Those two sisters have been talking about you for ages."
"Next time for sure," Claire replied casually. "By the way, Rhodes, do you remember that old blind man you told me about before?"
"Old blind man? The medicine I used last night was from him, and it worked really well!" Rod picked up his water glass and took a big gulp. "What? You want some too?"
"No, I want to sell something. Something really valuable."
Rhodes paused, looking at Claire suspiciously: "What good stuff could you possibly have? Didn't we agree to be broke together?"
"I never said anything like that." Claire rolled her eyes. "I'll give you ten percent if it sells. Lead the way."
"Hey, no need, no need!" Rod waved his hand. "We're brothers, I'll take you there right now."
To Claire's surprise, Rhodes didn't take her to some dark basement, but instead randomly found an empty small conference room and sat down inside.
"Is it really that blatant?" Claire couldn't help but ask.
"Don't worry, they'll be here soon." The red-haired youth smiled mysteriously.
After about half an hour, the locked conference room door was pushed open, and an elderly man in a black robe walked in.
The old blind man lived up to his name; his eyes were covered by a layer of white film, making him look somewhat eerie.
"The old blind man doesn't rely on his eyes to appraise things; he never makes a mistake," Rod explained.
The old man in black robes gave an ugly smile and raised a thumbs up at Claire.
"Alright, you two can chat anytime. Don't forget to buy me a drink if it works out." Rod tossed his hair. "My darlings are waiting for me!"
The red-haired youth closed the door and left with a flourish.
"You don't mind smoking, do you?" The old blind man sat down and took out a pipe.
Claire nodded.
He had been observing the other person ever since they entered the room.
To his surprise, the old blind man did not emit any energy fluctuations and looked just like an ordinary person.
This guy either has some rare treasures or his strength far surpasses mine.
"Don't look at me like that, my old bones aren't worth many magic stones," the old blind man laughed. "What do you want to sell? Take it out quickly!"
Claire took out the Primal Tide Essence that she had fed to the panel.
"hiss……"
A surprised gasp came from the other side.
After a few seconds of silence, the old blind man reached out and took the pearl.
"The color is perfect, and the activity is as full as if it were just fished out." The old blind man held the pearl to his nose and smelled it carefully.
He raised his head, his empty eyes staring straight at Claire, as if he could still see her.
"Young man, you dare to steal company goods? Do you know what the maximum sentence is?"
"It wasn't stolen," Claire said. "I picked it myself; I didn't hand it over to the company."
"You picked them?" The old blind man scoffed, clearly not believing him.
He could tell that the young man in front of him was just a novice apprentice and could not possibly have the ability to conceal the energy fluctuations of the primordial tidal essence and evade the company's scrutiny.
However, he didn't care.
"Given the quality of this gem, it should fetch seventy magic stones outside," the old blind man said. "I'll take half the shipping fee, thirty-five magic stones."
"Fifty magic stones. I know you have access to the black market in Whale City. If you put the Gray Amber Workshop's name on it there, you can get at least a ten-magic-stone markup."
"You're quite the expert, buddy," the old blind man said, somewhat surprised. "Forty magic stones, that's the highest price. I won't accept anything more."
"Forty-eight dollars, an auspicious number." Claire's expression remained unchanged. "I'll buy some more things from you, so you've essentially done business with me twice."
"If things go well, we can continue to work together in the future."
"Forty-eight... does it have any auspicious meaning?" The old blind man was puzzled, but he was quickly drawn to the second half of Claire's sentence.
Although it's unknown how this young man stole the essence, such top-quality goods are not something you can just get anytime.
Judging from the other party's tone, this smuggling route will continue in the future.
If the quality of the finest pieces can be further improved, they could fetch double the price at an auction house if you're lucky.
"Alright, as you wish, forty-eight magic stones, deal." The old blind man grinned. "For the sake of our shared bright future, I'll take a loss this time. What do you want to buy?"
"I need five bottles each of Deep Sea Breath and Whale Power, a set of sensor-activated triggers, two kilograms of processed Exploding Fire Crystal Powder, and..."
The old blind man stopped making notes.
Underwater breathing and stamina boosters are normal; experienced collectors will use them when they feel like they're on a roll.
Triggers and fire crystal powder are understandable backup plans given the perilous underwater environment.
But this...
"Sea creature neurotoxin, what do you need that for?"
"Yesterday's sudden beast tide was very strange. I suspect it was a conspiracy by the sea creature resistance organization, so I made some preparations in advance."
fart.
The old blind man was now certain that the calm and composed young man before him must have discovered something in the nearby deep sea.
This is not surprising.
As a newly colonized world, and an ocean world with one of the highest exploration difficulties, it's not surprising that it attracts some whimsical treasure hunters.
The old blind man had only been at this base for less than two years when he encountered such a naive fool as the Three-Digit Number.
But the young man in front of us is different from those people; he might actually have found it!
The methods for smuggling out the original tidal essence most likely originated from this.
Something of this caliber is unlikely to be something a mere novice apprentice could handle...
The old blind man pondered for a while, then continued writing.
