Demigod Mage in America
Chapter 30 Mysterious Realm
Ryan sat on a high stool, his pen moving rapidly as he jotted down some of his insights from his experiments years ago.
Ryan finished writing a notebook and added a ritual on the last page.
Have you thought about the question I just mentioned?
Instead of killing him, Ryan offered him a condition that he almost couldn't refuse.
He'll be the owner of this bar from now on.
This means glory, but it also means endless trouble.
"I need some time to think about it." He hesitated for a moment, his gaze towards Renn filled with doubt and confusion.
He didn't understand why the other party didn't kill him, but instead made him the boss.
"Okay, tell me about the girl in the basement, and this so-called mysterious world you mentioned."
David sighed, hesitated for a few seconds, and then slowly said, "The girl down there is a homeless and pitiful person. She was kidnapped."
"Rob?" Renn was puzzled. People would rob homeless people?
"Yes, she used to be on the school gymnastics team. After a fall, she went to the hospital, but because her family didn't have enough money to pay for the surgery, she started taking painkillers on the doctor's advice, and then, you know, it's the same old story about drug abuse."
David sighed, his face full of regret.
"She was only 18 at the time, she still had a beautiful part of her youth left to enjoy, oh my god..."
After waiting for him to finish his reflection, Ryan finally asked, "And then?"
"After that, she was pushed out to serve customers, and then it was what you saw."
"Didn't she ever think about making money and leaving this place? Or asking her family for help?"
"Money? She has no money. Murphy gives her a fixed salary every month, and she chooses to use that money to buy more medicine. As for her parents, they both died in a car accident. They were a kind couple who donated their bodies before they died."
Renn fell silent. The darkness in his heart instantly conjured up countless sinister schemes in his mind, but his yearning for beauty prevented him from overthinking.
However, a thought involuntarily arose in my mind.
If—and he meant if—the world's order had rotted to this extent, he wouldn't mind creating a new one.
"I don't actually know much about the mystical world. Although I don't know if you, like me, awakened your abilities by accident, as you can see, this thing hasn't brought me any more convenience in my life. On the contrary, it has brought me a lot of trouble."
David pulled out a scalpel and sighed, "My ability is to ignore the surface and cut straight to the inside."
"Not bad ability," Renn praised.
This ability is practically a natural necromancy body; with this spell, one can accomplish many necromancy tasks.
"Ha, I'd rather not have this ability. When I worked at the hospital, my life was just average, but I had a happy family. But after Murphy found out, I'm more like a prisoner than someone who works for him."
"Didn't you try to fight back?" Renn asked, somewhat puzzled. If you can't win, you can always run away.
"Resist? He sent two monitors to live next to my wife, children, and parents' house, so that if I have any ideas, he'll show me their family portraits of death first."
"Then why didn't you call the police?"
"Call the police? Ha!" David sneered, saying nothing, but from his expression, it was easy for Ryan to see how distrustful he was of the police.
This is also something that Ryan doesn't quite understand. In his mind, it's common sense to call the police when you're in trouble, but these people don't even bother to call the police.
"Besides that, I only know one rumor that it is said that to bear the mystery, one needs a vessel, because the human body cannot withstand that kind of power."
Just like him, he needs a scalpel to unleash his power. Only by holding the scalpel can he exert strength beyond that of ordinary people; otherwise, he is just an ordinary person.
At this point, David's expression was very complicated, because Ryan's appearance completely shattered his impression.
He even suspected that Raine might be one of those people from a higher level, otherwise how could he be so ignorant yet so powerful?
Of course, he only dared to think these things in his heart and didn't dare to say them out loud.
"Vehicle? What does that mean?"
"Our bodies cannot directly contain extraordinary power, so there must be a vessel to bear the cost for us."
"What if we accommodate it directly?"
"Um, I've seen people explode like watermelons."
Ryan swirled his glass and didn't press the matter further, because he could tell that David's knowledge in this area wasn't very deep and was somewhat misleading.
"Murphy's individual strength isn't actually that great, but he has three very capable subordinates. If you're thinking of doing anything, you'd better be careful."
"By the way, just a friendly reminder, this area is all under Murphy's jurisdiction. He can tell if you're one of his cronies, so you'd better not try to cause him trouble through assassination or anything else."
"I'll be careful. Besides you, there are other extraordinary beings here—I mean, people from the mystical world?"
"Yes, Viper, one of Murphy's three henchmen, is here every night. He's both the manager and the guard."
"How strong is he?"
"I can't beat him."
Renn took a sip of red wine and looked at him with disdain: "Who can you beat?"
"I……"
"I'm asking how his strength compares to yours, be more specific."
"His strength?" David pondered for a moment, with a hint of doubt: "He should be able to handle more than a dozen of me, because he's very fast. My scalpel can't even touch him. But if I could touch his arm and cut the tendons... well, I'm not sure."
A dozen or so? Renn pondered for a moment. If this kind of strength was considered awesome, then wouldn't he be able to do whatever he wanted in East Harlem?
However, for safety's sake, he decided to play it safe.
Ryan left a mark on the surface of the notebook, a mark that would guide David to the agency to find him.
"Please think carefully about my suggestion. I'll be going now."
David picked up his notebook and watched Ryan's departing figure.
He pulled out his phone from behind him, which showed that it was recording.
If he sends the recording to Murphy, the other party will definitely give him some money, and maybe even let him go.
But should we send it?
At this moment, Raine did not actually leave, but instead cast an invisibility spell and watched from the side with Number One.
What will David choose?
He didn't use magic just now, but used ordinary methods, because he had a fleeting thought.
The idea of taking control of the order himself was driving him; there was too much chaos around here, and this was not the situation he wanted to see.
Goodness and evil can be gradually rectified, but chaos cannot.
So he figured he should take charge of the surrounding blocks and bring order back.
Under Ryan's observation, David ultimately chose not to expose him.
"It seems you've made your choice."
His figure gradually faded away, and no one noticed any of it.
David won't work, and neither will the hidden cameras in the bar.
