Reborn in America: I Have an Equipment Slot
Chapter 14 Motel
"Pay me money? Do you think my dignity can be bought with money?"
Irving snorted and flung the other man's hands away, preparing to dial 911.
Seeing that the other party was determined to pursue the matter of her discriminatory behavior, the Black female pharmacist clasped her hands together, her voice trembling uncontrollably: "Sir, please, if you don't pursue this, I'm willing to compensate you with a thousand dollars..."
$1000?!
Irving paused for a moment, then turned his head in surprise.
He originally thought the other party would compensate him tens or hundreds of dollars, but he didn't expect the black female pharmacist in front of him to ask for 1000 dollars!
Seeing Irving's stunned expression, the black female pharmacist's face lit up with joy, and she immediately saw a glimmer of hope. She quickly continued speaking:
"Sir, if you can forgive my offense now, I am willing to pay $1500, plus you can take these bandages and iodine for free."
"Please forgive me, sir, since I didn't mean it."
Irving frowned, pretended to hesitate for a moment, and finally nodded reluctantly.
To be honest, he originally wanted to ask for more, but when he saw that the black female pharmacist in front of him didn't seem very wealthy, he gave up the idea.
Being able to receive $1500 in compensation for each instance of discrimination had already extinguished Irving's anger. In fact, he was hoping for more of these kinds of incidents to teach these thoughtless people a lesson.
Seeing that Irving had agreed to a settlement, the Black female pharmacist breathed a sigh of relief.
Although she spent a whopping $1500 to resolve this issue, it was nothing compared to her job.
As a Black person, especially one who has received a higher education, she knows better than anyone that Black people are at the very bottom of the spectrum of racial discrimination.
If this Asian youth were to call the police today, the arriving patrol officers would certainly handle the matter extremely fairly and seriously once they see that she is Black.
But if she were white, everything would be different.
She's encountered this situation far too many times.
The female pharmacist sighed and handed Irving a personal check for $1500, signed in her own name, with a look of frustration on her face.
She had no choice. If she were white, she definitely wouldn't have paid any attention to the other person, because even if she had called 911, the patrol officer would most likely not have sided with the other person.
But unfortunately, he is Black, and if he doesn't deal with it quickly, the consequences will only be worse when the police arrive.
"A check? You don't have money in your checking account, do you?" Owen took the check and examined it carefully, feeling a little unsure.
"Don't worry, sir. I work at a pharmacy. If I were to issue a false check, that would be fraud, a crime," the Black female pharmacist explained nervously, wiping away her sweat.
Seeing that Irving was still frowning, his gaze constantly scanning the check in front of him, clearly showing distrust, the Black female pharmacist shrugged helplessly:
"Sir, if you really don't trust me, give me the check and I'll exchange it for cash for you. The pharmacy is doing quite well today."
Irving was naturally happy to do so and immediately returned the check to the Black female pharmacist.
Ten minutes later, Irving walked out of the pharmacy humming a little tune.
His cash assets also reached their peak, amounting to $2252!
With money in hand, Irving felt much more confident and no longer had the insecurity he felt when he first arrived in Miami.
After sitting on the steps and quickly bandaging his injured right hand, Irving began to think about his goals and plans for the future.
He now has a huge sum of over two thousand US dollars on him, and the most important thing is to open a bank account.
Besides, now that I have money, I definitely need to find a permanent place to live; I can't keep living with Tina forever.
After a moment's thought, Irving took out his phone, opened a social media app, and clicked on James's profile picture.
Kyrie: Bro, do you know where I can find a cheap and safe house in Miami?
James: ?
Irving: I want to find a permanent place to live so that it will be easier for me to contact local gangs and get the money that the Diamond King Club owes you back faster.
James: Bro, you're so reliable! Let me think... Oh right, there are a few motels in the Winwood arts district that are pretty cheap, around $350 a week. I can send you the addresses if you need them.
Irving immediately replied: Send me the address, thanks buddy!
Within three seconds, James sent over a Google Maps location and replied casually: No problem, bro.
Includes an OK gesture.
I must say, once you get to know these foreigners, they're all very easy to talk to and have no ulterior motives.
It was completely different from what he remembered.
Irving stood up and used his phone to navigate to the motel's address.
Seeing that it only takes twenty minutes to drive to the destination, but more than an hour to walk there, Owen's lips twitched.
He glanced at the other routes and saw that even by taking the intercity rail, it would take more than forty minutes to reach his destination. Irving's face instantly darkened.
"No wonder people say that in America, you can leave anything behind except your car..."
Irving shook his head helplessly, making up his mind.
To make travel easier, I need to find a way to earn more money during this period so I can buy a car.
An hour later.
At 3 p.m., Irving arrived at the motel recommended by James.
Unlike the motels Irving remembered, this motel called "Carl's Father" had two floors, but only 10 rooms in total.
Moreover, these 10 rooms did not appear to be fully occupied.
Irving entered the hotel and found the lobby empty. He couldn't help but clear his throat and call out, "Excuse me, is anyone here?"
"They're here!"
A rough shout rang out, and a bald, white-bearded old man rushed down from the second floor.
"Hey, Asian kid, listen up! I don't need anything you're trying to sell here!"
Tony's face darkened when he saw an Asian youth wearing a white t-shirt and beach shorts standing at the door.
"Uh, to be honest, I'm here to stay."
Seeing that the other party had misunderstood, Irving quickly tried to explain.
"Oh, sorry, kid, I misunderstood you. Please forgive me."
Tony scratched his head awkwardly and quickly explained, "Several Chinese restaurants have recently opened in the Winwood Arts District. They're not only handing out flyers everywhere, but also giving out all sorts of coupons. It's really a headache."
Tony walked to the counter, smiled, and then asked, "Kid, I have two rooms left: a twin room for $102 a night and a standard room for $93 a night. Which one do you want?"
"So expensive?!"
Upon hearing the price, Irving was stunned. Wait, didn't James say this hotel was only $350 a week?!
