The last day of February, a Sunday.

The day before, Chen Bainian had originally planned to decline Xiao Yezi's invitation to have dinner at her house, but Jiang Yiting glanced at him from behind, and he swallowed back the words he was about to say.

Well, at least I don't have to cook tonight.

He picked up the prepared fruit gift box and went to knock on the door of 1202.

"Here it comes—"

The sound of slippers clattering came from behind the door.

As soon as the door opened, Jiang Yiting stood there, one hand still holding an eyeliner pencil, the eyeliner on her other eye flying all the way to her temple.

Chen Bainian couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Teacher Jiang, are you... trying out battle-damaged makeup?"

"It's all your fault for knocking!" Jiang Yiting immediately shifted the blame, trying to cover up the fact that she was clumsy. "I was halfway through drawing when my hand slipped and this happened."

"It's just going to Xiao Yezi's house for dinner, why make such a big deal out of it?" Chen Bainian looked at her makeup, which was clearly the work of a novice, but didn't call her out on it directly.

"I have a live stream tonight, so I thought I'd start drawing now. I was afraid I wouldn't have time if I came back after dinner." As she spoke, she glanced at the fruit basket in his hand. "Oh, you even brought a gift. Teacher Chen is quite thoughtful."

She stepped aside to let him in: "Come in and sit for a while. Wait two minutes while I remove this graffiti."

"Well, you can't exactly go out for a free meal empty-handed." Chen Bainian followed him into the living room and casually added, "Actually, you look pretty even without makeup."

"Thank you for the compliment, Teacher Chen!" Jiang Yiting forced a smile, clearly not taking it seriously.

Men are visual creatures. If they really think she's beautiful at first glance, would they call her "Brother Lou"?

As she spoke, she rubbed her unfinished eyeliner with her fingertip as she walked toward the restroom.

A voice drifted out from inside, mixed with the sound of water: "Teacher Chen, can I have your fruit on the side? I'll pay you back whatever it costs."

"Teacher Jiang, are you going to try and mooch off this too?" Chen Bainian teased, raising an eyebrow.

"I didn't have time to buy it," she said, peeking out of the bathroom, her phone screen lit up with a money transfer interface. "How much? I'll transfer it to you."

"Gift box 80, A 40."

A "ding" sounded, indicating a money transfer. Chen Bainian looked down and said, "You transferred too much, 200?"

"This month's food allowance," Jiang Yiting said, wiping her hands as she walked out. "I promised to give it to you; I can't just eat your food for free."

"Okay." Chen Bainian smiled and did not refuse.

"Let's go." She dried her hands, put on her trench coat, and headed for the door.

"Teacher Jiang," Chen Bainian followed behind, casually mentioning, "You always wear hoodies, isn't it a bit difficult to match them with makeup?"

For some reason, those words stung her a little.

Jiang Yiting paused, glancing at him sideways: "It's better than some people with stubble acting like 'uncle,' isn't it?"

Chen Bainian touched the stubble sprouting on his chin and chuckled, "Fine, I guess I can't change this look."

He changed the subject, his tone becoming more serious and curious: "But seriously, hoodies are comfortable, but if you want to change your style, they can definitely look good too."

"Oh, Mr. Chen, you're being so sweet-talking today?" Jiang Yiting stopped at the door, turned around, crossed her arms, and looked him up and down. "Unfortunately, I'm a very honest person. I won't eat the pie in the sky if it can't be promised, and I won't try on clothes I'm not used to wearing."

She paused, then suddenly raised her chin, looking directly into his eyes:

"Or... has Teacher Chen finally realized that I'm actually a girl?"

Chen Bainian paused for a moment, then a knowing yet helpless smile appeared in his eyes.

The question was tricky and barbed, yet it also seemed to subtly open a crack in the wall.

He could tell it wasn't all a joke.

He pondered several things, but his face remained gentle, only his smile deepened.

"Teacher Jiang," he began, his voice tinged with amusement and sincerity, "then you've wronged me."

He paused deliberately, as if thinking carefully, before slowly speaking:

"The first time I met you in person, you zipped over on your skateboard, looking so cool and efficient."

"Later, I watched you play games. You were so good, so serious, and you spoke so frankly. I truly admire you for calling you 'Brother Lou,' it's not because I'm blind."

He took half a step forward, getting closer to her, and his gaze fell on the faint trace of dirt that she hadn't wiped away from the corner of her eye.

The voice unconsciously softened, as if whispering:

"As for the fact that you're a girl..."

He smiled, then added with a hint of helplessness, "I might be a little slow on the uptake, but it's not like I'm only realizing it now."

He looked directly into her eyes with a frank expression: "I just think that whether you're wearing a hoodie, wearing makeup, or asking me questions like this... it's all very 'Jiang Yiting,' it's all very good."

"So," he softened his tone, as if coaxing a small animal that was about to bristle, "Teacher Jiang, can we go now? If we keep talking, Xiao Yezi's food will get cold."

He reached out and pretended to close the door, gesturing for her:

"As for the fact that you're a girl... I'll be more careful in the future, okay?"

Jiang Yiting did not respond immediately.

She stood there with her arms crossed, staring at him with her eyes blinking.

Chen Bonian said that he was very serious when he said, "They are all very similar to Jiang Yiting, they are all very good." His eyes were also very sincere.

Like a gentle breeze, it just happened to blow open a half-closed door in her heart, a door she herself rarely pushed open.

That feigned anger and the barbed probing suddenly seemed a little untenable.

She looked away, lowered her gaze, and unconsciously rubbed the doormat with her toes.

My ear tips seemed a little hot, but luckily the high ponytail that was blowing down covered them.

"Glib talker." Her muttering was barely louder than a mosquito's buzz, and the initial bluster of hers quietly subsided.

He said he remembered, remembered the first time he saw her on a skateboard, remembered the way she played video games.

He said "Brother Lou" was convinced, not blind.

These words... surprisingly, don't sound offensive.

There was even a tiny bit of... enjoyment in it.

The vague, inexplicable knot in my heart seemed to have been gently smoothed out by these few words.

It turns out he wasn't really "blind"; he just saw something else, something she herself didn't even care about, but which he remembered.

As for his final words, "I'll be more careful in the future," they carried a sense of helpless indulgence, more like a... promise?

This made her even more unsure how to respond.

She cleared her throat, grabbed the skateboard leaning against the door, and as if she had put on "Brother Lou's" battle armor again, she stepped out the door first: "Let's go! After dinner, I'll take Xiao Yezi to play on the skateboard for a while."

She took a few steps, then paused almost imperceptibly. Without turning around, her voice drifted back on the corridor breeze: "...Just be more careful next time. And..."

She quickly added, speaking so fast it was as if she was afraid of being caught up, "The beard... I shave it occasionally, so I don't really look like an uncle."

After saying that, she walked towards the elevator with her signature, slightly quick steps.

But his back view, under the corridor lights, seemed to lack some of the bold and decisive "brotherly" air he usually exuded.

The tips of her ears, which were turning slightly red, were cleverly concealed by her high ponytail, which she tossed with feigned nonchalance.

Chen Bainian followed behind, watching her back, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously curved upwards before closing the door.
