Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold

Chapter 8: The clichéd plot is unfolding.

Thanks for the invitation. Regardless of whether I am human or demon, this is my first day working or helping out in [Tiyua].

"You're in good shape, young man. Any plans to work here long-term... oh dear, I forgot."

As they were talking, one of the men from the chamber of commerce slapped his forehead, his voice filled with regret:

"You've forgotten that you're a warrior in the Elf Mage's party."

Carlos put down the last bag of sand he was carrying on his shoulder and said with a smile:

"It's alright, Uncle Seibert. We'll be staying here for a while, and I'm sure Lady Celie will be very grateful for the fact that we can stay here for free."

Cybert, the nominal owner of the Chamber of Commerce, is in fact most likely the real owner as well. Carlos was approached by him as soon as he arrived to help.

"You're too kind."

Cybert was at a loss with the modest Carlos, who seemed completely unaware of the meaning behind the name Celie, which troubled him as he wanted to do them a favor.

In fact, as a trading city, Tiyua had a large number of people coming and going, and because it was close to the ancient forest where Seria lived, people like Sebert, who had many sources of information, naturally had an impression of Seria's face.

Whether it was the magical storm that people living in nearby villages happened to see, or her calm departure after destroying the demons, Celie's appearance had long been a topic of conversation and passed down by word of mouth.

"There's one more thing." Carlos suddenly leaned closer to Cybert and whispered in his ear, "Actually, I'm a mage, it just so happens that I'm a little too strong."

"..."

Cybert was speechless, but more than that, he was at a loss for words.

He began to wonder how someone with Carlos's personality could end up in the same team as Celie, one with a lively personality and the other with a serious demeanor.

"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Carlos straightened up, putting some distance between himself and Cybert, and looked around.

"there is none left."

Seibert shook his head. The remaining matters were things that Carlos couldn't easily get involved in. He hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke:

"Actually, due to the recent activity of the demon race in the surrounding area, the trade routes near [Tiyua] have been severely affected."

Upon hearing about matters concerning his own kind, Carlos showed no sign of wavering; he feigned confusion.

"Why are you suddenly bringing this up? I really want to help, but I doubt either Lady Celie or I could change this situation on our own, could we?"

It might be possible to just defend the city, but protecting the trade routes from being disrupted is far too difficult.

"Actually, that's not what I wanted to say." Sebert took a deep breath, then bowed deeply to Carlos. "I hope you can suggest to Lady Celia that we help protect [Tiua]! We are currently desperately short of experienced mages to fight off the demons. We just need to hold out until reinforcements from the capital arrive!"

So that explains the brief change in his expression when he learned I wanted to help.

Carlos did not answer immediately; he thought about it briefly first.

"I don't think this requires my advice," Carlos said slowly.

Given Celia's attitude towards the demons, he believed that if the demons dared to invade this place, Celia could wipe them all out without leaving a single one alive.

"Really?" Seibert raised his head, but his body remained in a bowing position.

Carlos felt as if this scene had happened to him not long ago...

"Although I'm not lying, my estimate is only until before I leave this place, because I don't know how long Lady Celie plans to stay here."

Upon hearing this, Seibert knew that the safety of Tiyua was assured.

I've heard that elves have a completely different concept of time than humans, and even if they're just staying temporarily, they'll probably stay here for a year or two.

"Thank you so much!" He excitedly grasped Carlos's right hand with both hands and shook it up and down repeatedly.

"I didn't do anything."

Seeing Cybert's excited face, Carlos awkwardly turned his head away.

It's similar to the village I lived in before. Are all the people in this world this enthusiastic?

Carlos was very skeptical about the extent of Celia's role in it.

After leaving, Carlos strolled through the streets, where there were all sorts of vendors selling food, souvenirs, and clothes.

We've actually arrived at a human town.

There simply aren't this many vendors in small villages.

Carlos walked around, looking at the sparkling gems, the brightly colored fruits, the obviously fresh meat, and all sorts of clothes...

Because he had no money, he didn't buy anything.

After a brief period of excitement, Carlos felt somewhat lost, wondering what he should do next.

Let's go back.

He walked towards the hotel.

"Ah, don't go to such a high place, come down quickly, come down quickly!"

On the way back, Carlos saw a little boy mischievously climb up a big tree by the roadside, then jump from the tree to the roof of a house by the roadside, while the boy's mother shouted anxiously from below.

"No, the view up there is better," the boy laughed, hands on his hips as he looked around as if the whole place was his territory.

"Come down quickly, Brenner!" the mother cried anxiously, calling the boy's name.

The boy named Brenner seemed a little scared when his mother called him by his name. He first looked at the big tree he had come from and wanted to go back the way he came. But jumping from the branch to the roof and jumping from the roof back to the branch were two completely different things. He looked away and walked to the edge of the roof to look down.

Carlos watched as the boy's face gradually became more and more bewildered.

The mother below seemed to realize the boy's predicament and began to ask for help from those around her:

"Someone help me! My child is trapped up there!"

"I'll do it."

Now that he had seen it, there was no reason to ignore it. Carlos lightly pushed off the ground with both feet and, using the reaction force, easily jumped onto the roof.

He landed without making a sound, not because Carlos had perfect control over his strength, but because he used a little [flight magic] to correct his landing.

If Celie herself were not present, any other mage would simply assume that he had used some kind of magic to reduce the sound of his fall.

Yes, Carlos is such a boring guy that he would use [flight magic] for something as unnecessary as landing silently.

He saw the boy in front of him looking quite surprised, and before the boy could speak, Carlos reached out and hugged him, then jumped off the roof.

Once they landed, they could no longer use the [Flight Magic], so the ground where Carlos's feet touched the ground made a moderate sound.

"Thanks……"

The mother below had just begun to ask for help and hadn't even come to her senses when her child was already standing in front of her again.

"You're welcome. I'm just a melee mage passing by," Carlos said, reciting the lines he had prepared beforehand.

The boy and his mother were stunned by his words.

"That's so...so cool!" After a brief silence, stars seemed to appear in the boy's eyes.

In the distance, this was the scene that Vlame, who was lying on the city wall, and Celie, who had been dragged along by her disciple, saw.
