Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 7 I will take responsibility for killing him
Five days after Volamere became Serie's disciple.
Carlos and his party finally arrived at the northern trading city of Tiyua.
With the coachman's assurance and Seria's identity as an elven mage, their journey into the city was unimpeded.
"We've finally arrived." Carlos stretched as he got off the carriage.
Seeing his behavior, Celia looked strange, but didn't say anything.
On her way there, at Vlamé's request, she finally decided to teach him about magic in advance.
Carlos, meanwhile, was forced to eavesdrop.
Since neither Celia nor Vlamé commented on it, he eventually joined in and even asked a question.
"You just said magic is a world of imagination, but imagination alone can't do it, can it?"
In Carlos's understanding, being able to imagine is a necessary condition for the formation of magic, but not a sufficient condition.
"You're right." Celia nodded first, then continued, "But you're not allowed to say such nonsense again."
Seeing her unfriendly expression, Carlos shut his mouth.
Fortunately, Vlame's magical talent was indeed quite good. Just listening to the questions she occasionally asked Celie, Carlos felt he had benefited a lot.
In terms of magical knowledge, he knew no one better than her, and he would call Vlamé the strongest!
Of course, Carlos was unaware of the situation of the others.
Upon arriving in Tiyua, the coachman arranged accommodations for them. Hearing that a great mage had arrived, the people of the merchant guild expressed their welcome.
"An elven mage, what a rare sight indeed."
"Welcome, welcome. Make yourself at home here."
"If you have any difficulties, please tell us. Everyone will help."
Thanks to Celie's light, Carlos and Vlamé were also able to stay here for free.
"Magicians are really popular," Carlos remarked.
After a long and tiring journey, the three of them had lunch on the first floor of the hotel.
"Because mages are quite rare, and now, due to the war with the demons, the mortality rate is also very high," Vlame said, as if showing off his knowledge.
This was the answer she received after asking the hotel staff.
Carlos was somewhat surprised that she would respond to him.
"What, is there something wrong with what I said?" Vlame glared at him.
"Well, my future common sense will depend on you, Lord Vlame!" Carlos nodded vigorously in a rather exaggerated manner.
Fulamei blushed at his enthusiastic praise and turned her face away shyly.
"Knock knock—"
Celia tapped the table with the back of her finger.
Carlos looked at her, then immediately said:
"Of course, Lord Vlame's achievements are also inseparable from Lady Celia's guidance!"
Now anyone can see that he's talking nonsense.
After all, Vlamé is not even a beginner yet.
Carlos saw that Vlamé had put on a stern face towards him again.
"I have to go help out later; I can't just accept everyone's kindness for nothing." As Vlame ate the hot food the shop owner served, her stern face immediately melted.
"I'll go help too." Carlos secretly observed Celia's expression.
She was wearing a very kind expression.
"Go ahead, go ahead."
Seria is now eating food that is completely incomparable to bread. Carlos doesn't quite understand what the elves' sense of taste is like. She has probably already eaten such delicious food before, yet she can still chew on bread every day. If it were him, this would be an unimaginable life.
"Remember not to reveal that you can use that magic," Celia casually advised.
Carlos knew what she meant.
[Flying Magic]
It is magic that all demons are born with, but it is unimaginable for humans and elves. Even if Carlos wanted to teach Seria how to use it, he could not do so.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Carlos rolled up his sleeves, showing off his impressive biceps. "Actually, I'm a soldier."
Neither Celia nor Volamey looked at him.
Carlos reluctantly lowered his sleeves and left the hotel; he had already finished eating.
"Master, is he really a demon?"
After he left, Vlame couldn't help but ask in a low voice.
During these few days of travel, besides learning about magic, the most important thing was to learn related common sense.
Celia said that although demons have a similar appearance to humans, they are actually two completely different kinds of beings. They have no emotions and respect strength above all else, so don't think you can get along with them peacefully.
Carlos was listening at the time.
But if she hadn't constantly reminded him that he was a demon, Vlame might have even imagined him as the older brother next door.
Now that Carlos is gone, she finally has the opportunity to ask the question that concerns her most.
"Volatmeg".
After Celia finished the last bit of steak on her plate, she wiped her mouth and said:
"This is the first task I'm going to give you: in the intervals between learning magic, observe what kind of existence he is and understand the reasons behind it."
"Huh?" Vlame didn't understand.
"He has secrets, and his behavior is very different from that of ordinary demons. These are things you need to investigate," Celia explained to her only disciple.
Vlame blinked, puzzled:
"Can't Master do this?"
"Me?" Celia laughed, as if she found the question amusing. "Would you open your heart to someone who could kill you with a flick of their wrist?"
Vlame thought about it, and indeed, if he were facing such a being, he would probably think, "I'd rather die than tell you!"
"I think I understand." She nodded, but was still a little confused. "Then what should I do? And does he really understand his own situation?"
After gaining a basic understanding of magic over this period of time, Vlame now knew just how outrageous Carlos's words and actions had been.
He shamelessly claimed that he would teach his master to use [Flying Magic], and then learned [Curse Return Magic] in less than 10 minutes.
Vlame couldn't help but admire Carlos's naivety and lack of common sense, for he had done something so illogical right in front of his master.
It's a miracle that he's still alive.
"These are things you need to consider; I can't help you with that," Celia shook her head.
In fact, she had already done some things, including deliberately letting Vlamé and Carlos be alone together.
Seria already had a vague suspicion in her mind, but she needed Vlame's help to confirm it.
"What if everything he's done so far has been a facade?" Vlame asked, though he knew the chances were slim.
She saw Celia smile after she said those words.
"Then I'll take responsibility for killing him."
