Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 56 Delicious Desserts
"If there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know. We'll be resting here for about another week."
Inside the city of Frisch, Herdo bid farewell to his group and expressed his desire to further strengthen their ties.
Vlame did not specifically refuse, but simply said, "I will definitely do so if I have the chance."
This wasn't an excuse she used to refuse; it was her true feeling.
Afterwards, they would have another journey back to the northern capital, where they might encounter Herdo's caravan again.
That's what Vlame was thinking, but she didn't know if Herdo had received her message.
In short, Frisch has arrived.
The villages and cities they had passed through before did not have such strict vetting procedures as Frisch now, giving the impression of returning to the northern border region.
"I have a feeling that monster activity is rampant here." Sylvia said, putting her hands behind her back and leading the way. They were going to replenish their supplies here.
"After all, it's a fortress city responsible for transit. If it were a very safe place, it wouldn't be called a fortress." In Carlos's magical perception, the number of monsters around this city was significantly higher than in other areas.
"If there are no demons, only monsters, the pressure of the battle will be much less," Vlame casually added, then said, "Alright, I'll go book a few rooms at the inn first, then you can just come over."
"Is Master still staying home as usual?" Carlos asked Celia, whose face always wore the same indifferent expression.
"There's nothing interesting here, and I have a feeling something really troublesome is about to happen," Celia said abruptly. "Don't drag me into this, and then you can do whatever you want with me."
"Ms. Frilian, will you become like your master in the future?" Sylvia asked curiously after Celia left.
"I won't be like that old woman," Frillian said in a low voice. "Remember not to tell her that I secretly call her an old woman..."
"Of course not, we're on the same side."
"Yes, we're on the same side!"
The two hit it off immediately and chuckled together.
"Let's find a local caravan later. Traveling with a caravan is much faster than walking, and it'll be more lively too." Carlos didn't join their conversation and instead got down to business.
"Mmm." Sylvia snapped out of her trance of being in cahoots with Frilian. "But we still need to buy some good food first."
"Remember not to eat too much, or you'll gain weight," Carlos warned.
"I don't believe it! I usually only eat bread on the street, how could I gain weight?!" Sylvia said smugly. "I'm going to treat myself!"
"Hooray for dessert!" Frillie chimed in from the side. The gloomy atmosphere she had when she first left the village was completely gone, and she was now truly enjoying the journey.
"That's true." Carlos felt that he had been a bit too obsessive before. What's wrong with eating dessert occasionally?
"Eat as much as you want, it's on me." He immediately changed his mind.
"No, no, no, I can't let you treat me every time." Sylvia disagreed this time. She looked at Frilian, "How about we do some odd jobs in the meantime, and then use the money we earn to buy desserts?"
"Didn't we just say we'd go buy some good food first?" Frillie asked, puzzled, her mouth practically watering.
Sylvie thought she was right.
As a result, Carlos once again generously donated money.
However, this time was different from before. Frilian and Sylvia made an agreement with him that they would make up for this part of his expenses by doing odd jobs.
"Let's forget about it." Carlos didn't really want Sylvia to suffer. "Just let Frilian go to work."
"We'll share the good times and the bad, I would never abandon my junior sister!" Sylvia said.
No wonder, so she was acting as if she were Frillie's senior...
Carlos could totally understand.
He made no attempt to stop her, and then Sylvie dragged her into a dessert shop recommended by a passerby.
"Wow, so expensive!" Sylvia exclaimed slightly when she saw the menu, but still ordered the most popular strawberry ice cream.
"Me too!" Frilian ordered the same one.
"When did she become like this?" Carlos glanced at Frillie, who was practically jumping up and down, excitedly waiting for her dessert, and whispered to Sylvia.
Every time he compared the silly little sprite he had initially imagined with the lively and energetic one in front of him, he found it hard to believe.
"It was probably not long ago." Sylvia glanced at Frillie, "But it's alright. We've been seeing and encountering things we've never seen or experienced before, so it's understandable that Ms. Frillie is excited."
"Are you sure she didn't imitate you in some way?"
"Hmm...maybe a little? But it's really okay." Sylvia steered the conversation back on track. "Let's not talk about that, you haven't ordered yet."
"Just do the same as you guys," Carlos replied casually.
"No way!" Sylvia refused him firmly. "Ms. Frillie, forget it. If you order the same thing as us, then we won't be able to enjoy any other delicious treats this time. If you really want strawberry ice cream, you can just eat mine from now on."
Carlos was speechless; what he said was indeed true.
"Then... I'll have a pudding." Carlos pondered the desserts on the menu, then realized something was amiss. "Speaking of which, if I'm ordering for myself, can't I just order one of everything?"
"Order one of everything?!" Hearing this, Frillie became even more excited.
The boss, who was about to take the order, also had his eyes light up.
"Can we finish all that?" Sylvia asked worriedly, then suddenly realized something and looked at Carlos in shock. "You don't expect me to work here indefinitely to pay off my debts, do you?"
"I already said I ordered it for myself," Carlos said, half-laughing, half-crying. "As for the problem of not being able to finish it, aren't there Vlame and the others?"
I believe Celia would be happy to deal with the extra desserts.
If that doesn't solve the problem, Carlos actually has a secret weapon up his sleeve. Now that he no longer needs to hide his magic, Carlos would be happy to show it off to the others if given the chance.
Before Sylvia could agree, he had already paid the full amount to the boss himself.
"Really..." Sylvia gave him a pretty glare, feeling both angry and sweet as she sat down in her seat.
She was angry because of Carlos's extravagant spending habits, but sweet because the money he spent was going to her.
"I think I've become a bad woman..." she muttered to herself after sitting down.
"Really? Bad woman it is then." Carlos smiled casually.
Would a goddess bestow special protection upon a wicked woman?
Or is the goddess actually a bad woman?
He was lost in thought about these meaningless and unverifiable things.
Soon after, the desserts they ordered were brought out one by one by the waiters.
Frillie, adhering to the spirit of not wasting anything, takes a small bite of each dish as it is served.
Just one bite, no more.
"Hmm, this is good."
"This is pretty great too!"
"Wait, what's this?"
Frillie brought a pudding she had just tasted to herself, then excitedly called over the waiter and asked what the dessert was called.
"Oh, it's called Mercury Pudding." Frillie memorized the name the waiter told her. "I've decided, this will be my favorite dessert from now on!"
"There's still so much left that we haven't eaten?" Sylvia was quite surprised.
Frillie was very confident. "Hmph, because this is my gut feeling. Nothing else suits my taste better!"
"Really? Then I'll have a bite to try." Sylvia said, reaching for the Mercury pudding in Frilian's hand.
"No!" Frilian moved Mercury Pudding to a location away from Sylvia.
Sylvia's outstretched hand froze in mid-air. She hesitated before asking, "Food possessiveness?"
"Food possessiveness?" Frillie tilted her head, pondering the meaning of the word for a moment, then nodded confidently. "That's right!"
"Then let's have another Mercury pudding." Carlos didn't hesitate and called the waiter over directly.
Instead of fighting over what's left, why not just order another one?
"I'll share half with you." Upon hearing this, Frilian immediately took the Mercury Pudding back.
"Why did you suddenly change your mind?" Sylvia had actually lost interest in the dessert, but she still asked curiously.
"Because I want the new one," Frillie revealed her little plan.
"I wouldn't fight you for it," Sylvia laughed. "I'm not that petty."
Inside the dessert shop, Frillie's eyes widened.
"I see, that's how it's done..." She nodded, then pushed the Mercury pudding in front of Sylvia. "This one's for you!"
"Really? Then I'll start eating."
"don't want!"
Seeing that Sylvia looked like she was really going to eat the pudding, Frillie immediately stopped her.
"Why, why aren't you offering it to me anymore?" Frillie asked, puzzled. This was completely different from what she had imagined.
"Accepting other people's kindness is actually a virtue."
Sylvieka didn't mind Frilian's behavior, and said this instead.
Upon hearing this, Frillie looked thoughtfully at the pudding she had taken back again. Just then, a new serving of Mercury pudding was brought over by the waiter.
"Mmm, delicious!"
Very decisively, Frilian gave up thinking.
