Apocalypse: The Primordial Pearl Recognizes Its Master, Starting with Infinite Space
Chapter 28 Practical Application; Training the Women
Lin Chen led this well-equipped but still somewhat inexperienced team, clearing away the sporadic zombies as they cautiously advanced deeper into the teaching area.
The once tree-lined path is now only marked by the sticky sound of footsteps on a mixture of blood and fallen leaves; on the empty playground, several mutilated zombies drag their feet on the track, their throats rumbling with low growls.
Upon reaching the central square in front of the main teaching building, Lin Chen suddenly raised his hand, signaling to stop.
Nine o'clock in the morning, which should be the peak time for students to flock to the teaching building.
At this moment, the building has become a den of zombies—behind the broken glass doors are staggering black shadows, at any moment a rotting face might peek out from the corner of the stairs, and even behind some slightly ajar doors, murky eyes stare straight out.
"Hold on for a bit," Lin Chen said in a low voice. "Those with ranged abilities, use them first to conserve ammunition and stamina; only fire when your abilities are exhausted or ineffective. Maintain formation and don't panic. These Tier 1 zombies are slow and have limited attack methods; they're not that scary."
As soon as he finished speaking, he waved his hand, and several huge standard shipping containers fell down with a thud, stacking them precisely.
In just a few minutes, a simple steel fortress, about ten meters long and over three meters high, was erected in the center of the square.
Then, he deftly set up several heavy-duty folding ladders and shouted to the still somewhat dazed girls, "Quick! Go up one by one!"
"Brother Lin, this... is too exaggerated!" The twins Jiang Yingxue and Jiang Yingyue exclaimed almost in unison, their eyes filled with a mixture of shock and admiration, and they rushed towards the ladder first.
Lin Chen stayed behind to cover the rear. Seeing the commotion attracting the horde of zombies pouring out of the teaching building at an increasingly faster pace, he snorted coldly and with a slight thought—a wrecked car, which had been salvaged from who-knows-where, crashed between the fortress and the horde of zombies, temporarily slowing the advance of the front-line zombies.
Once all the girls had safely climbed onto the platform on top of the container, Lin Chen used a spatial teleportation technique to appear and then casually stored the ladder away in his spatial storage.
More and more zombies gathered below, their bluish-black arms scratching futilely at the cold box walls, producing a teeth-grinding scraping sound. Lin Chen pointed at them, giving a live demonstration: "Look at their eyes, they're all murky black—that's a typical characteristic of Tier 1. They have almost no intelligence, they can't climb, and they don't use tools."
"What about the second stage?" Jiang Yingyue asked, trying to aim at the swaying head below.
"Second tier is grayish-white, third tier is light blue, fourth tier is dark yellow, and fifth tier is eerie green." Lin Chen spoke steadily, "When you reach the sixth tier, your eyes turn blood red. At that point, you are no longer an ordinary zombie, but are called a 'Zombie King.' The Zombie King has rudimentary intelligence and can command hordes of zombies in a simple way; the seventh tier, the 'Zombie Emperor,' has purple eyes, and its intelligence is close to or even surpasses that of ordinary people, making it extremely dangerous."
He paused, glancing at the girls' expressions, some surprised, some thoughtful: "Of course, that's a story for later. Now, let's deal with these people in front of us."
"Brother Lin, are there any zombies above level eight?" Li Ya had just used her supernatural beam to accurately blast a zombie that was trying to leap up, put down her slightly warm hand, and turned to ask.
Lin Chen shook his head, his eyes filled with confusion: "I don't know either." He recalled some unpleasant things from his past life.
He quickly suppressed his ethereal thoughts, his eyes regaining their sharpness. "Don't think too far ahead now. Clearing out the zombies, collecting crystal cores, and improving yourself—that's the key to survival!"
"Su Yun!" he called out, pointing to a relatively dense horde of corpses to the left front of the platform. "Aim there, use your fire control ability to cover the maximum area!"
Su Yun took a deep breath and focused her mind.
She stretched out her hands, palms facing forward, and a flash of fire seemed to appear in her eyes—without warning, a patch of orange-red flames erupted from the feet and around the dozen or so zombies gathered to her left!
The intense heat instantly ignited the zombies, filling the air with the stench of burning flesh. However, the zombies felt no pain, and those that were set ablaze continued to surge forward, even igniting their own kind behind them, creating a bizarre scene of "walking zombies rushing towards the fire."
The flames spread through the horde of corpses, actually increasing their killing efficiency. However, the scene and smell made many girls on the platform turn pale.
"Yingxue," Lin Chen continued calling out names, looking at Jiang Yingxue, who possessed the "Light of Life" auxiliary ability, "Pay attention to everyone's condition. If anyone shows signs of fatigue or injury, use your ability to restore them immediately."
"Xiaoya, Xiaomin!" He turned to Li Ya and Zhou Xiaomin, "There's a gap to the right front; the horde of zombies is pouring in from there. Use your ranged abilities to smash the densest area and stop them!"
Li Ya nodded, her pupils contracting slightly. A condensed, pure white beam of light shot out again, ploughing through the scorched earth in the horde of zombies, piercing through the heads of several zombies.
With a sharp cry, Zhou Xiaomin sent a fist-sized, blazing fireball flying from her hand. It arced through the air and landed in the horde of zombies, exploding with a "boom." The shockwave and debris knocked several zombies to the ground.
The stench of blood mixed with the burning smell permeated the air.
The real battle began amidst chaos and screams.
The destructive power of superpowers far exceeds that of ordinary firearms—a surging wave of fire can instantly engulf a dozen zombies, turning them into charcoal; a precise sonic shock can shatter large pieces of rotten flesh and bones.
Unfortunately, the girls are currently only level one ability users with limited spiritual power. After each of them exerts their full strength two or three times, they will feel a sense of exhaustion and depletion of spiritual power. They can only pick up their guns again and continue this bloody harvest with the help of bullets.
While accurately firing at any zombies that tried to climb or crash into the containers, Lin Chen methodically moved more ammunition boxes and spare assault rifles out of the space.
They even quickly set up a large military-grade waterproof tent, completely covering the top of the entire container platform, providing both rain protection and better concealment.
This makeshift steel fortress appeared even more impregnable amidst the blood rain.
The girls' marksmanship is improving at a visible rate.
Li Ya and Su Yun learned the fastest thanks to their better mental qualities and physical coordination. Their shooting rhythm was stable and their accuracy steadily improved. The twin sisters Jiang Yingxue and Jiang Yingyue showed amazing tacit understanding. One focused on suppressing the front and the other was vigilant on the flanks, cooperating seamlessly.
Thanks to Lin Chen's prior installation of efficient silencers on each gun, the low, muffled gunshots, like muffled thunder, did not disturb the horde of corpses in the distant buildings, effectively controlling the scale of the battle.
After a while of fighting, the horde of corpses thinned out.
Li Ya changed to a new magazine and suddenly shouted, "Brother Lin, the zombies down there are almost all gone, we don't have enough to fight!"
Lin Chen hummed in agreement, as if he had expected it.
He reached into the storage space and pulled out a large, self-powered outdoor professional speaker. "Wait here."
Pressing the switch, a familiar, almost addictive melody suddenly blared, echoing with astonishing volume through the deathly silent campus: "You are my little apple, I can never love you enough..."
