Chapter 107 The Sensation Caused by the Unicorn
Chapter 108 The Sensation Caused by the Unicorn (Fourth Update)
Newt examined the unicorn's wound, which was on its neck and quite deep, as if it had been bitten by something.
The edges are very uneven and show signs of tearing.
"What bit you?" Hagrid asked.
"It should be a wolf," Newt said uncertainly, "but it doesn't quite feel like it—it's strange, I've never seen bite marks like these before—"
"What could it be?" Harry couldn't help but ask.
Newt didn't answer, but instead took a small bottle out of his pocket and sprinkled the powder inside onto the unicorn's wound.
The unicorn trembled, but did not struggle.
The medicine powder quickly stopped the bleeding, and Newt then took out a bandage and wrapped it around its neck, one loop after another.
"Hagrid," he said, "we need to take it back; it's too weak to walk."
Hagrid nodded quickly.
"Then I'll do it!"
He walked over and gently lifted the unicorn onto his shoulder.
The unicorn trembled on his shoulder but did not struggle.
"Let's go," Newt said. "Let's go back."
Back at Hagrid's cabin, Newt gave the unicorn another thorough check-up.
"The wound isn't deep," he said. "It didn't hit any vital organs. It will recover in a few days."
Hagrid breathed a sigh of relief.
"Very good!"
The Gryffindor trio exchanged a glance and breathed a sigh of relief.
Zhang Qiu asked, "Can it eat now?"
Newt nodded: "Sure, just get some fresh grass and water."
Hagrid quickly got up and went to prepare grass and water.
Newt sat beside the unicorn, gently stroking its mane.
The unicorn lay on the ground, its eyes half-closed, looking very weak, but its breathing was much more steady than before.
After a while, it opened its eyes and looked around.
Its gaze swept over Newt, over Hagrid's back, over the Gryffindor trio and over Cho Chang.
Then, it fell on Henry.
It looked at Henry, and its eyes suddenly became bright.
Henry looked at it, wondering what the unicorn was up to.
Then, to everyone's surprise, it struggled to its feet and walked towards Henry.
Hagrid was startled by the unicorn's behavior.
"What is it going to do?"
Newt didn't say anything; he just watched the scene quietly.
The unicorn walked up to Henry, lowered its head, gently nuzzled Henry's shoulder with its head, and then lay down beside him.
Henry was stunned; he hadn't expected the unicorn to be so friendly towards him.
He reached out and gently stroked its neck.
It feels wonderful, even better than the best blankets in Kensington Palace.
The unicorn let out a soft hiss and nudged his legs, as if it were being affectionate.
Hermione covered her mouth, staring at the scene in disbelief.
"Oh my god—" she whispered, "it likes His Highness."
Hagrid was stunned: "This—how is this possible? Unicorns are usually not allowed to be touched by others!"
"Unicorns are the purest creatures," Newt said slowly. "They can sense a person's heart, and if they are willing to approach a person, it means that person has a pure heart."
He looked at Henry.
"Your Highness, you are very special."
Henry didn't speak; he simply continued to stroke the unicorn.
The unicorn lay down beside him, rested its head on his leg, and closed its eyes.
It fell asleep.
For the next two days, the unicorn stayed by Henry's side.
In Hagrid's cabin, it lay by the fireplace, quietly staying there whenever Henry was around, its eyes half-closed, its snow-white mane gleaming softly in the firelight.
If Henry leaves, even just for a short while outside, it will immediately stand up, pace restlessly, and let out soft hissing.
"It only trusts you," Newt said.
Henry looked at the unicorn. It was resting its head on his lap, breathing steadily, like a large white cat.
"Why?" he asked, puzzled.
"Just like I said, you have a pure soul," Newt said with a smile. "Now I'm even more excited about that sanctuary you mentioned."
Henry didn't show any surprise or flattery; it was just a unicorn, nothing special.
However, he would still visit it every day, bringing it fresh grass, changing its water, and grooming its fur—he thought his mother, Diana, would definitely love the unicorn.
The grass was specially picked by Hagrid from the Forbidden Forest; he said it was the unicorn's favorite variety.
The water is drawn from a mountain spring; it is clear, cool, and sweet.
The unicorn grew increasingly friendly with Henry; every time he entered the cabin, it would stand up, greet him, and nuzzle his shoulder with its head.
Each time he left, it would let out a soft hiss, as if trying to keep him there.
Hagrid watched this scene with immense envy.
"I feed it, I take care of it, why isn't it affectionate towards me?"
Newt laughed: "Hagrid, you can't get close to unicorns just by taking good care of them. They have their own judgment."
Unicorns can sense people's hearts; they know who is pure, who is complex, who is trustworthy, and who is not.
Hagrid scratched his head.
"Does that mean I'm impure?"
Newt looked at him, a hint of gentleness flashing in his eyes.
“Of course, Hagrid. But yours is simply a love of magical creatures. While Prince Henry—” He looked at Henry, “is a different kind of love.”
The next day, something unexpected happened.
That morning, Henry went to the auditorium for breakfast as usual.
He had just sat down at the Slytherin table and picked up his pumpkin juice when he heard a commotion at the Great Hall entrance.
"What is that?"
"Oh my god! It's a unicorn!"
"How did a unicorn end up in the castle?"
Henry stopped moving.
He looked up and gazed at the entrance to the auditorium.
A snow-white figure was standing there.
It's that unicorn.
It stood at the entrance of the auditorium, its entire body white, gleaming softly in the candlelight.
It must be admitted that it is so beautiful that it makes you forget to breathe.
The entire auditorium fell silent for a moment, then erupted in gasps of surprise.
"It really is a unicorn!"
"How did it get in?"
"What is it going to do?"
The unicorn ignored the gasps and simply stood there, its gaze sweeping over the four long tables, over the dumbfounded students, and over the professors who had stood up.
Then it saw Henry.
It took a few steps and shuffled towards the Slytherin table.
The students quickly made way for it, afraid of blocking its path.
Some people stumbled backward, some stood frozen in place, and some covered their mouths, letting out a suppressed gasp.
The unicorn walked up to Henry, lowered its head, and gently nuzzled his shoulder with its head.
Then it lay down next to Henry, rested its head on his waist, and gently closed its eyes.
