Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 106 The Wounded Unicorn
Chapter 107 The Wounded Unicorn (Third Update)
Halfway through his tea, Hagrid suddenly remembered something.
"Oh, by the way," he said, "I noticed something amiss while patrolling the edge of the Forbidden Forest this morning."
Everyone looked at him, and Newt put down his teacup.
"What's wrong?"
"I found blood," Hagrid said. "It looks like unicorn blood; it's silvery."
Hermione's eyes widened: "A unicorn? It's injured?"
"Yes," Hagrid said, "it must be quite serious, otherwise he wouldn't have bled so much."
Newt frowned.
Unicorns are extremely sensitive creatures; they are pure and noble, but also very fragile.
Anything that can injure a unicorn must be extraordinary.
"How long ago was that?" he asked.
"This morning," Hagrid said, "about three or four hours ago."
Newt immediately stood up: "Take me to see."
Hagrid paused for a moment.
"Now?"
"Yes," Newt said. "If it's really an injury, we can't delay. If the wound gets infected, it will be a big problem."
Hagrid nodded quickly, "Okay! I'll take you there right away!"
The Gryffindor trio exchanged a glance and stood up simultaneously.
"Let's go too!" Harry said.
Hagrid looked at Newt.
Newt thought for a moment: "Okay. But you have to stay close and don't wander off."
The three men nodded vigorously and then looked at Henry.
"Your Highness, aren't you going?"
Henry remembered that the unicorn in the Forbidden Forest had been attacked by Voldemort, but it was afternoon and Professor Quirrell had classes, so he certainly wouldn't be in the Forbidden Forest.
It wouldn't hurt to go and take a look.
So he stood up and said, "I'll go take a look too."
Zhang Qiu stood up as well, wanting to see what was going on.
The deeper you go into the forbidden forest, the more lush the trees become. The tall trees block out the sun, and if it weren't for the fact that it is early spring, you would hardly see any sunlight.
Hagrid walked in front, holding Tooth's leash, with Newt following behind, observing their surroundings as they went.
Henry and Cho Chang walked in the middle, with the Gryffindor trio following closely behind.
Hermione's face was a little pale, not because she was scared, but because the eerie feeling made her uncomfortable; Ron kept looking around, as if he was ready to run away at any moment; Harry, on the other hand, was not afraid, his eyes were bright as he looked around.
"Hagrid," he asked, "what's in the Forbidden Forest?"
"Many," Hagrid said. "Centipedes, unicorns, and—"
He paused at this point.
"What else?" Harry pressed.
"It's nothing," Hagrid said. "Just stick close to me."
Newt suddenly spoke up: "Hagrid, has anything unusual happened in the Forbidden Forest lately?"
Hagrid thought for a moment, then shook his head and said, "Nothing unusual—it seems there isn't, it's just that unicorns haven't been showing up much lately. I used to see them all the time, but recently they've become quite rare."
Newt nodded without saying anything.
But deep down, he felt a vague unease.
Unicorns are social animals and rarely act alone.
If one is injured, the others should be nearby to protect it.
But Hagrid said he only saw bloodstains and not the unicorn itself.
So, what about the other unicorns?
Where did it go?
After walking for about twenty minutes, Hagrid stopped.
"This is it."
He pointed to an open space in front of him.
It was a small clearing in the woods, where sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting patches of light on the grass.
At the edge of the open space, there was a tree, and under the tree, there was something silvery-white.
It's blood, silvery blood.
In the dim forest, the silver bloodstains almost glowed.
Hermione covered her mouth, almost letting out a scream.
Newt walked over, squatted down, dipped his hand in the blood, and smelled it.
"It's unicorn blood," he said. "Fresh, about an hour ago."
Hagrid asked nervously, "Then where is it now?"
Newt didn't answer immediately. He stood up and looked around.
The bloodstains were heading in that direction—deeper into the Forbidden Forest.
"Let's keep going," he said.
They followed the trail of blood deeper into the forbidden forest.
The road became increasingly difficult to walk on, with tree branches lying haphazardly across the muddy ground, making it difficult to move.
But Newt walked quickly, as if he were used to this environment.
Henry followed behind him, his eyes scanning everything around him.
He noticed that it was too quiet around him.
There were no birdsong, no insect chirping, and even the wind had stopped.
It was as if something was so powerful that the entire Forbidden Forest dared not utter a sound.
"Mr. Scamander," he said softly.
Newt turned around.
"What's wrong?"
"It's too quiet," Henry said, looking around.
Newt paused for a moment and nodded slightly.
"I know."
He didn't say much, but he quickened his pace.
The bloodstains grew fresher and fresher. Eventually, the silvery blood had not completely congealed and shimmered in the dim forest like shattered moonlight.
Hagrid's face grew paler and paler, as if he were the one who was injured.
"It's right ahead," he said. "I can feel it."
"Stop it, everyone," Newt said.
Everyone stopped and looked at him.
Newt pulled his wand from his pocket and said without turning around, "I'll go first, you follow behind, keep your distance. If you see anything, don't make a sound."
Several people nodded.
They walked through a thicket of bushes, and suddenly the view opened up before them.
It was a much larger open space, much wider than the previous one.
In the center of the open space, an animal was curled up.
That was a unicorn.
It was pure white, gleaming softly in the moonlight. Its mane was long, like silver threads cascading to the ground. Its horns were beautiful, sparkling in the sunlight.
But it lay curled up on the ground, its body trembling, blood still seeping from the wound on its neck.
The blood was silvery, pooling on the ground like a spring formed from moonlight.
It's so beautiful, it's heartbreaking.
Hermione and Cho covered their mouths, tears streaming down their faces.
Harry stared blankly, unable to utter a single word.
Ron's legs were shaking. Hagrid tried to rush over, but Newt grabbed him.
"Don't move." Newt's voice was soft but serious. "It's scared right now. If you get too close, it will run away."
Hagrid was so anxious he kept wringing his hands.
"But it's injured! It needs help!"
Newt didn't answer. He simply crouched down, bringing himself to the same height as the unicorn.
Then, he began to make sounds.
It was a very soft, low sound, like the cry of some animal, or the whisper of the wind.
The unicorn's ears twitched.
It raised its head and looked at Newt.
Those eyes, large but somewhat dark, were filled with pain and fear.
Newt continued making that sound, and the unicorn stared at him, observing him for a long time.
Then, it lowered its head, a sign of relaxation.
Newt slowly stood up and walked towards it.
The unicorn did not move.
Newt walked over to it, squatted down, and gently stroked its neck.
"It's okay," he said softly, "we'll help you."
"
The unicorn let out a low hiss, like the whimper of a baby.
