Chapter 53 Bloody Battle
"Rush!"
With a roar from his comrade, Ye Fan gripped his pulse gun and charged out of the gap in the logistics and preparation bay with the others, leaping into the ravaged battlefield. The soil beneath his feet was mixed with blood and mech wreckage, making each step exceptionally heavy.
This was his first time truly engaging in a frontal battle. Even though he had repaired countless suits of armor and was familiar with all kinds of weapons, he had never faced a life-or-death struggle like this before.
The sounds of gunfire, metal clashing, and screams grew clearer, and the scorching air carrying the stench of blood rushed towards them. The battle scene before them was even more brutal than what they had seen from the breach—the Human Alliance soldiers were clashing with the mechs and power armor of the Keloyan race, and people were falling every second.
Ye Fan's heart pounded wildly, his palms were sweating, and his hand gripping the pulse gun trembled slightly. Even though he was wearing heavy armor, he couldn't hide the panic in his heart. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, and his mind raced through the pulse gun's operating techniques and the weaknesses of the Shelloan mechs he had seen during repairs.
Just then, a dark shadow suddenly pounced from the side. It was a Keloa humanoid who was not wearing any mecha and had a lithe figure. Its body was covered with yellowish-brown hard armor, its huge compound eyes flashed with ferocity, and its sharp claws were covered with corrosive slime, aiming straight for Ye Fan's neck.
Ye Fan's pupils contracted sharply, and he instinctively dodged to the side. His claws grazed the shoulder of the power armor, producing a screeching sound. A shallow dent was instantly corroded into the armor's surface, and a pungent odor assaulted his nostrils. (Actually, you couldn't smell anything at all, don't doubt the air filtration system, you bastard!)
Without a second thought, Ye Fan gripped the pulse gun, aimed it at the head of the Keloa race, and decisively pulled the trigger!
"laugh--!"
A scorching energy blast shot out, accurately striking the compound eye of the Shelloa race. Green fluid splattered instantly, and it let out a shrill scream, staggering back a few steps, wildly waving its claws, having lost the ability to attack accurately.
Without hesitation, Ye Fan took the opportunity to step forward and pulled the trigger again. Several energy bullets were fired in succession, all hitting its chest. The hard armor was pierced, and green blood gushed out. The Keloa human convulsed a few times and collapsed to the ground, completely lifeless.
Even after killing an enemy for the first time, Ye Fan's heart was still pounding and his stomach was churning, but he didn't have time to vomit—on the battlefield, there was no room for the slightest slackness; the slightest carelessness would mean certain death.
"Watch out behind you!" A comrade's warning came promptly, filled with urgent worry.
Ye Fan turned his head sharply and saw another small mech of the Shellloa race rushing towards him. The corrosive cannons on the mech's arm were fully charged, and a green corrosive beam shot straight at him.
He leaped into the air, tumbling awkwardly to the ground. In the instant he dodged the corrosive beam, it struck a boulder behind him, instantly corroding and dissolving it into a pool of green slime—a truly terrifying sight.
He quickly stood up, adjusted his posture, and aimed the pulse gun at the joints of the Shellloa mech—the weakest point in the armor and the location where he most often dealt with malfunctions during repairs.
With repeated pulls of the trigger, energy bullets were fired in rapid succession, accurately striking the mech's knee and elbow joints. The metal armor was pierced, exposing the exposed wiring, which emitted a crackling sound of electricity, and the mech's movements instantly became stiff.
"Now!" Ye Fan's eyes narrowed, and he quickly stepped forward. Taking advantage of the mecha's slowed movements, he pressed the pulse gun against the mecha's cockpit and pulled the trigger with all his might. The scorching energy bullets continued to spray, forcefully piercing through the cockpit. The Keloa race inside let out a scream and then fell completely silent.
"Well done!" A comrade who was not far away couldn't help but shout when he saw this scene. Then he was surrounded and attacked by two Keloya people and was caught in a fierce battle.
Just as Ye Fan was about to step forward to provide support, he noticed that the pulse gun in his hand suddenly emitted a buzzing sound, the gun body became slightly hot, and the energy output became intermittent—the continuous high-intensity firing, coupled with the impact of the corrosive beam, had caused a malfunction in the pulse gun's internal circuitry.
"Damn it!" Ye Fan cursed under his breath, quickly checking the pulse gun, only to find that the malfunction was quite serious and could not be repaired in a short time. At this moment, two Kelos had already surrounded him, one wearing power armor and the other wielding a giant machete, looking menacing.
He decisively discarded the malfunctioning pulse gun, quickly drew his spare bomb gun from his waist, aimed it at the approaching Keloan race, and pulled the trigger.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The explosive gun was more powerful than the pulse gun. Each bullet could blast a hole in the hard armor of the Keloan race, and green blood splattered. Two Keloan race members were forced to retreat, but they did not back down. Instead, they charged even more frantically.
Ye Fan continued firing, bullets raining down on the enemy. One Keloa was hit in the chest and fell to the ground with a thud, while another, with his agile movements, dodged most of the bullets and quickly closed in on him. His giant cleaver whistled through the air as it slashed fiercely toward his head.
Ye Fan dodged to the side, the machete grazing the armored helmet, the loud clang of metal striking metal making his ears ring and a tingling pain shooting through his neck. He seized the opportunity to raise his hand, pressing the explosive pistol against the enemy's abdomen, and pulled the trigger again—but only heard a hollow "click".
We're out of bullets!
Ye Fan's heart sank. Without thinking, he decisively discarded the bomb gun and quickly drew the alloy dagger from his leg with his right hand. The dagger was pitch black and the blade was extremely sharp, easily slicing through the hard armor of the Keloya race.
Seeing this, the Keloa race's eyes flashed with mockery. They once again swung their giant cleavers at Ye Fan, their movements fierce and each strike deadly.
Ye Fan moved nimbly, constantly dodging and avoiding the enemy's attacks, while carefully observing the opponent's movement patterns—the Keloa race was strong, but their movements were slightly slow, and there were obvious openings between their attacks.
This is an instinct he honed while surviving in the ruins, enabling him to quickly find the opponent's weaknesses even when facing a powerful foe.
Just as the Keloa race unleashed another slash, the old force dissipating before the new force could rise, Ye Fan seized the opening, took a sudden step forward, pressed his body close to the opponent, dodged the slash, and at the same time, plunged the alloy dagger in his hand into the Keloa race's chest—the weakest point in the armor, where the heart was located.
"Hiss—!" The Keloa human let out a shrill scream, its body convulsing violently. The giant cleaver in its hand crashed to the ground. It stretched out its claws, trying to grab Ye Fan, but it was powerless and could only watch helplessly as its life force continued to drain away.
Ye Fan gritted his teeth, exerted force with his wrist, and violently twisted the alloy dagger before pulling it out sharply. Green blood gushed out, splattering all over him, and the pungent stench made him almost vomit. (Who would call a knife over a meter long a dagger? It's only because you're wearing power armor that it's almost as tall as you.)
The Keloyan race collapsed to the ground with a thud, completely lifeless. Ye Fan staggered back a few steps, panting heavily. The close-quarters combat had almost exhausted all his strength. His shoulder was hit by the residual force of the cleaver, and a sharp pain shot through him. His armor was damaged, and the blood at the wound had already congealed.
He knew he was far from being a qualified soldier—lacking superb fighting skills, explosive power, and even maintaining composure required immense effort. But he did not back down. The battlefield waits for no one; only by fighting could he survive.
Just then, another Keloan mech charged towards him, its arms transforming into claws that lunged straight at his chest. It was faster and more powerful than the previous enemy.
Ye Fan had no time to rest. He gripped the alloy dagger tightly, his eyes hardening. He no longer panicked but charged towards the enemy, nimbly dodging the mech's claws and circling to the side of the mech—a place with dense wiring, a weakness he had memorized during his previous repairs.
The mech sensed his intention and suddenly turned around, its claws sweeping across. Ye Fan leaped up, dodging the attack, and at the same time, stabbed the mech's wiring interface with his alloy dagger. The blade pierced precisely, and the mech instantly emitted a crackling sound of electricity, its movements becoming sluggish.
However, he was unable to completely evade the attack. The other arm of the mech slammed into his back, sending Ye Fan flying. He crashed heavily to the ground, a mouthful of blood spilling from the corner of his mouth, staining the inside of his helmet. A tearing pain shot through his back, and the back of his power armor was severely deformed.
"Cough cough..." Ye Fan struggled to get up, blood constantly spilling from the corner of his mouth. His bones felt like they were about to fall apart, and every movement brought intense pain, but his eyes became more and more determined.
He couldn't fall. His sister was still waiting for him, and his comrades were still fighting alongside him. He had to survive and become stronger.
The mech charged at him again, its movements slow but still deadly. Ye Fan took a deep breath, enduring the excruciating pain, gripped the alloy dagger tightly, and charged forward once more. This time, he didn't dodge, but faced the mech's attack head-on. The moment the claws struck, he suddenly turned to the side, simultaneously plunging the alloy dagger deep into the gap in the mech's cockpit.
"Snap!"
The blade sliced through the cockpit armor and pierced the interior, causing the mech to instantly stop operating and crash to the ground. The Keloa race inside the cockpit was killed instantly.
Ye Fan collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. He was covered in wounds, and blood kept seeping from his wounds, mingling with the green sap on his body. He looked utterly wretched, yet a faint smile appeared on his face.
He could feel himself improving—from initially panicking and dodging to later actively seeking out weaknesses; from initially relying on firearms to later engaging in close combat. Every battle, every injury, made him more resilient and more skilled.
In the distance, the soldiers of the Human Alliance were still putting up a fierce resistance. Although they had suffered heavy casualties, not one of them retreated. In the starry sky, the sound of even more intense artillery fire could be faintly heard. Ye Fan knew that reinforcements should be arriving soon. If they held on a little longer, they would see hope.
Just then, three Keloyan races surrounded him at the same time. They were all soldiers wearing power armor, holding sharp weapons, and with fierce eyes. They clearly regarded him as an easy target.
Ye Fan struggled to his feet, gripping the alloy dagger tightly. Despite his injuries and exhaustion, he showed no fear. He bent slightly, assuming a defensive stance, his eyes fixed on the enemy before him, his mind racing to recall his previous combat experience and find a solution.
The first Keloa race launched an attack, its claws aimed straight at Ye Fan's chest. Ye Fan dodged to the side, simultaneously kicking the opponent's knee. The Keloa race staggered back a few steps, revealing an opening.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ye Fan stepped forward and plunged the alloy dagger in his hand into the other man's throat. Green blood gushed out, and the man instantly collapsed to the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the Keloyan race behind him launched a sneak attack, their sharp claws digging into his arm, tearing through his armor and causing blood to gush out instantly. The intense pain made him groan involuntarily.
Despite the excruciating pain, Ye Fan whirled around and thrust the alloy dagger in his hand backhand, striking the opponent precisely in the chest. The opponent let out a scream and slowly collapsed.
The last member of the Keloa race saw this and a hint of fear flashed in his eyes, but he still gritted his teeth and charged forward, slashing his weapon fiercely at Ye Fan.
Ye Fan was already exhausted and his movements became sluggish. He was unable to completely dodge the attack. The weapon grazed his thigh, and his armor was cleaved open with a large gash. A sharp pain shot through his thigh, and blood gushed out. He staggered back a few steps, almost unable to stand.
Upon seeing this, the Keloa race's eyes flashed with wild joy, and they stepped forward again, wanting to finish off Ye Fan completely.
Ye Fan gritted his teeth, used his last bit of strength, gripped the alloy dagger tightly, and the moment the opponent approached, he took a step forward and plunged the dagger into the opponent's heart. At the same time, he used all his strength to twist the dagger violently.
The Keloyan convulsed and collapsed to the ground. Ye Fan, having exhausted all his strength, also collapsed onto the corpse, panting heavily, his body covered in wounds, his consciousness gradually fading.
