Chapter 52 Battle Against the Falling Star
The ships of the Titan-class Third Destroyer Fleet, engulfed in flames and thick smoke, hurtled towards the surface of the planet of the Keloyan race like meteors. The sounds of tearing apart the hulls rose and fell, and broken wreckage continued to fall from the sky.
In the critical moment, the escape pod doors on the ship sprang open, and dozens of large escape pods shot out like arrows, spewing blue flames from their tails, flying towards safe areas across the planet, carrying the hope of survival.
The wristband terminal on Ye Fan's wrist suddenly lit up, and a holographic message was forcibly popped up. A cold, mechanical voice sounded simultaneously, reaching the ears of every surviving soldier: "This ship has initiated the second phase of operations. Terminals are synchronized. The locations of all comrades have been recorded, and their status is being updated in real time."
The moment the message disappeared, the destroyer exploded violently again, sending even more debris flying. The violent impact swept over them once more, and Ye Fan had no time to react before he was slammed against the bulkhead. His vision went black, and he passed out completely.
After an unknown amount of time, Ye Fan slowly regained consciousness. A wave of intense dizziness washed over him, and his ears were filled with a jumble of sounds—the groans of the wounded, the clanging of tools, and the distant sounds of gunfire, all intertwined and particularly jarring.
He laboriously turned his neck, peering through the helmet of his power armor at his surroundings. This was the logistics and preparation warehouse, but it was no longer as orderly as it used to be; it had become a mess.
The cabin was severely deformed, with exposed steel bars, broken mechanical parts, and broken wires scattered all over the ground. The air was filled with a strong smell of dust, blood, and fuel, making it difficult to breathe.
Many soldiers lay scattered around, most of them still unconscious. Some had their power armor severely damaged, and green alien blood mixed with human blood dripped down the gaps in the armor, leaving dark marks on the ground.
Ye Fan struggled to his feet, his legs still feeling weak. The power armor's energy core emitted a faint hum, and his holographic vision occasionally flashed with static, clearly also affected by the impact.
He shook his head, forcing himself to wake up, and his gaze swept across the preparation bay. He gradually noticed that many soldiers had woken up and were carrying out rescue and combat preparation work in an orderly manner.
Several medics were moving quickly among the wounded, skillfully bandaging their wounds and administering medication, gently comforting their distraught comrades. Meanwhile, some logistics soldiers were working around the damaged power armor, quickly repairing and replenishing its energy, preparing it for the soldiers who could fight.
Just then, an urgent shout came towards Ye Fan: "Ye Fan! Come help!"
Ye Fan looked in the direction of the sound and saw a logistics comrade wearing power armor not far away, holding a huge metal plate against his body with his muscles tense. The power armor's energy core was lit up with an orange-red warning light, indicating that it was obviously operating beyond its capacity.
Beneath the metal plate, a soldier's arm could be vaguely seen, and he was groaning weakly. The situation was extremely critical; if the metal plate was not moved quickly, the soldier would likely be crushed to death.
"Here they come!" Ye Fan didn't dare to delay and immediately started running towards his comrade, staggering as he stepped on the gravel. Every step made him feel dizzy, but he didn't dare to slow down at all.
Reaching the edge, he immediately bent down, grabbed the edge of the metal plate with both hands, and activated the power armor's energy, straining upwards: "Push! One, two, three!"
"Drink!" The comrade roared, exerting all his strength. The two men's power armor emitted a piercing hum at the same time, and the orange-red light became more and more dazzling. Finally, the huge metal plate was slowly lifted, revealing the soldier who was trapped underneath.
Two soldiers who were already waiting nearby immediately stepped forward and carefully pulled the crushed soldier out. They quickly checked his injuries—his leg was broken, he was covered in wounds, and he had already fallen into a coma with weak breathing.
"Get him there for emergency treatment!" Ye Fan shouted to the medics, then he and his comrade let go. The huge metal plate fell heavily, making the ground tremble slightly. Both of them breathed a sigh of relief, their backs already soaked with sweat.
"Thanks, Ye Fan!" His comrade patted him on the shoulder, his voice full of gratitude. "Without you, I wouldn't have been able to hold on at all, and this kid would have been finished."
"We're all comrades, it's only right." Ye Fan shook his head, his gaze inadvertently sweeping across the front of the maintenance bay, his pupils shrinking slightly—there was a huge gap there, dust flying up from the gap, and the battlefield outside could be vaguely seen.
He slowly walked to the gap, looked up, and the scene before him instantly came into view: a fierce battle was raging.
The mechs of the Human Alliance clashed violently with the mechs of the Shelloa race. The ear-piercing sound of metal scraping against metal echoed in all directions. The mechs' fists slammed into the enemy's armor, sending sparks flying. Many mechs were severely damaged, emitting black smoke, and crashed to the ground.
Human soldiers clad in power armor were scattered across the battlefield, their shoulder cannons continuously roaring, their blazing beams precisely striking the Keloan soldiers. Their pulse guns and explosive guns unleashed a furious barrage of bullets and energy blasts, creating a dense web of fire that swept towards the alien race.
The Keloan soldiers were not to be outdone. Their mechs were equipped with corrosive weapons, and each attack left deep corrosive marks on the human mechs and power armor. Green blood and human blood stained the ground red. On the battlefield, screams, explosions, and the clanging of metal intertwined to create a hellish scene.
"Hurry up and get ready, we'll be joining the battle soon!" His comrade's voice rang out behind him, interrupting Ye Fan's thoughts. He snapped out of his reverie and nodded emphatically—he had to get ready as quickly as possible, hold the position, and provide support for his comrades.
Ye Fan turned back to the maintenance bay and immediately got to work. He picked up his repair tools and quickly inspected the less damaged power armor, replacing broken parts and replenishing energy.
The comrades around them were also giving their all. No one retreated, no one complained. Even though they were covered in wounds and exhausted, their eyes were still full of determination—they wanted to survive, to hold this position, and to fight with all their might for the victory of mankind.
Meanwhile, on this star-studded battlefield of the yellow nebula, the Titan-class carrier commanded the center. Inside the bridge, a holographic battlefield map clearly displayed the battle damage on both sides, with dense red markers highlighting the ferocity of the battle.
General Su Lan stood before the map, her posture upright, her face cold and beautiful, her eyes sharp as knives, exuding a strong aura of majesty. Even in the face of heavy casualties, she remained calm and resolute.
"Report battle damage!" A communications soldier rushed forward, his voice urgent, handing over a damage report. "Three of our battlecruisers are out of combat capability, five destroyers are severely damaged, ten frigates have been destroyed, and our soldiers have suffered heavy casualties!"
Su Lan took the report, quickly glanced through it, her brows furrowing slightly, and asked in an icy tone, "Where are the other legions located now?"
"Currently, only the Fifth Legion has sent a message; the other legions are still on their way and are expected to arrive in more than three hours," the communications officer replied immediately.
"Pass on my order: the escort fleet must immediately surround the battlecruisers, protect those unable to fight, and evacuate them to a safe area for emergency repairs!" Su Lan tapped the control panel with her fingertips, issuing the order quickly, her tone leaving no room for doubt.
"Yes, sir!" the communications officer responded immediately, quickly relaying the instructions.
Su Lan's gaze returned to the holographic map, and she continued issuing orders: "Inquire with the engineering department about the progress of the stargate construction. Speed it up immediately; we need stargate support!"
"Also, notify the research department to retreat immediately. Don't charge forward like madmen! Hold the rear and focus on logistical support and collecting exotic samples!"
"Maintain formation across the entire fleet! Do not panic! The outer destroyer squadron, prepare to land on the outer planet of the Shellloa race to support ground operations and eliminate the remaining alien forces on the surface!"
"The destroyers in the core area, in coordination with the cruiser group, should concentrate their firepower and shoot down all those alien battlecruisers! We absolutely cannot let them break through our defenses!"
One command after another came from Su Lan's mouth, accurately controlling the rhythm of the battlefield. The soldiers on the bridge performed their duties and quickly relayed the orders. The entire fleet maintained an orderly combat state and did not retreat in the slightest, even though it suffered heavy losses.
Just then, the communications soldier suddenly spoke, his tone tinged with excitement: "Reporting, Commander! The Fifth Army Corps has sent a communication request. Should we connect?"
Upon hearing this, Su Lan's tense nerves relaxed slightly, and a glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes—the Fifth Legion had finally arrived, and with their support, the battle situation might be turned around.
"Connect!" she said without hesitation.
"yes!"
The communicator instantly lit up, and a hearty male voice, tinged with a roguish charm, boomed across the bridge: "Haha! Su Lan, long time no see! My ship is about to reach the designated coordinates, bringing you a surprise!"
On the screen appeared a man in a white military uniform, with a handsome face and a playful smile on his lips. He was Yao Guang, the commander of the Fifth Legion.
The Fifth Legion belongs to the Human Alliance Science Research Institute. Unlike other legions, their fleet configuration does not have Titan-class flagships, but it has two extremely powerful Sun Whale-class aircraft carriers. These two aircraft carriers carry the most powerful drone swarm in the entire Human Alliance.
These drone swarms, seemingly intended for battlefield extermination, are actually designed to more easily capture various alien species, bring them back to research institutes for physical experiments, and provide sample support for alien research.
In addition, the Fifth Legion was equipped with several Uranus Spear-class battlecruisers. These battlecruisers were primarily defensive, with armor thickness far exceeding that of ordinary battlecruisers. They could withstand heavy artillery fire from aliens and served as a solid barrier protecting the fleet.
"Yaoguang, don't try anything funny." Su Lan's tone remained indifferent, but she couldn't hide a hint of relaxation. "How's things going on your end? The construction progress of my star gate has reached forty percent and is still steadily increasing."
"We've had a smooth journey here, without encountering much resistance." Yao Guang smiled, her tone becoming more serious. "Our ship is 2 hours and 41 minutes away from the designated coordinates; we'll arrive soon."
"Your coordinate area has been cleared. There are no remaining alien forces. It's safe to jump here," Su Lan said to the screen, then turned to her adjutant beside her. "Send the detailed coordinates to Yao Guang."
"Yes, Commander!" The adjutant responded immediately, quickly operating the control panel to send the coordinates of an empty star field to the Fifth Legion.
After receiving the coordinates, Yao Guang's lips curled into a playful smile, his tone tinged with a mischievous glint: "Su Lan, I need a clean star field to store the 'gift' I'm sending you. Don't be scared."
Upon hearing this, a hint of helplessness flashed in Su Lan's eyes. Yao Guang was always like this, fond of playing tricks. She said in a flat tone, "Yao Guang, you still have this wicked sense of humor. I've sent you the coordinates. Get there as soon as possible; we're under a lot of pressure here."
"Don't worry, I'll be there on time!" Yao Guang waved her hand, her tone relaxed. "Once we get there, we'll make sure those aliens regret it, and we'll show you just how powerful my 'gift' really is!"
After speaking, the communication screen was instantly cut off. Yao Guang hung up the communication and began to command the Fifth Legion to quickly jump towards the designated coordinates. The Uranus Spear-class battlecruisers were in the lead, followed closely by two Sun Whale-class aircraft carriers. The battleship group and destroyer squadron were on the outside, with escort ships interspersed among them. The fleet formation was neat and imposing.
Inside the bridge, Su Lan looked at the dark communication screen, her brows slightly relaxed. The arrival of the Fifth Legion was undoubtedly a timely help. With their drone swarms and heavily armored battlecruisers, they had a better chance of holding their ground and defeating the Keloyan race fleet.
"Commander, the Fifth Legion has confirmed the coordinates and is in full-scale jump." The adjutant reported.
"Okay." Su Lan nodded, her gaze returning to the holographic battlefield map. Her tone was firm. "Notify the entire fleet to hold their ground. Hold on for another two hours or so, and reinforcements will arrive! We must defend the stargate construction area; we absolutely cannot allow the aliens to destroy it!"
"yes!"
The order was quickly transmitted to every human-armed ship. Upon learning that reinforcements were on their way, the soldiers' morale soared. Their previously weary expressions were instantly replaced by fighting spirit, and their artillery fire became even more intense as they launched a frenzied counterattack against the Keloan human fleet.
On the surface of the planet of the Shelloa race, Ye Fan had finished repairing the last set of power armor. He stood up, stretched his body, and the power armor's energy core returned to normal, and his holographic vision became clear again.
He walked to the gap in the preparation warehouse and looked out at the battlefield again. The soldiers of the Human Alliance were still putting up a fierce resistance. Although they suffered heavy casualties, not one of them retreated. Soldiers of the Keloa race kept pouring in, and the battle remained deadlocked.
"Ye Fan, are you ready? It's time for us to go!" His comrades, all dressed in power armor and armed, walked up to him with firm voices.
Ye Fan gripped the pulse gun tightly, his shoulder cannon fully charged, a resolute glint in his eyes. He turned to his comrades and nodded emphatically: "Ready!"
In the second phase of the battle, soldiers in all positions had to be rotated to maintain the integrity of the entire defensive perimeter, and it was at this time that Ye Fan's echelon had to be rotated.
