Redemption from the Abyss: The School Beauty Insists on Pulling Me Out of the Mire
Chapter 197 The Belated Trial
Xie Wang got out of the car, and Su Qinghe followed closely beside him. The two walked side by side toward the hospital lobby.
Wang Nan stood upright next to the automatic sensor door, with police equipment hanging from her waist.
Behind Wang Nan stood four young police officers.
When Wang Nan saw Xie Wang walking over, she immediately went up to him and patted him on the shoulder.
"He's in the hematology ward on the third floor. We've got him under our watchful eye. He can't escape."
Xie Wang nodded at Wang Nan.
"Thank you, Sister Nan," Xie Wang said, expressing his gratitude.
Wang Nan waved her hand, signaling everyone to go inside together.
"Let's go, your sister will back you up." Wang Nan led the way.
The group walked through the rather deserted outpatient hall and took the elevator to the hematology ward area on the third floor.
Three plainclothes police officers were already standing guard at the door of a ward with a sign that read "Intensive Care Unit." When they saw Wang Nan leading the team over, they immediately stood at attention and saluted.
Wang Nan waved for them to spread out a bit, leaving the front seat for Xie Wang.
Xie Wang stood outside the ward, looking into the ward through the small door with square glass.
Chen Jianping, wearing his old gray jacket, was sitting on a plastic stool in front of the hospital bed, his back hunched.
Lying on the hospital bed was the little girl wearing a bright yellow woolen hat. She was sleeping with her eyes closed, her pale face devoid of color.
Chen Jianping, his eyes red-rimmed, gently tucked the blanket around his daughter with his rough fingers, muttering something silently to himself.
Xie Wang looked at the scene, but the coldness in his eyes did not diminish at all.
A father who showed boundless tenderness to his daughter, ruthlessly smashed another mother's life twelve years ago for a profit of five million.
Xie Wang placed his hand on the metal doorknob, pressed down hard, and pushed open the door that had been a barrier to their grudges.
The sound of the door hinges turning was particularly jarring in the quiet ward, and Chen Jianping turned his head like a startled bird.
When Chen Jianping saw Xie Wang standing at the door, a look of shock flashed across his weathered face, which slowly turned into endless despair and panic.
He recognized Xie Wang's face, which bore a striking resemblance to Xie Wan's.
Chen Jianping stood there stunned for a good ten seconds, then tears welled up uncontrollably, running down his face mixed with snot.
He didn't try to run away; he just dragged his leg, which was limping from an old injury, and walked unsteadily toward the door.
Chen Jianping walked out of the ward and into the corridor. His legs went weak, and he knelt down directly in front of Xie Wang.
He was hunched over, his head almost touching the floor, uttering a hoarse and mournful cry.
"I know you've come to take my life today. I admit it. It's all my fault," Chen Jianping said, crying, his tears falling onto the white floor tiles.
He raised his head, looking at Xie Wang with pleading eyes, his cloudy eyes filled with fear.
"But I beg you, please don't involve my daughter. She's only seven years old, and she has a terminal illness." Chen Jianping's voice trembled uncontrollably.
"The million I asked for, not a single penny has been touched. It's all in the hospital's account. It was all to save her life." Chen Jianping slammed his head against the floor tiles, making a loud thud.
Xie Wang stood still, looking down at the murderer.
At that moment, Xie Wang's mind went blank, and he didn't care about the presence of the police around him.
Without saying a word, he grabbed Chen Jianping's faded coat collar with his left hand and slammed his right fist into the man's cheekbone with a sharp whistling sound.
Chen Jianping let out a muffled cry of pain and fell backward, his back slamming heavily against the corridor wall.
Xie Wang didn't pause at all; his eyes were filled with terrifying red blood vessels as he approached like an enraged beast.
The second punch landed hard on Chen Jianping's lip, and dark red blood instantly splattered down his chin, landing on the white tiles.
The third punch landed on his jawbone, the sound of bones dislocating echoing sharply in the quiet corridor.
Xie Wang's breathing was terribly heavy. He didn't know how much strength he was using; he was just mechanically swinging his already bleeding fist.
With each punch he landed, he was seeking justice for his desperate, weeping self from that rainy night twelve years ago, venting his pent-up emotions from that dark childhood spent in the mud.
When the junior police officers around saw Xie Wang suddenly make a move, they instinctively wanted to step forward to stop him, since the suspect had already been beaten into submission.
Wang Nan stretched out her arm and stood in front of the young police officers.
"Stop right there, no one is allowed to stop you."
Wang Nan lowered her voice and used an unyielding command to stop her subordinates.
Wang Nan looked at Xie Wang's blood-stained fist, a hint of pity flashing in her eyes.
After throwing those four punches, Xie Wang did not continue his attack. He stood there, his chest heaving violently with extreme rage.
His hands hung limply at his sides, his fingers still trembling uncontrollably, a mix of vengeful pleasure and sorrow surging wildly through his blood.
Su Qinghe walked over at this moment. She didn't look at Chen Jianping, who was wailing on the ground. Her eyes were only on Xie Wang, who was full of murderous intent.
She took out a pack of wet wipes from her coat pocket, pulled out one, and gently lifted Xie Wang's blood-stained right hand.
Su Qinghe wiped away the bloodstains from his knuckles little by little.
"It's not worth hurting your hand for such a scumbag." Su Qinghe's voice carried a hint of domineering protectiveness.
She threw the blood-stained tissue into the nearby trash can, then wrapped her hands around Xie Wang's cold, large hand.
Xie Wang looked at Su Qinghe's cool profile and felt the warmth from her palm. The violent emotions that were about to devour him finally subsided miraculously under her comfort.
Seeing that Xie Wang's emotions had stabilized, Wang Nan waved to his men behind him.
Two young policemen stepped forward, took out silver handcuffs, and neatly put them on Chen Jianping's wrists.
Chen Jianping did not resist; he let the police pull him up from the ground, but his eyes remained fixed on the direction of the ward door.
"Wait a moment."
Chen Jianping suddenly shouted in a hoarse voice. He turned to look at Xie Wang, his eyes filled with desperate pleading.
"My daughter's mother is dead. I've been arrested, and she'll starve to death alone in the hospital. Please help her."
Chen Jianping's voice carried a heartbreaking desolation.
Xie Wang frowned deeply as he looked at Chen Jianping's groveling and fawning manner.
He turned his gaze to the quiet ward, and through the glass, he could vaguely see the bright yellow woolen hat.
The chains of hatred unexpectedly knotted at that moment, dragging an innocent life into this vortex.
