Chapter 576 Finished and Back to Work
Old Zheng followed closely behind, quietly crouching down and asking in a low voice.
"Is this the place?"
Chang Kun nodded and pointed inside the factory: "It should be correct. Tell everyone to be careful."
The sensor indicated that seven or eight human traffickers were inside the factory, guarding various easily defensible and difficult-to-attack locations.
Old Zheng looked in the direction he was gesturing, but saw nothing. He didn't ask any questions and instead gestured to the police officers behind him.
The group crept silently forward, inching their way along the remaining wall.
The sound of voices could be faintly heard coming from inside the factory. It was impossible to make out what they were saying, but their tone was quite aggressive, as if they were arguing.
Old Zheng lay crouching behind a pile of broken bricks, peeked inside, then withdrew, his face changing color.
"Go back and call for backup, and bring your weapons," he whispered to the young policeman next to him.
"What kind of guy do you want?"
"Smoke bombs." Old Zheng stared in the direction of the factory. "There are guns inside, at least two rifles, and definitely pistols too. If we charge in head-on, we'll easily get injured or killed."
The young policeman's expression changed, and he crouched down and retreated, running away in a flash.
Chang Kun lay down next to Lao Zheng and peered through the crack in the wall.
Sensing was clearer than seeing; the human traffickers were positioned at several windows and doorways, each clutching something in their hands. One of them even had a rifle mounted, the muzzle pointed directly in their direction.
His palms were a little sweaty.
It's not that I'm worried about my own safety, but I'm afraid there might be abducted children inside. What if these traffickers, in desperation, use a child as a hostage...
He clenched his fist. If those human traffickers dared to touch the children, they would have no choice but to go to their deaths.
There were also Type 56 semi-automatic rifles loaded with bullets in the space; if one shot hit, those people would have no chance of survival.
Twenty minutes later, the young policeman returned with his men.
Four people, carrying two wooden boxes, crouched down and crept over.
"Yes, four have been transferred."
Old Zheng picked up one, weighed it in his hand, and gestured to the others.
"Throw the smoke grenades in, I'll lead the charge, you guys flank from both sides. Remember, prioritize saving lives, and try not to fire! If anyone hurts the child, I won't let them get away with it!"
All the police officers nodded in agreement.
Chang Kun lay still, his eyes fixed on the factory building.
Old Zheng wanted to say something, but after thinking about it, he swallowed it back.
"Three, two, one..."
Four smoke grenades simultaneously crashed into the factory building.
"Bang! Bang!"
The factory immediately erupted in chaos, billowing thick smoke that made it impossible for people to open their eyes.
These human traffickers never expected that the police would be so hasty and unethical, throwing smoke bombs before even engaging in a firefight.
The shouts and curses were muffled by the smoke and couldn't be heard clearly.
With a wave of his hand, Lao Zheng sent the police rushing in from different directions.
Chang Kun didn't move; he wanted to provide the final guarantee.
In the haze, the human traffickers were in complete chaos. Some rushed outwards, some retreated, and others were choked and knelt on the ground coughing.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Lao Zheng and his men rushed in and had already subdued two people.
But the man with the machine gun didn't panic.
He crouched in the corner, the muzzle of his gun darting around, searching for a target with disgust.
Chang Kun stared at him, his finger on the trigger.
Suddenly, the person moved.
Instead of rushing outwards, they retreated, behind which were the kidnapped children.
Chang Kun's fingers tightened.
Sensing the movement, the man raised his gun, aiming it at the corner.
"Bang!"
It wasn't Chang Kun who fired the shot.
It was Old Zheng. Sometime later, he emerged from the smoke and smashed the man's head with the butt of his rifle.
Chang Kun slowly loosened his fingers.
Inside the factory, all sorts of chaotic noises stopped.
The thick fog slowly dissipated, revealing what lay inside.
Three or four human traffickers were pinned to the ground, while the rest squatted in a row with their heads in their hands.
Old Zheng stood in the corner, looking down at the children and gently rubbing their heads.
Upon seeing this, Chang Kun grinned.
He travels back and forth all this way for these poor children.
Old Zheng was also very happy, shouting loudly and directing the police to take the human traffickers back.
Seeing Chang Kun grinning foolishly to the side, he walked over, squatted down next to Chang Kun, and offered him a cigarette.
"Give me one."
The two men exhaled smoke rings as they watched the human traffickers being led away like they'd lost their mothers, and they felt a real sense of satisfaction.
"Thanks to you for today's incident."
Chang Kun shook his head: "I'm just leading the way; catching them is entirely up to you."
Old Zheng laughed: "You're quite something, not greedy for credit at all."
"Alright, the business is done, I should head back now."
Old Zheng was stunned for a moment, then his eyes widened: "Are you kidding me! Come on, let's go drink. You have to be the star of tonight's celebration banquet!"
"I really can't. I have business in Nanchang and can't be delayed... My wife is also waiting for me at the guesthouse. She doesn't know why I'm out here."
"Call your wife along! It'll be more fun with more people!"
Chang Kun wasn't being dramatic; he went out to look for his mother-in-law and brother-in-law, visiting two different places but finding no trace of them.
Although Cheng Min didn't show any unusual behavior, she was actually very anxious inside.
Chang Kun was a little worried about leaving her alone at the guesthouse.
"Brother Zheng, I really have something to discuss. I'll come visit another day."
Seeing Chang Kun's earnest words, Old Zheng glanced at the sky and could only nod: "Alright, you definitely have to come find me another day. I still owe you a drink!"
Chang Kun nodded and turned to walk out.
After walking a few steps, I heard Old Zheng's voice behind me.
"Chang Kun, you're great."
Several police officers nearby also shouted, "Comrade Chang, well done!"
Chang Kun turned around and waved his hand, saying, "These police officers are the real heroes."
They lacked the skills to instinctively sense danger or to land a single, decisive blow, but when faced with the guns of human traffickers, they charged in without hesitation.
These are the most lovable people.
Back at the guesthouse, Cheng Min was sitting on the edge of the bed folding clothes, with her packed luggage next to her.
Hearing the noise, she looked up at Chang Kun, her eyes filled with a hint of resentment.
"Why are you only just getting back?"
Chang Kun chuckled and put his arm around his wife's shoulder: "I took care of something, just finished."
Cheng Min didn't ask for details; she knew that if Chang Kun wanted her to know, he would bring it up himself.
"So, shall we leave tomorrow?"
Chang Kun thought for a moment and said, "How about we stay another day?"
I finally made it to Nanchang, but I only went to Bayi Park and didn't have a proper chance to explore it. I might not have the chance to come here again in the future.
Cheng Min pouted: "Didn't you say you were going to Guangzhou?"
"I know you're anxious, so I promise you, I'll take you sightseeing for another day tomorrow, and then we'll go to Guangzhou first thing the day after tomorrow."
"What's there to see?" Cheng Min knew that Chang Kun wanted to take her out more to ease her anxiety.
But right now, all I wanted to do was find my mother and younger brother as soon as possible, and I really had no desire to wander around.
Chang Kun thought for a moment and said, "Alright then, we'll go to Tengwang Pavilion tomorrow morning and leave for Guangzhou in the afternoon."
If you come all the way to Nanchang, it would be a real shame to not visit Tengwang Pavilion.
