Chapter 26 Reunion (Part Two)

"Sir, we've arrived. This is Bangor Harbor." Old Kim drove the carriage to a stop in front of the Green Vine Inn.

Lynn lifted the carriage curtain and looked out the window at the main cobblestone road, the three- or four-story buildings on both sides of the road, and the pedestrians with rosy complexions and clean clothes.

This is Bangor Port, and it's definitely different from my hometown town.

My hometown town still has dirt roads, and my trousers would easily get dirty on rainy days.

However, perhaps because it was near the harbor, and with winter approaching, many pedestrians on the street were wearing thick coats and scarves around their necks.

Although it was quite different from the big cities he remembered, considering the scenery he had seen along the way in this era, Bangor Port was already quite surprising to him.

"Sir, the rest..." Old Kim stammered.

Lynn settled the remaining money, which he had prepared in advance, with Old Kim.

Old Kim took the money and thanked him repeatedly.

"Sir, where do you need to go? I can give you a ride."

Old Kim said,

Although we traveled during the day and rested at night, the horses were still very tired and needed to rest here for two days.

So he won't be leaving Bangor Port for the time being, and some things here are cheaper than in his hometown, so he wants to buy some things to take back to his family.

Lynn looked at the teacher, but Anglie just kept his head down, engrossed in looking at the magic book.

Through this period of contact, Lynn roughly understood what her teacher meant.

"If you need to find someone, do you have any connections?" Lynn asked.

"The hotel owner should know," Old Kim said.

Hotel owners are usually associated with all sorts of people, so finding a hotel owner is not a problem.

They contacted the hotel owner through Old Kim.

The hotel owner sized up Lynn's clothes.

He doesn't seem like a rich person, nor does he seem like a nobleman, but since he can rent a carriage this far, he must have some wealth.

Thinking of this, the hotel owner said, "Big Gold Tooth at the docks, he has a lot of leather gloves under his command, and he knows more information than most people."

"But finding someone isn't free. If you're looking for Big Gold Tooth, be prepared to get ripped off." The hotel owner asked, "Are you sure you want me to help you make the contact?"

Lynn said, "Then I'll have to trouble you, boss."

Lynn knew that as the hotel owner, he would definitely get a cut of the profits, which was the so-called brokerage fee. This would be included in the commission he paid to Big Gold Tooth.

The hotel owner beckoned to the bodyguard behind him and asked him to bring someone over.

Before long, a drunken man was brought in. The hotel owner nodded slightly in acknowledgment and then turned and left with his bodyguard.

The drunkard reeked, and his hair hadn't been washed in ages.

"Five silver coins." The drunkard spread out five fingers. "Give me five silver coins and I'll take you to see my boss."

Lynn, without changing his expression, took out five silver coins and handed them to the drunkard.

The drunkard took the silver coin, bit it with his yellowed teeth, and sniffed it intensely.

Finally, satisfied, he hid the silver coin in the back of his pants.

"Come with me."

The old drunkard led Lynn downstairs and out through the side door of the hotel.

Lynn frowned. "Wait a minute."

The drunkard stopped in his tracks.

Lynn said, "Wait here for me a moment, I have a companion."

Lynn returned to the front door of the inn, only to find the carriage empty.

The teacher is gone.

"How can such a big person still not listen and wander around like this?" Lynn said helplessly.

Lynn asked old Kim if he had seen any trace of Anglie.

Old Kim quickly shook her head, saying somewhat fearfully, "I found the carriage empty as soon as I got off."

Lynn then asked the hotel owner, who said he hadn't seen the teacher.

Lynn remained silent, but a teacher is a grown man, he can't possibly get lost.

Moreover, although the teacher looks very thin, you don't need to worry about his safety. The people who should be worried are those who try to take advantage of the teacher.

I guess the teacher wants me to finish handling things.

After all, the teacher hadn't objected when he told her he wanted to find his family.

Lynn then returned to the side door.

The drunkard led the way, weaving and twisting in front of him, while Lynn stood with his hands in his pockets, his eyes calm.

He could sense that two iron earthworms were following him right beneath his feet.

Last night, while resting, Lynn had Iron Earth travel overnight, advancing a distance through the soil in the direction we were supposed to come from today, which is why the two of them were able to keep up.

It has indeed come in handy. In this era of lawlessness, Lynn never trusts or overestimates the morality of others.

It's not impossible for someone you're trading with one moment to become a robber the next.

As I walked through the street, seagulls circled overhead.

Along the vast, azure coastline, large ships are docked at the pier.

Dockworkers in short-sleeved shirts unloaded cargo from ships or loaded goods from the docks onto ships, making the banks of the canal bustling with activity.

Tourists dressed in bright and colorful clothes, exuding exotic charm, disembark from the ship and stroll along the buildings near the sea. The snow-white walls face the sea, and the eaves are decorated with seashells, mermaid statues, and other ornaments. The aroma of food wafts through the air, and there are bars, restaurants, bakeries, and some local specialty food shops.

beep--

Accompanied by the melodious sound of a horn, a steamship with black smoke billowing from its chimney slowly docked at the shore on the sea. Some people wearing lace hats leaned out from the ship's side, their long, purplish-black hair hanging down from their shoulders.

At the dock, many young men and women wearing hats quickly went up to greet them, holding flowers or some exquisite seashells in their hands.

"This is the steel ship of the Fisher Empire. Those brats are just a bunch of thugs. They earn more than me just by leading the way," the drunkard said with some envy. Then he tilted his head and spat on the ground. "Those purple-haired devils from the Fisher Empire are really rich."

"This is the new dock. Even the laborers who move things here are from noble families. All the shops along the dock are monopolized by the powerful nobles in the port. The money these shops earn every day is enough for me to drink for a year," the old drunkard said enviously, smacking his lips.

"Big Gold Tooth is right here?" Lynn was somewhat surprised. If that was the case, then the power behind Big Gold Tooth was probably not small. Lynn felt that he should consider his next move.

"This new dock is full of foreign ships. Our boss is at the old dock, which is full of old merchant ships, mostly from within the kingdom." The old drunkard led Lynn through the streets of the new port.

After walking a distance further ahead towards the new pier for about half an hour, the surrounding roads were in poor condition, and even the number of pedestrians began to decrease.

But soon, the crowd around them gradually thickened again.

However, the residents here are clearly not as energetic as those in the new port area, and the surrounding buildings also have a stronger sense of historical vicissitude.

If the new dock is new, then this place is old.

Houses of varying heights dotted the area, each with a drainage ditch dug in front. Lynn saw women carrying basins and pouring water into the ditch. In the distance, on a wide open dock, cargo containers were piled up, and dockworkers were carrying them and calling out enthusiastically.

The people here were busy and bustling about. Several dark-skinned little boys wearing only underwear ran out of the alley next door, chasing each other and then running away naked.

"Look, this is the old dock." The old drunkard nodded, then led Lynn into the alleyway beside him. "By the way, don't call him Big Gold Tooth later, the boss's name is Hampton."

Before long, the old drunkard led Lynn to a house that looked no different from the other buildings around it.

Two dark-skinned men with tattoos on their arms leaned against the wall next to the entrance of the house.

A faint commotion could be heard coming from inside the room.

"Looking for Boss Big Gold Tooth," the old drunkard said.

The two men looked Lynn up and down, and seeing that she was a young, fair-skinned virgin, they waved for her to go inside.

"Big! Big! Big!"

"Small! Small! Small!"

Inside the room, a number of burly men were gathered around a table, on which dice were being shaken and surrounded by piles of copper coins.

"Your name is Hamilton, right? Jeffs told me you're short of money. I can lend you some, but it depends on whether you're obedient." In the room on the second floor, the window was open, and on the sofa, a fat man with a sparse beard and wearing a hat said to Hamilton.

Hamilton remained silent. Yesterday, the doctor said it would be best to move to a less damp place, otherwise, even if his wife's illness was cured in that kind of place, it would still be a chronic condition. It would be best to move to a different place.

On one hand, there's the money to support his family, and on the other hand, there's the cost of medical treatment. He also needs to move his family to a new place and spend money to inquire about Ava. The heavy pressure is overwhelming for him.

Yesterday he had intended to cause trouble for those two thugs, but perhaps the two thugs were also worried about encountering the enraged Hamilton—this burly man who was over 1.9 meters tall—so they didn't go home all night.

When he came to work at the dock today, a cargo unloader who had been working with him for a while noticed that he was in a bad mood. After chatting with him and learning that he was short of money, the unloader introduced him to the dock's big gold tooth, Hampton.

He had heard of Southton and knew that some people privately called him the dock rat.

This vibrant port city has both sunshine and darkness.

Big Gold Tooth was secretly involved in some shady business dealings. Of course, there were several other people like Big Gold Tooth in the dock area.

He used to keep his distance from him, and if he weren't short of money, he wouldn't have abandoned his principles.

Moreover, it's said that this guy with the big gold tooth is very well-informed, and he might even be looking for Ava through him.

"I can help you with things," Hamilton said after a moment of silence.

"Hahaha." Big Gold Tooth took a puff of his cigar.

dong dong dong.

A knock came at the door.

A henchman walked in and whispered in Big Gold Tooth's ear.

Big Gold Tooth chuckled. "The drunkard brought a little fat lamb. Let's go check it out in Hamilton."

I'm going to sleep now. I'll check for typos tomorrow morning.
