Chapter 38 Shorting the Osborne Group

Chapter 38 Shorting the Osborne Group

It was late at night. On the way, listening to "A Little Energetic Tune" playing on the car stereo, Ang looked out the car window with great interest at the beautiful women on the roadside who had to wear less clothing because of poverty. He seemed to be in a very good mood.

Gwen was a little annoyed.

Her subtle little expressions were like she was performing "Look at Me.mkv".

Ang looked at her and got down to business: "The Osborn family is in big trouble lately."

"Hmm?" Gwen's ears perked up slightly.

"Norman Osborn is dying. Harry is too young and impetuous; clearly, he can't handle the Osborn Group."

The wealthy have their own intelligence channels, and keeping a close eye on competitors is standard practice.

Gwen carefully considered Harry's performance that day. His attempt to stand up for Tony was clearly a poor choice. Running into Tony unexpectedly wasn't the problem; the real issue was his failure to properly understand his own position as a brother.

Since they didn't know each other, they shouldn't have forced their way into this situation. Besides, Adrian, as the host, had terrible control over the situation, or rather, he wasn't qualified to do so.

"Good heavens, I'm working part-time in Osborne." Gwen clearly expressed her concern for the company's future.

"Resign. The Osborne Group is in danger."

"Danger?" Gwen's eyes widened.

"The company was alright when old Osborn was still around. But once it fell into Harry's hands, it was as unreliable as a kid holding a nuclear launch button without a password." Ang's words were perfectly befitting of his aristocratic status. As a 'friend,' he had already done more than enough by reminding her; Gwen wasn't anyone to him on the surface.

Gwen nodded: "I will consider it carefully."

Back downstairs at Gwen's house, Gwen got angry again.

She wasn't sure if Ang was doing it intentionally or not, because just as she got out of the car, Harry's McLaren carrying Peter arrived. Also arriving was Louis, Ang's bodyguard, who was driving the group of women who had had a great time with Peter that evening.

"Goodnight, Peter. I had a wonderful evening." Michelle got out of the car and gave Peter a big hug.

"Peter, me too..." Compared to Michelle, Mary Jane's figure was even more voluptuous. When she hugged him, it was like a ball of fire, and Peter fully experienced what a voluptuous beauty was.

In addition, there were two other beautiful women whose names Ang couldn't recall. Unable to hook up with Tony, they turned their attention back to Peter.

The four beauties tacitly ignored Peter and Liz's interaction that evening.

Good men are meant to be fought over!

Perhaps in their hearts they had cursed each other countless times as "beach girls," but on the surface they remained amicable, their smiles as bright as flowers.

At this moment, the lights on the second floor of both houses came on.

Aunt May, still exuding charm, appeared at the window, watching the popular Peter with a constant, doting smile. However, when she caught sight of Gwen being seen off by Ang, and their eyes met, Aunt May gave an apologetic smile.

"Sorry!" That's what Aunt May's lips were saying.

Gwen responded with an awkward smile.

What gave her the creeps was the gaze of her father on the second floor. After transforming into the Ghost Spider, her perception had greatly improved, and she could clearly feel her father's sorrow.

He was clearly saying—why did you mess with that playboy Ang?

Ang ignored the police chief, who had survived the Doomsday Incident and the Lizardmen Incident, and stared at Harry, who was looking back at him.

Their gazes met in the air, as if they could spark terrifying flames.

Unfortunately, in the end, Harry didn't say anything more. He just nodded as a farewell, got into his McLaren, started the engine, and drove off.

Ang noticed that Harry's hand trembled slightly before he got into the car, and then he touched his neck. Only someone with very good eyesight could see that there seemed to be a strange scar on the skin at his collar.

After politely saying goodbye to Gwen, Ang returned to the car and found Louis had already gotten back in.

"Boss, that kid Osborn is hostile towards you."

Ang waved his hand: "It's alright. I'm always very forgiving of someone who's about to die."

Louis's face immediately fell.

"I mean, the Osborn family has a serious hereditary disease that causes each generation to die young. Norman is an exception, and I just saw that Harry's illness has flared up."

Louis's expression immediately relaxed: Oh, is that so... Boss, if everyone who opposes you dies suddenly, I'll be under a lot of pressure!

Back at Ang's villa, the lights were still on even though it was late at night.

In a side room, Dana and Sarah were directing a group of more than ten people, constantly busy in front of their computers.

When they saw Ang return, the Lance sisters had a hint of sadness in their eyes.

"You're back?"

"I thought you were going to stay out overnight."

Ang couldn't possibly misunderstand the subtext of the Lance sisters' coordinated attack.

"That was just a formality. I'm going to see Harry Osborn tonight. Besides, you all know who Gwen is."

Upon hearing Ang's words, the two sisters immediately put away their childishness and began to report seriously.

They had to be serious; getting involved with such a super-rich young master was inherently a very risky business. If a beautiful woman simply cultivated the "force of being pounced on," she would get bored quickly and be ruthlessly abandoned.

Look at Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark when they were young; they changed women faster than they changed clothes.

Beauty alone isn't enough to keep someone by their side.

Sarah said first, "I've already contacted seven banks because you, Ang, are willing to pledge your Stark stock, and they've agreed to lend you their Osborn stock."

Dina continued, "Ang, are you really going to go this far? You're not using retail investors as cover at all. Once you make a move, it's like you're openly standing against the Osborn Group. If you fail, all your money with Stark will be gone."

"It's nothing. To my 'backer,' it's just a small amount of money." Ang seemed unconcerned and then changed the subject to check on his canary's development.

Ultimately, the money Ang truly controlled came from the Betinelli family, whom Black Mask had killed. This family was only second-rate in Gotham. By using this money and saving Tony's life, Ang merely doubled its value and laundered it.

Unfortunately, it's still a long way from shaking the shareholdings of Stark Industries and Wayne Enterprises.

What he wants is to legitimately increase the value of this money.

As the two canaries began to chirp, Ang laughed: "It's alright. The fact that Harry Osborn, who was supposed to be studying away from home, has been recalled means his father, Norman, is going to die. I'll short the Osborn Group, and I can make a small fortune just from that."

Short selling is essentially betting on a price drop. It involves borrowing 100 yuan worth of stock from a bank, selling it, and then buying it back for 80 yuan if the price falls. Ang then returns the same amount of stock to the bank within a specified time, paying a small amount of interest. All the remaining price difference belongs to Ang.

Anger's prediction was correct; that very evening, Harry had only driven halfway when he received a call informing him that his father, Norman, was dying. Harry rushed back to the Osborn family's extravagant, classically European-style mansion.

Harry waited outside his father's room all night for the doctors to finish their work. Finally, at 10 a.m., the medical team reluctantly announced that they would give up on Norman, and Harry could go see his father one last time.

Perhaps, the wealthy young men all had similar unhappiness in their childhood—having a very capable but domineering father and lacking family affection.

Just as Harry was venting to his father, who was lying in a hospital bed, about how he only received a bottle of wine from his father's assistant for his sixteenth birthday, Norman coldly told Harry a cruel truth.

"Do you think I'm frantically working on my career just for myself? It's also for you. There's a genetic disease in our family called reverse cell proliferation. Once it starts, it kills regardless of age or physical condition. You're almost there now. I'll leave all my wealth to you. Whether you survive or not is up to you."

Not long after he finished speaking, Norman died.

As the private doctor and nurses walked in and covered his father's body with a white sheet, Harry felt little grief. From childhood, he had only felt hatred for his father who had neglected him.

Now, Harry felt no joy at the prospect of owning a vast business empire; instead, he was gripped by a deep sense of fear.

With trembling hands, he touched his neck, where a boil-like lump had recently grown several times its original size.

Having successfully gained full access to his father's research projects, Harry frantically searched through them and discovered that the only way to cure this incurable disease was to address it at the genetic level.

Dr. Connors's lizard gene project has clearly failed; just look at what Connors looks like as a lizard man.

As Harry continued searching, he suddenly discovered that spider genes have an extremely strong self-healing ability!
