Chapter 46 The Court of Owls

"The judge is being watched!"

Dam's eyes darted around as he spoke quickly, seemingly worried about something; his gaze was filled with vigilance.

"Being targeted?"

"Yes, that's what's been circulating in the underworld lately. Actually, there's an ancient legend in Gotham City! Behind all evil, there stands a powerful organization that has been controlling Gotham for many years!"

"Oh?"

Lin Jue immediately became interested, since he didn't seem to have any such organization in his memory.

Although I know that the world cannot be generalized as I have seen it before.

"We all know the name of that organization, but we don't know where they're hiding. They monitor the daily lives of everyone in Gotham; they are the true rulers of Gotham!"

Dam lowered his voice, which was barely audible in the noisy bar, but Lin Jue's hearing was exceptional.

"So stop keeping me in suspense!"

"Court of Owls!"

"?"

"It's said they've started paying attention to the Judges. They've always tolerated crime and deeply resent both Batman and the Judges—a damned cancer on Gotham!"

Dam looked resentful, but also a little doubtful.

Lin Jue, however, wasn't particularly flustered. If it were the old him, he might have been more cautious, but now…

At least in Gotham, he no longer needs to be too afraid!

With the ringing of the door, the tavern's guests began to return home. Dam and Emily said goodbye and left as well.

After saying goodnight to Emily, Lin Jue went into his room, habitually leaning against the covers, listening to the gradually calming breathing next door.

As a beam of moonlight shone through the curtains onto his bed, Lin Jue slowly stood up, trying to remain silent, opened the window, and scanned the darkened street with his night-vision eyes.

The next moment, he suddenly leaped out of the window, and the instant he landed, his figure became a blur, quickly disappearing into the corner of the street.

At a university campus, groups of young people walked along streets that were nearly deserted.

"It's true, I really saw the judge!"

A burly young man couldn't help but shout, but his companions clearly didn't believe him, and everyone burst into laughter.

This left the young man feeling helpless.

"Speaking of which, we're out so late tonight, what if we run into criminals?! You know what I mean!"

A blonde girl with long, wavy hair couldn't help but chuckle.

"What a joke! Those criminals might mess with us, but if they see you, they'll run for their lives!"

A young white man couldn't help but laugh, and his words were echoed by those around him, as if everyone believed this seemingly absurd statement.

However, the girl curled her lip, looking disdainful: "I hate it when people put me and my family together!"

He strode out of the crowd and quickly walked into the darkness at the street corner, while the students behind him burst out laughing.

"What is Elena thinking? If it weren't for her, we wouldn't dare stay this long!"

"That's right, that's right! Her family is a well-known wealthy family in our East District. Let's keep up with her! What if we stray too far and get targeted by other criminals? We'll have no one to protect us!"

"Ha ha!"

Laughter echoed through the streets as these people, their faces beaming, hurried after the girl, as if they could find safety simply by walking beside her.

However, things never go as planned!

As the group of people were chatting and laughing as they drove through the dark streets, a figure suddenly appeared at the brightly lit intersection ahead, standing quietly in the middle of the street.

He appeared to be facing them, but because of the darkness, they couldn't see his face clearly.

"Hey! Bro, what are you doing over there?"

The group of students all stopped in the middle of the intersection, afraid to move forward, including Elena. The situation made her frown, but she didn't panic much, as if she had something to rely on.

A male student glanced at Elena, then mustered his courage, walked up to her, and slowly approached, shouting loudly as he went.

But as he approached and hurled insults, the man remained motionless, still standing at the crossroads in their path.

"Hey! Brother, if you're thinking of robbing me, let me tell you straight, you've messed with the wrong person!" the man shouted loudly. Although his words were arrogant, he didn't dare to take a step forward. His companions behind him also began to look nervous.

They gradually sensed an unusual atmosphere.

"Elena, my friend, she's from the Grayson family. Brother, you should know the Graysons, right?"

The man, somewhat skeptical, shouted again. The next moment, the figure standing at the intersection finally moved, and amidst everyone's expectant gazes, he slowly walked towards them.

"Fuck! Fuck!"

The students finally panicked, grabbing Elena and running backwards. However, a male student at the very back couldn't help but exclaim, "Fuck, who are you?"

These people looked around in a panic, only to see a figure appear on the street behind them, standing quietly at the intersection where they had come from.

"Fuck, Elena, call out your men who are protecting you!"

A student finally looked at Elena in a panic, but Elena's face also showed a hint of panic. She suddenly realized that something seemed wrong. Usually at this time, before she encountered the criminals, those guys would be held down by her bodyguards who were hiding in the shadows.

But now, watching the figures on both sides of the street slowly walking towards them, their bodyguards didn't make a sound.

Just then, the group of students panicked again, and two figures fell to the ground, their suits stained with blood.

"what!"

The female students in the group were the first to scream. Even Elena looked pale as she stared at the figure that had fallen to the ground. Her heart sank into an abyss. She recognized her bodyguard at a glance.

That was a famous underground boxer, but now he was lying on the ground like a dead dog, barely breathing, clearly on the verge of death.

Looking up in astonishment, a man dressed in a black trench coat and with his face covered in black cloth jumped from a building more than three meters high, landing steadily amidst gasps from the crowd.

"I am from the Grayson family. Who are you?"

Elena's face turned pale, and she tried to remain calm as she shouted.

"The Grayson family?"

The newcomer's voice was low and slow, with an inexplicable odor in his tone. His eyes, coated with a layer of black ash, gleamed, and the corners of his mouth were slightly upturned.
