Chapter 329 Behemoth of the Beast Universe
Chapter 329 Behemoth of the Beast Universe
Ron wasn't surprised by Azure Star's astonishment—Capcom is known as the "Action Gaming King" in the gaming industry, and its IPs naturally hold a significant position in their respective niches. In such cases, collaborations are commonplace.
The Behemoth in Azure Star's mind is clearly a crossover monster with FF14. The main plot involves a classic boss from the Final Fantasy series arriving in the Monster Hunter world from Final Fantasy XIV, followed by Azure Star's hunt.
The collaboration between Monster Hunter and Behemoth is also considered the most difficult collaboration monster in Monster Hunter history.
Judging from Azure Star's reaction, it is clear that even for Azure Star itself, Behemoth was a huge challenge, leaving an extremely deep impression and influence on it.
As for Ron himself... at the time, Monster Hunter World was a PS4 exclusive, not available on PC. Without Windfury and Moonshade, and without mods, he had to rely on random groups and brute force. The difficulty of the quest goes without saying, as it's considered one of the most difficult crossover monsters in history. Because his skills were so poor, and to avoid hindering the skilled players he was leading, Ron even abandoned his initial choice of the Charge Blade and switched to the Heavy Bowgun for ranged attacks—his Dragon Shot was truly satisfying.
Interestingly, while constantly joining random teams, Ron unexpectedly joined a streamer's temporary team. Since it was his first time playing Monster Hunter, Ron was surprised to find that everyone was using heavy bowgun spread ammo to deal damage—Ron was too, but the reason was that he was still a newbie at the time, lacked confidence in his skills, and was afraid of rushing in and getting slapped to death, thus dragging down his teammates.
That time, Ron discovered that Behemoth was incredibly fast, quickly pushing it to the final area. However, he ultimately failed because Behemoth summoned the Zodiac Meteorite, and he was blocked by the meteor shower, unable to hide behind other rocks. But it was through this experience that Ron learned that there were weapons in Monster Hunter that lacked the spirit of the hunter, and that there were also cults like the Propagation Cult, who were obsessed with militarized hunting, lacking the spirit of the hunter.
However, Ron eventually managed to collect the collaboration's Piercing Spear and Dragon Set. He played through it twice, and aside from the core materials, the other materials were either obtained by completing low-difficulty prerequisite quests for supporting other characters, or by having his Palico equip a hunting knife to steal materials.
Well, besides Behemoth, Monster Hunter World has many other collaborations. For example... the collaboration with The Witcher 3.
Thinking this, Ron was also a little curious whether Azure Star knew Geralt and his companions. After all, that stag-headed demon wasn't easy to defeat.
Following Ron's voice, Azure Star looked towards the coast and saw the enormous mammoth. Her eyes flickered for a moment before she quickly regained her composure. She then gripped the longsword behind her and asked, "What should I do?"
"It's up to you," Ron said. "Whether you hunt or drive them away, it's your choice."
"……I see."
Upon hearing Ron's words, Azure Star nodded after a brief silence, then released her grip on the knife without a word.
"Roar!" Azure Star roared. It wasn't directed at Behemoth, but at King Kong standing to the side.
Although Azure Star spent very little time with King Kong, its learning ability was quite remarkable. Furthermore, the system provided a wealth of information related to animal behavior and ecology, and to facilitate its upcoming missions, Azure Star also learned some basic communication commands for the giant beasts.
This mode of communication appears to be through sound, but in reality, sound only plays a supporting role, similar to human interjections, to help the "written" text better express its meaning in different environments and contexts. The actual method of communication is through the secretion of pheromones.
Upon hearing Azure Star's voice, Kong, whose attention had been drawn to Behemoth, paused for a moment. He then looked at Azure Star and, after sensing the pheromones emanating from her, nodded quickly. He then reached out and lifted Azure Star onto his shoulder. The next moment, Kong jumped into the water and quickly crawled towards the direction of Behemoth.
These behemoths usually live hidden beyond the world and rarely contact surface civilizations, but finding them isn't actually that difficult. Especially now, each behemoth is constantly seeking high-density energy to enhance its combat power, driven by the fear of the unknown. And excluding nuclear submarines and nuclear weapons, there are only four or five hundred nuclear power plants in the world. These energy-rich production bases are like a perfect tonic for the behemoths.
Behemoth is located in Rio de Janeiro. Coincidentally, Brazil has two nuclear power plants and one under construction. Argentina, which borders Brazil, also has two nuclear power plants. Taking advantage of its proximity, Behemoth is clearly now targeting the nuclear power plants near its home country.
The massive body emerged from the deep mountains, its brown fur covered in moss and rocks. It shook itself to shake off the mud, then Behemoth strode forward, crushing everything in its path.
With such a colossal body, even though Behemoth's purpose was simply to replenish its energy, its sheer size caused unimaginable destruction in its path. Upon reaching the nuclear power plant, a mere swing of its enormous fangs unleashed a series of astonishing flashes and explosions that tore the plant apart. Radiation leaked, and people ran in panic, while Behemoth comfortably remained stationary, absorbing the leaked radiation at an astonishing rate to enhance the energy within its body.
It was at this moment that they noticed King Kong and Azure Star landing from a distance—in fact, they only noticed King Kong, because standing atop King Kong's nearly 100-meter-tall frame, the towering Azure Star appeared to be nothing more than a slightly coarse patch of fur… especially since the Black Dragon Armor was inherently black. Surrounded by King Kong's jet-black, stiff fur, it was truly difficult to spot at a glance without careful observation.
Although the King Kong race rarely appears on the surface world, the giant beasts are no strangers to them—in the inner world, the King Kongs have always been a powerful race with regional dominance.
But those were ancient calendars from thousands or tens of thousands of years ago. Located on the surface, while surprised to see King Kong, Behemoth wouldn't allow anyone to steal its food. Sure enough, before King Kong could even attempt to communicate, Behemoth let out a warning roar.
"hold head high!!!!"
With a roar, Behemoth bared its large teeth and swung its long nose wildly, its warning clear.
Seeing Behemoth's wary and hostile gaze, Azure Star fell into a brief silence before shaking her head and preparing for battle.
While the behemoths possess intelligence, they are still essentially wild beasts. Even King Kong's intelligence is only equivalent to that of an eight- or nine-year-old human. Therefore, attempting to "negotiate" with them—a behavior befitting highly intelligent beings—is futile.
That might have been possible before, but now, how should we deal with monsters whose emotions have become exceptionally ferocious due to environmental factors? This is detailed in the Hunter's Code of Conduct of the Hunter's Guild.
If you can drive them away, then drive them away; if you can't, subdue them and then release them. The same principle applies here. First, subdue them, make them realize your strength, and then consider how to reach a consensus with them!
"roar."
It let out a low, eerie cry. Humans couldn't understand it, but sensing the Azure Star's meaning through its pheromones, King Kong nodded vigorously, then pounded his chest and let out an exhilarating battle roar, "Roar!!!!"
King Kong was genuinely excited.
This was his first time outside of Skull Island, and the first time he had seen a giant monster of similar size to himself, apart from the Skull Lizard. This feeling of seeing a "kindred spirit" excited King Kong. After letting out a few low growls, King Kong eagerly charged forward.
Seeing this, Behemoth roared in anger, then aimed its thick, long fangs at King Kong, and its massive, mountain-like body began to charge at King Kong at an astonishing speed. King Kong, not to be outdone, stretched out its arms amidst Behemoth's roar, grabbed two of Behemoth's fangs, and began to wrestle with Behemoth.
Seeing King Kong grab his fangs, Behemoth angrily shook his head, trying to break free. However, King Kong's combat intelligence was clearly not low. Seeing Behemoth's movements, he not only did not let go but gripped even tighter, as if afraid that Behemoth would actually break free.
King Kong's decision was undoubtedly correct. Although he only grasped Behemoth's teeth, this rendered Behemoth's entire massive body unable to move flexibly. It wanted to launch a fierce attack, but the giant tooth in King Kong's hand acted like a control lever for Behemoth; while not directly controlling it, it indirectly affected Behemoth, making its free movement impossible.
This is also a classic misconception: that humans are able to defeat wild animals because they know how to use weapons and set traps. But in reality, even without weapons and traps, human hands are an unimaginable superpower for other wild animals.
Now, having forcibly controlled Behemoth's movements and forced it into a sparring match, Kong tensed all its muscles in excitement. But Behemoth was no pushover. Noticing Kong's reaction, it simply gave up trying to break free and instead began to forcefully thrust into Kong until it was killed.
Unfortunately, just as the two behemoths began to wrestle, Azure Star, who was on King Kong's side, silently put away the Black Dragon Annihilation Blade on his back after a brief silence, and instead took out a huge, heavy, pitch-black bone hammer made of curved horns and covered with spikes.
Just like the Black Dragon Annihilation Blade, the Black Dragon Annihilation Hammer is forged from Black Dragon materials.
Lowering his center of gravity, Azure Star began to unleash the hidden power within him. With each breath, a violent surge of energy rose rapidly from his body. This energy emanated from Azure Star, forming a dark, shimmering glow that swirled around him before finally flowing into the heavy hammer.
Just as its power was about to reach its limit, Azure Star let out a heavy sigh. With a legendary burst of energy, Azure Star's life force began to spread outwards. This allowed Behemoth, who had been focusing his attention on King Kong, to quickly discover Azure Star hiding within King Kong.
Although tiny, the figure was filled with a violent, berserk power that terrified Behemoth.
Realizing the danger and somewhat bewildered, Behemoth tried to break free once more. But King Kong clearly wasn't giving Behemoth a new chance. Noticing Azure Star's movements, King Kong didn't hesitate, tightening his grip on Behemoth and refusing to let go no matter how much Behemoth retreated. In the back-and-forth struggle, King Kong was even dragged dozens of meters by Behemoth. His massive body carved deep furrows across the ground, leaving behind tracks as thick as riverbeds.
As his power reached its peak, Azure Star locked onto Behemoth, then gripped his great hammer and began to charge. The burly hunter raced along King Kong's massive body, hurtling towards Behemoth at an astonishing speed, following King Kong's arms. Just before reaching the ends of the arms, Azure Star leaped into the air.
It wasn't the gliding motion as before, nor was it a simple jump. In fact, quite the opposite, the Azure Star gave the impression of spinning like a top in the air at an astonishing speed.
As it spun, the massive hammer in Azure Star's hand generated intense heat from the friction with the air, gleaming with a crimson glow. Behemoth tried to dodge, but it was too late. Especially since King Kong was still gripping his two large teeth. Helpless and desperate, Behemoth could only forcefully raise his head to collide with Azure Star.
"bump!!!"
The tiny figure collided with the colossal beast, as massive as a mountain, accompanied by a deafening, muffled roar. The violent impact instantly created a visible storm. To onlookers, the azure star high in the sky was barely larger than a grain of rice. Yet, this seemingly insignificant figure generated astonishing energy upon impact. This energy spread throughout Behemoth's body, blasting its nightmarish form off the ground. As it crashed down, it even managed to collapse a mountainside!
Seeing Behemoth bleeding from his mouth and nose but still breathing, Azure Star nodded in satisfaction.
It's obvious he controlled his strength well. The deception didn't hurt his brain, and the force was just right.
