Chapter 74 Mother
Chapter 74 Mother
metropolis.
Under the deep darkness of night, skyscrapers are composed of countless neon lights.
These colorful lights intertwine and shimmer in the night, like a beautiful painting unfolding before you.
A black sedan, whose expensive price was evident from its paint and body lines, slowly came to a stop in front of a manor.
A pair of straight, long legs gently stepped on the tiles in front of the manor.
The young man in the black suit straightened his tie, slowly raised his head, and looked at the sadness in his eyes.
Under the pitch-black night,
A gilded plaque hangs on the iron gate of the manor: Swimmore Mental Hospital.
Swimmore Asylum is a long-established and authoritative institution.
This mental hospital existed as early as the beginning of the metropolis's development, but in those days there were very few people who went insane, and the mental hospital's business was not good.
However, as times have changed and the pace of life has accelerated, the number of crazy people in the city has increased, and Swimmore Manor, which used to welcome everyone, has successfully transformed: they now only serve the elite.
After the security guards at the gate verified his identity, the tightly closed iron gate opened, and Gino strode into the sprawling estate.
The roadside was lined with a type of blue flower.
Gino casually picked a bunch of flowers and strolled into the manor castle.
Security guards stood around the hall.
The mental patients, dressed in hospital gowns, were each lost in their own worlds.
Some people walked with their heads down, hurrying along, circling the hall.
Some people stood on tables, chairs, and benches, singing loudly, chanting unpleasant tunes.
Gino walked through the group of mental patients and headed to the second floor.
As Gino climbed the wooden stairs to the second floor, he heard a melodious song echoing in the corridor.
The singing was soft and slow, like a mother singing a requiem to her child.
Gino looked at the blonde woman leaning against the locked window with a complicated expression.
That was his mother, Leticia Elliott.
Four years ago, unable to endure Lionel's endless infidelity and arguments any longer, this flower who had grown up in a greenhouse chose to end her life.
She jumped headfirst from the fourth floor of her house. Gino caught her, but because of the height difference, the woman hit her head and developed a chronic illness.
This incident was like a thorn in Gino’s heart, and it was the root cause of the strained relationship between him and Lionel.
No one has a smooth life. Even Gino, who has unlimited potential, secretly found a secluded place to cry for a while after Leticia jumped from the fourth floor.
Gino looked at his mother.
She touched the cold glass with one hand, as if trying to pick up the small flowers through the window.
Her other hand was tightly clutching two teddy bears.
Even wearing the smallest size hospital gown couldn't hide her thin figure.
Those dark circles under her eyes prove that the woman's sleep quality is not very good.
A serene smile played on her lips. When she heard footsteps behind her, the woman turned around.
She saw the handsome young man walking towards her, and the woman's serene smile instantly turned gloomy. She screamed and charged at Gino.
"Leave! Leave now!"
The woman waved her arms, making a shooing gesture, trying to drive away the uninvited guest.
"This is my castle! Lionel is not here!"
"Mom." Gino reached out and grasped the woman's wrist, his azure eyes fixed on the woman whose eyes matched his. "It's me, Gino."
I've come to see you.
The woman listened to Gino's words, tilted her head to look at the two dolls in her hands, and looked confused: "But my two children are with me."
As she spoke, the woman took a piece of candy from the patient's pocket and gave it to the golden plush bear, gently stroking the toy's head with tender eyes: "Your favorite candy, Gino."
Watching this scene silently, Gino sighed.
Why does that hairless little bear look so pitiful?
"All right."
He abandoned his plan to make Leticia Elliott realize that she was Gino.
In the world of the mentally ill, only by obeying them can one achieve their goals.
Gino put it another way.
"I am Mr. Lauren Elliott's driver, here to take you back to Gotham."
Hearing Gino's words, the woman's wary expression vanished instantly, and she exclaimed like a little girl, "Did Father send you to pick me up?"
"That's right." Gino pulled a crumpled little blue flower from his pocket and handed it to Leticia with a smile: "Look, this is a little flower native to Gotham."
"Didn't you always like the little flowers at Elliott Manor?" Gino glanced at the flowerbed below the mental hospital. To make Leticia happy, he had paid to have these flowers transplanted from Gotham and planted here, all for the sake of making Leticia happy.
Leticia reached out her little hand in delight to take the blue flower, and smiled at Gino: "Let's go then."
She waved her arms and ran downstairs, shouting, "Go home!"
"Yes," Gino said casually, following behind the woman. "Let's go home."
Gotham.
This cold and ruthless steel jungle sustains everyone in the city.
Gunfire continued to erupt under the cover of night, as if disturbing the cold moon in the sky, which cast a dim, hazy glow, illuminating the gloomy face of Gotham.
Countless towering chimneys spewed gray-black gas into the air, filling every corner of Gotham with a foul, pungent smell of coal smoke.
This is Gotham.
Chaos, filth, evil—any disgusting, unfortunate, angry, or pathetic adjective can be found in this city. It is like a roaring beast in the night, devouring the souls of everyone in the city.
"This damn weather." A brown-haired man in a suit stood outside Gotham Airport.
He glanced at his watch, then at the airport exit.
In the wait, which wasn't long, but the man felt it was long.
A woman in a light blue dress skipped out of the hall, followed by a blond boy.
The people passing by were not surprised by Leticia's actions.
Because this is Gotham, a few crazy people or mentally ill people pop out every day.
"Leticia!"
The brown-haired man called out to the woman, "Come this way!"
"Thomas?" Leticia tilted her head and looked at the brown-haired man.
"It's me, Leticia." Thomas smiled, happy to see his only sister.
"Uncle Thomas." Gino followed, carrying his suitcase.
Thomas glanced at Gino, sighed, and said, "Gino, welcome to Gotham. And when you go back, don't forget to tell him about my curse on Lionel!"
Gino shrugged. "I will, but he probably won't care."
The three of them got into Thomas's car.
Throughout the journey, Leticia was like a curious little rascal, peering through the glass to observe the surrounding scenery.
Meanwhile, in the front passenger seat, Thomas was chatting with Gino.
"Come with me to a banquet tomorrow night. I have a good friend I'd like to introduce to you."
As his sister's most beloved youngest son, Thomas, out of affection for Gino, wanted to introduce his connections to him.
Gino nodded and said, "I will, Uncle."
