Chapter 175 Let's Escape the Farm
Chapter 175 Let's Escape the Farm
late at night.
Kent Farm.
With brisk steps and swinging arms, it was like a gentle breeze leaping over fences and haystacks.
Smelling the cow dung in the air, Clark had never felt so close.
Yes, after a terrible trip to another world, Clark is finally going back to his adoptive parents.
He didn't care about his suddenly appearing biological father, Joe Al; Clark had now figured out who was the most important person to him.
At this moment, he was filled with joy. He just wanted to run to his adoptive parents as soon as possible and be with the little life in his mother's womb.
As the boy approached the entrance to the cottage, he slowed his pace, afraid of disturbing his mother, Martha.
Stepping onto the familiar steps, Clark reached for the door lock.
Next, he only needs to turn the doorknob gently to see his adoptive parents.
but,
"Honestly, Clark is a real worry."
Jonathan's voice came from inside the room, his tone low as if suppressing some kind of anger.
Then came the sound of Martha sobbing.
Clark paused slightly, his hand, which should have been resting on the door lock, and pursed his lips. As if possessed, he lowered his arm, wondering why his foster mother was crying.
"This, this isn't Clark's fault, Jonathan."
Martha's voice was as gentle as ever, but the sadness in her tone made Clark unconsciously furrow his brow.
An ominous premonition settled over me, and a gloomy guess surfaced in my mind.
"It was my own fault for falling and miscarrying; it had nothing to do with Clark." Martha's sobs grew louder. "Right now, all I want is for Clark to come back!"
The faint sobs were not loud, but when they reached Clark's ears, they sounded like whips lashing his heart, as if they were whips wielded by slave owners during the Civil War.
"Thump!"
A sound like a heavy object falling onto a wooden plank came from outside.
"Who is it?" Jonathan stood up alertly and reached down to take the hunting rifle hanging on the wall.
"Could it be Clark coming back?" Pale-faced Martha stood up, clutching her stomach, and followed Jonathan toward the wooden door.
Gently pushing open the wooden door, all that remained was the pitch-black night, with only the cold night wind blowing against their bodies.
"It's not Clark." A look of disappointment flashed across Martha's face.
"Let's go in." Jonathan was also somewhat disappointed, and pushed his wife's shoulder as they entered the house.
Neither of them saw the dark figure that flashed by in the abandoned warehouse on the west side of the village.
Back in his "fortress of solitude," Clark, his eyes slightly red, turned to look at Martha and Jonathan inside the house.
He never imagined that it was because of him that Martha and Jonathan lost the child they had worked so hard to have.
With heavy footsteps on the floor, Clark dragged his weary body to the corner.
Looking at the broken mirror in the corner, countless small cracks reflected countless Clarkes.
He stared at the boy with the cold expression, and Clark involuntarily clenched his fist:
"It's all my fault!"
A profound sense of self-reproach washed over Clark like a tidal wave.
He reflected that from birth, he seemed to have been bringing misfortune and pain to those around him.
"Perhaps." Clark raised his head and looked up at the bright moon outside the window.
"My leaving is the best choice!"
....
"Your departure is the best choice."
Inside the cold, damp cave, countless eerie winds blew in through the cave walls, large and small, their howls echoing like those of evil spirits or ghosts, creating a terrifying and horrifying atmosphere.
Gino put away the Tesseract and stood up with a calm expression.
Those strange sounds did not frighten him in the slightest.
The golden orb within the wall recess had already melted away like ice and snow within the grand blue light curtain, completely announcing Jor El's death. The golden passage, deprived of its energy supply, slowly closed.
It was all over. Jor-El, along with his ambition to unify the Earth, was destroyed by the violent energy bombardment of the Cosmic Cube.
"What should we do next?"
Gino rubbed his forehead, deep in thought.
"Never mind, let's go check out Clark's place."
With a light leap, the boy's tall figure, as light as a feather, flew out of the cave entrance and headed towards Kent Farm.
....
late at night.
The house where the Kents lived not far away was lit with orange lights.
Carrying some gifts for the visitor, Gino walked through the Kent farm.
Several cows mooed through the fence, sounding rather unwelcoming of Gino's arrival.
Gino glanced casually at the plump cows that Clark had been tending to, then headed toward the house where the Kents lived.
"Who's there?"
Hearing the farm animals' alarm, Jonathan once again grabbed his shotgun and rushed out of the farm.
"Mr. Jonathan, don't be nervous, it's me, Gino Luther."
Gino held up the gift in his hand to indicate that he meant no harm.
"Gino?!"
In the darkness, when Jonathan saw the boy who had disappeared for so long and then reappeared, his face was full of astonishment: "You, you're back?"
He had many questions for Gino, but didn't know where to begin.
Jonathan, barely suppressing his anxiety, asked, "Is Clark with you?"
"When we were together before, we were caught in a conspiracy by his biological father and exiled to a strange planet." Gino told the middle-aged man some things he could tell Jonathan.
Hearing Gino's words, Jonathan suddenly understood, and at the same time, a feeling of hope began to rise within him: "Where's Clark? Did he come back with you?"
"Clark? He came back with me about thirty minutes ago." Gino frowned, somewhat curious about Clark's whereabouts.
Logically speaking, Jor El is dead, and the entity that could control Clark has been eliminated. That's why the kid didn't go with his adoptive parents the moment he returned.
"Could it be that he went to find Lana?"
Hearing Gino's question, Jonathan shook his head: "No, Lana knows Clark is missing. If he went to Lana's house, the girl would call me and Martha."
"I don't know, I just came to see you and Martha." Gino handed the gift to Jonathan.
Gino didn't take Clark's disappearance to heart. Joe Al was dead, and no one could threaten Clark. Considering the news of Martha's miscarriage, he guessed that Clark might have heard about it.
Considering Clark's tendency to take all the blame, perhaps he believed that Martha's loss of the child was his fault.
Gino patted Jonathan on the shoulder reassuringly: "Give him some time, maybe he'll be back soon."
After saying that, he turned and left, leaving Jonathan and Martha, both looking sad, on the farm.
"Clark".
Martha was deeply worried; where had her child gone?
"Jonathan," she pleaded, tilting her head back, "please, you must find Clark. I've already lost one child, I can't lose Clark too!"
