Chapter 151 Lex's Request
Chapter 151 Lex's Request
early morning.
Lex picked up the bread and put it in his mouth to chew.
"But I'm still curious." Lex tapped the table lightly with his other hand, his face ashen. "Why would Wayne Enterprises suddenly sign that land deal?"
Like many intelligent people, Lex was suspicious of Wayne Corporation's sudden move into the town.
Lai Tu glanced at his brother, pondered for a moment, and said, "Gino, if you have time, I hope you can go there and take a look for me."
"A piece of land that Bruce Wayne values must have something special about it."
Gino shrugged, saying nonchalantly, "If you insist, I'll go take a look tomorrow."
"As for now, I plan to go back to the castle and get a good night's sleep; I'm just too tired."
Gino stood up, yawning as he walked out of the base.
He hadn't had milk in a long time and was starting to crave it.
It's another morning.
"Gurgle~"
After finishing his bag of milk, Clark walked down the Smallville High School corridor and complained to Gino, "God, you disappeared for a week without a word, and everyone was really worried about you."
"It's my fault. I'll let you know next time I go on a long trip." Gino grinned and tossed Clark a bag of milk.
The two walked side by side into the campus newspaper office.
Lana and Chloe were busy tidying up the newspaper office's clutter.
"Good morning, is there anything I can help you with?" Clark, with a milk bag in his mouth, stepped forward to help Lana.
Not far away, Chloe watched Clark, who was helping Lana, and then glanced at Gino, who was standing at the door reading a newspaper on the table. A hint of disappointment flashed in the girl's eyes.
"Hmm, Wayne Enterprises employees claim they were attacked by werewolves last night?" Gino stared at the headline on this morning's newspaper, frowning slightly.
Are there werewolves in this small town?
"That's right, the employee claimed the werewolf bit his arm and then escaped into the forest." Chloe stood up, snatched the newspaper from Gino's hand, pointed to the front page, and said, "I'm planning to go see it after school. Anyone want to come with me?"
Lana was the first to speak up: "I'm fine with it."
As she spoke, the girl glanced at Clark, who paused for a moment, then scratched his head and said, "Oh right, I'm fine with that too."
The young man looked at Gino with a shy smile: "Gino, want to come along?"
"Okay." Gino shrugged, his gaze sweeping over the picture of the panicked man on the front page of the newspaper.
Werewolf?
They seem to be quite good experimental materials, don't they?
Time always flies. When the bell rang after school, the group of four got into Clark's red SUV.
As the team's know-it-all, Chloe pulled out a map from her backpack and pointed out the route: "Hmm, according to the map, there's a forest path in the back mountains that can help us bypass Wayne Group's guards and sneak into the construction site."
"But in that case, we might have to park at the foot of the mountain." Clark looked at the two women with some concern through the rearview mirror: "Can you handle the fatigue of climbing the mountain?"
"Of course!" Lana puffed out her chest, glaring at Clark with dissatisfaction. "Girls can do what you can do too!"
"Oh."
Gino chuckled softly, glancing at Lana and Chloe, who both looked confident, and secretly smiled to himself.
He didn't think the two girls were capable of enduring the tedium and boredom of mountain climbing.
"Buzz~"
The engine roared as it propelled the off-road wheels across the road, sending autumn leaves flying in a flurry.
The foot of the mountain in the distance was also faintly visible.
The afterglow of the setting sun shone on the hillside, as if coating the grassland with a layer of gold dust.
On the hillside, Clark and Gino walked side by side.
The young man said with a bitter face, "Now I finally understand why you sneered back then."
Just as Gino had guessed, Lana and Chloe were unable to climb the entire hillside and ultimately chose to wait for the two inside the car.
"We've arrived." Gino patted Clark on the shoulder.
Standing atop the mountain, one can look down at the basin and valley below.
Many heavy construction equipment are parked in this valley, and the Wayne Group's large sign stands on the land.
The site was surrounded by barbed wire, clearly indicating that the person in charge of the construction was annoyed by the Native Americans.
Clark glanced down at the valley below and touched his nose. "There's no one inside. It seems the police have temporarily shut down the construction site."
"Moreover, there seems to be something underground to the west."
Gino followed the gaze that Clark was pointing at.
Beneath the earth's strata lies a massive underground cavern.
"This might be the real reason why the Wayne Group is mining here!"
Clark was somewhat excited, as if he had guessed the truth about Wayne Enterprises.
The two walked down the hillside and jumped over the towering barbed wire fence.
"The soil layer isn't too hard."
Gino clenched his fist and slammed it down on the ground beneath his feet.
"Bang!"
The earth seemed to be groaning, the ground trembled and the soil churned.
With a loud "boom," the already soft ground cracked and broke apart, and the sunken soil rolled into the cave.
"Cough cough." Clark waved his hand to fan himself, trying to blow away the dust from the tip of his nose.
As the smoke and dust dissipated, a dark, gaping hole came into view.
"Let's go."
Gino, undaunted, was the first to jump into the hole.
"Hoo hoo~"
The inertia from the rapid descent caused the body to rub against the air, sounding like the wailing of ghosts and gods exploding in the ears.
The distance of tens of meters passed in the blink of an eye. Just as he was about to hit the ground, Gino activated his bio-field and landed steadily.
"Aaaaaah!"
Clark's scream rang out overhead, and Gino, expressionless, stepped to the left to make way.
then
"Bang!"
Clark, having lost control of his body, landed on all fours, smashing through the soil and rocks.
Clark scrambled to his feet, looking rather disheveled, and gave a wry smile as he looked at his friend who was trying to suppress a smirk: "To be honest, I still don't understand how you can fly."
After the Byron incident, Clark remembered Gino’s heroic flight that day.
This greatly motivated Clark. After returning home, he secretly began learning to fly behind his family's back.
However, the results were minimal, far less effective than Ginobili's ability to hang in mid-air so easily.
"Business is important. I can teach you when I have time." Gino shook his head, his eyes glowing red, and picked up a dry branch from the ground and lit it.
The orange flames dispelled the darkness, and the intense light illuminated the entire underground cavern.
Black stone pillars stand tall, with strangely shaped stalactites hanging overhead.
What's even more intriguing are the patterns painted with colored pigments on the cave walls.
"What are those things?"
Clark stared wide-eyed, finding it hard to believe what he was seeing.
The cave is covered with ancient murals in almost every usable area.
It's like how ancient people used simple murals to record hunting scenes.
The historical information contained in these simple murals piqued Clark's deep interest: "If Chloe knew there were so many murals here, she would definitely regret not coming."
Clark's gaze swept over the murals covering the walls, and he looked at his friend with great interest: "What do you think these murals represent?"
In the dim light, Gino’s handsome profile was faintly visible as he spoke in a low voice, “Perhaps it has something to do with your origins, Clark.”
I finally figured out the recent plot developments in my head, and I feel much more relaxed.
