Chapter 440 Personal Feud

According to Miriam's account, Murphy saved her from being burned to death when she was five years old.

But of course, Murphy still has no recollection of this.

Murphy is almost used to time travel, but he always feels like he's paying off a debt to his future self.

Murphy then inquired about the current state of the world, and what Merlin and the dragon in the abyss were all about.

"Merlin is actually just a title," Miriam said, "It represents the leader of the Order of Merlin. And the Order of Merlin has existed for a very long time, said to be at least one or two hundred years. The Merlin you see is the current leader of the Order of Merlin."

"The Order of Merlin is a wizarding organization that was originally established to protect wizards and Muggles from the oppression of the gods."

"But this generation of Merlin seems to have sided with the gods," Miriam said. "Although he maintains a relatively neutral stance on the surface, claiming to the members of the jazz corps that he is protecting us from angering the gods and causing greater disaster, I have discovered that he is actually carrying out a plan for some god."

It's perfectly normal for traitors to appear in an organization that's been around for over a century, so Murphy wasn't surprised. "What plan?"

"That dragon is named Nidhogg, and it was once an evil god worshipped by the Vikings in Finland and Norway. But for some reason, it was trapped in the depths of Camelot. The Merlin Order itself does not have such power, so there must be some powerful deity supporting it behind the scenes."

"In recent years, there has been a constant conflict between Christians and native British faiths, and I suspect that Merlin has become an agent used by Christ to deal with native deities."

"It is said that Nidhogg will bring endless destruction and disaster. Perhaps Merlin and the gods behind him intend to use it to fight against the native gods, and then let Christ God reap the benefits."

Murphy nodded. The legendary King Arthur was also a Christian, and from a faith perspective, he might also be a pawn of God.

Murphy had little interest in matters of faith or power struggles between gods.

His enemy is all the gods, not just any one god. Participating in such wars can only cause the gods' power to fluctuate, but cannot eliminate the entire divine group at its root.

“Mirion, you already know I come from the future, so you probably also know why I’m here,” Murphy said. “I’m seeking a way to expel the gods from the world in my time. Do you know how that was done? And who did it, and when? Has Sophia told you anything about this?”

Sofia said that she would understand everything once she met Miriam, so perhaps the other party has the answers she needs?

Miriam was silent for a moment, then looked at Murphy and said, "Lord Murphy, as far as I know, the one who banished the gods might be yourself."

Murphy was taken aback. "Me?"

I went through all that trouble to travel from the future back to the past in order to find a way to expel the gods, but it turns out I did it all myself.

"How do I do it?" Murphy asked, frowning. "What did Sophia tell you?"

“Sophia didn’t know, and I don’t know what method you used,” Miriam said. “You didn’t involve anyone else in that plan because the gods are almost everywhere. They can obtain information through the eyes and ears of their followers. The whole world is full of the gods’ eyes and ears. Anyone who leaves a trace in this world will be known by the gods.”

"Only you come from outside of time. You do not exist in this world. Therefore, you are invisible to the gods. And to prevent the plan from being revealed, you have not told anyone about your actions."

"All I can tell you is the fact that you accomplished this."

……

Murphy sat on the hillside, gazing at the distant mountains and the large lake below.

The hillside is covered with jagged rocks and overgrown weeds. In the distance, the lake glistens, and occasionally a flock of birds flies by, chirping. A gentle breeze blows, and the world is utterly peaceful.

This is the lake area. In the future, there will be a village on the lake below, and docks and boat docks will be built around the lake shore. But at this moment, no one has ever lived here. The whole world belongs to him alone.

In the silence, Murphy began to ponder Miriam's words.

The possibility of the other party lying is very small. In fact, after reading Godric Gryffindor's memories, Murphy discovered that in this world, wizards seem to have taken the existence of gods for granted.

The Order of Merlin is already the largest wizarding organization known in Gryffindor, but it still has no intention of rebelling against the gods. Its initial establishment was merely to protect itself from the oppression of the gods.

If even these top wizards are unwilling to confront the gods, then who else could possibly succeed in banishing them?

I had originally thought I could have a ready-made sample as a reference, but now it seems that I will have to solve this problem myself in the end.

But what method should be used to fight against those gods?

The dragon in the abyss beneath Camelot possessed a vast and surging magical power, like a boundless ocean, many times stronger than the gods like Tyr and Odin that Murphy had encountered in the future. And yet, such a god was still imprisoned. Even the Christ God who imprisoned it was merely the most powerful among the gods. The sheer amount of power that the gods as a whole possessed and could control made Murphy feel almost suffocated, even with just a simple calculation.

How could he possibly contend with such a force on his own, without the aid of modern weaponry?

For a moment, Murphy felt that going back to the past seemed pointless.

He has always relied on the amplification effect of technology in analyzing magic. Technology has expanded the boundaries of magic and deepened the scale of its effects, which is why he has been able to obtain power far exceeding that of ordinary wizards.

Such power will only be effective in the context of a future high-tech environment.

Perhaps he shouldn't go back to the past, but should cross into the future. After all, the past is the territory ruled by the gods, and only the future can belong to him. Maybe the method he is searching for is in the future.

No, that's not right.

Time is not such a simple thing. In four-dimensional spacetime, the future is a wave function that has not yet collapsed. There is no way to jump directly to the future without going through a continuous path.

Moreover, even if such a method truly existed, it would merely be an escape from difficulties, just as his return to the past was an attempt to shift the solution to the problem to people in the past or future.

But that won't work.

Miriam had made it clear to him that she was the one who had banished the gods.

Whether in the past or the future, ultimately, he will have to solve this problem himself.

Because this was his inherent predicament.

Whether or not a deity exists is not important to others; what matters most is that the path they seek is incompatible with that of a deity.

This is his destiny, unrelated to the overall fate of humanity; it is his personal, individual struggle.

This was his personal feud with God.

Since it's a personal grudge, it's naturally impossible to involve others.

"call……"

Murphy sighed and stood up.

A gentle breeze stirred his robes, and his gaze, fixed on the distant horizon, gradually sharpened.

"If this is something only I can do, then I must have something special about me."

"Milian also said that in this world, I am the only visitor from outside of time."

"My special quality may lie in time."

"The gods of today are incredibly powerful, but what about the original gods?"

"Perhaps I should look back further in time."
