Hogwarts: From Selling White Peppers to Becoming a God
Chapter 439 Reincarnation
Chapter 439 Reincarnation
On a hillside in Cornwall.
Miriam was calming down the prisoners Murphy had brought with him using lightning ravens when Murphy reappeared via lightning teleportation and came before Miriam.
She looked exactly like Sofia, except that she was very weak and haggard due to being imprisoned for so long.
Murphy gazed at her from afar, momentarily unable to distinguish her from Sophia. He even had a strange feeling that if the Queen had disappeared in the future, could she have also crossed a thousand years to arrive at this moment?
And this so-called Miriam is just another name she gave herself?
Miriam bandaged the wounds of the two prisoners who had been stabbed by spears. Turning her head, she saw Murphy, and her eyes suddenly lit up. "You really have appeared again, Lord Murphy."
Murphy approached her. "You know me?"
"Although you don't remember now, you saved my life in the past, and I've learned a lot about your deeds from Sophia."
"Sophia?" Murphy frowned. "What's going on? What do you know?"
"It's a long story," Millie paused, "Let's go to a safe place first. I have a small cabin nearby."
Before that, Miriam first had Murphy take the prisoners to a nearby inhabited village, and then pointed out the direction to Murphy, who then cast a flight spell on the two of them. Soon after, they arrived at the cabin located next to a forest.
"This is where my grandfather originally left behind," Miriam said. "He was a hunter, and I grew up with him when I was little. After my grandfather passed away, I left, and no one else knows about this place."
Miriam pushed open the door of the old wooden house, which seemed to have been abandoned for a long time. A musty smell filled the air. Miriam chanted a long incantation, then waved her hands. A breeze swept away the dust and cobwebs in the house, and even put all the utensils aside.
Murphy watched as the other person cast the spell. This was not the "Cleanse" spell he was familiar with. The incantation used seemed to be some kind of ancient rune language, long and complicated, but it was able to mobilize the wizard's own magic and organize it into a form that operated according to certain rules.
"Who taught you this spell?" Murphy asked.
"Merlin, although he is an opportunist, does indeed possess extraordinary magical talent," Miriam said. "It is said that such spells originally came from the gods, who taught wizards magic."
Murphy frowned, recalling what Salazar had said at the edge of the abyss about wizards being children of gods. "Magic comes from gods?"
"At least that's what God says," Miriam said.
Murphy pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "No, that's unlikely. If the gods are the source of magic, then their return wouldn't require an increase in magical power. Magic is the cause, and the gods are the effect; it can only be that way, not the other way around. They're lying."
Miriam listened quietly and nodded. "Sophia said the same thing. She said you have proven that it was humans who created the gods, not the other way around."
Murphy frowned. He hadn't proven this, so why would Sophia say that?
But more importantly, "What exactly is your relationship with Sofia?"
"It seems we're out of firewood. Let's go find some."
Murphy remained noncommittal and followed Miriam out the door. The two gathered some branches at the edge of the forest, and then Murphy used magic to cut down a few dead trees and carried them to the front of the cabin. Miriam found an axe somewhere, sharpened it on a stone for a while, and then began to chop wood.
She clearly hadn't done this job in a long time; with one swing of the axe, only a small piece of the log was split open, and the axe became embedded in the stake. She tried her best, but couldn't pull it out.
Seeing her panting, Murphy stepped forward and took the axe from her. "You're too weak. Let me do it."
With a gentle lift of his hand, Murphy pulled the axe out of the log, and with another light swing, split the log in two symmetrical halves, the cross-sections as neat as if they had been sawn.
Without the constraints of the magic net, the magic became even freer. Murphy felt he could easily imbue his body and axe with magic, not only enhancing his physical strength but also making the axe sharper.
"Enchantment..." Murphy pondered. Although it is not as precise and stable as runes or enchanting rituals, it consumes more magic power and the enchanting effect is much worse, but its ease of operation is far superior to future enchanting methods.
Wizards of this era could manipulate magic more freely than those under the magic net, and it was not surprising that gods, who possessed magic far more powerful than ordinary wizards, could use it to create magic comparable to "making a wish".
"Sophia comes from the distant future. She can enter my body and control my body in my sleep, across thousands of years," Miriam suddenly said.
Murphy was taken aback, remembering that the Queen had told him that it wasn't Miriam possessing her, but rather that she was possessing the other.
Lady Jaga also said that the Queen often had dreams in which she entered the lives of other people.
So that's what it meant.
Miriam sat on a fallen tree trunk. "She told me that we are one, that she is me and I am her. Her soul was lost in the spirit world and somehow returned to a thousand years ago, where it was reborn as me. And I will create her with my own soul someday in the future."
"The same soul?" Murphy was stunned. He had thought that the two of them only had a strong blood connection, but he did not expect that they were actually the same soul.
It's just that because they are reincarnated, their memories are not the same.
This is not surprising, as the Horcrux and the original body can be seen as two people from the same soul.
"How did she know that?" Murphy asked. "And how did she tell you?"
"I don't know how Sophia knows this, but when she takes over my body, I lose all awareness of the outside world, so she usually communicates with me by leaving behind diaries or something similar," Miriam said.
"From what you're saying, Sophia possessing your body has happened more than once? When was the first time?"
"She was probably five years old," Miriam recalled that moment more than twenty years ago. "At that time, she foresaw... oh no, it should be that she learned in our later conversations that I would be in danger, so she wrote a lot of words on the wall to remind me to leave that house as soon as possible."
"Wait a minute..." Murphy interrupted, "You said she learned about your past dangers during their later conversations... which means Sophia's timeline of entering your body wasn't sequential?"
"Yes, for me, when Sophia first came into my body, she had actually seen me several times in the future. The future me told her some things that I had experienced, so she was like a prophet who could know my future."
"Although I am called a prophet, my talent for prophecy is no greater than that of the true prophets. The most important prophecies I have made are actually things that I will experience in the future, which I conveyed to my past self through Sophia."
"..."
Murphy fell silent for a moment; so this was how prophets were born.
"You said there would be danger, what kind of danger? What happened next?"
"It's somewhat laughable, but the cause of the danger might very well be Sophia's time travel."
"The words she wrote on the wall to get me out of danger terrified my parents. I was only five years old then and hadn't learned to read yet. Sophia was probably too eager and didn't realize it. Anyway... my parents thought I was crazy. They were Christians and didn't know much about magic. The words on the wall looked like the work of someone possessed by a demon. So they called an exorcist."
"The priest used holy water and a cross, and recited scriptures to me all day, but it didn't work. So the priest concluded that the demon inside me must be very deeply hidden, and he thought that Christ needed to come down to scare the demon away. The way to invite God was to nail my hands to a cross, so that I would have stigmata and be able to receive the Holy Spirit."
Murphy frowned. Christ God should be a real person in this era, yet his followers still act in this way.
Is it that God is unable to control them, or that He simply does not want to control them?
"I was terrified. Just as the nail was about to pierce my palm, I suddenly felt a force. I pushed the priest, and he was pushed dozens of meters away, crashing into a tree and dying."
"Later I learned that I had become a witch. But the people of the Church didn't think so. They believed that the demon inside me had awakened and had even killed a priest. So they sent knights who killed my parents because they helped the demon. The knights even burned down the entire village because they were afraid that the demon's plague had contaminated the whole village."
"Just when they were about to burn me alive, you appeared."
