Chapter 436 Merlin

King Arthur?

Many thoughts raced through Murphy's mind, but the first one that popped into his head was another question: If King Arthur is here, is Merlin also in this city?

Inside the crystal coffin behind the Gate of Rebirth, he found a prophecy that was supposedly left by Merlin—and it was exactly the same as the prophecy he had made up. He was very curious about it.

His original purpose for this trip was to meet the prophet Miriam, but given that he was able to make that prophecy, perhaps Merlin was also a prophet.

Moreover, according to the note behind the Gate of Rebirth, Merlin made that prophecy in 547 AD, and based on the information about Miriam that he had previously collected from various books in Alkaim, she also lived in a similar era.

There aren't many "prophets" in this world. If Miriam had lived in this era, Merlin might have heard of her.

The serf prostrate at his feet was clearly terrified. Murphy ignored him and went to the city gate.

Two armored guards, spears in hand, casually surveyed the crowd entering and leaving the city gates. Murphy, with his distinguished appearance and luxurious attire, immediately caught their attention. As he approached, one of the guards spoke to him, "Sir, how can I help you?"

"Is the Archmage Merlin in the city?" Murphy asked.

The guard nodded. "May I ask who you are?"

The legendary Merlin was indeed in this city. Murphy breathed a sigh of relief; he hadn't expected to encounter him so easily. He wasn't familiar with this era and didn't want to say much, simply looking at the guard and saying, "Take me to him!"

His voice was imbued with a magical, enchanting quality, and the guard was momentarily stunned before quickly saying, "So you're Lord Merlin's friend. I'll take you there right away."

Camelot is a fortified city built on a mountaintop, with its magnificent walls towering over cliffs, making it hard to imagine that it was built solely by human labor.

Murphy surveyed his surroundings and tried the mind network. Sure enough, there was no response. He could no longer sense the devices that gathered magical power. However, this was to be expected. Those things had already achieved their original purpose by supporting him through a thousand-year journey, so Murphy was not too disappointed.

It's just not certain whether Miriam is in this era. If not, he might have to find another source of magical energy for time travel. Fortunately, even if Miriam doesn't live in this time, she should be not far off in time, so he doesn't need a particularly high amount of magical energy to travel through time.

With these thoughts in mind, Murphy followed the guard around a ridge and into a small alley. Seeing no one around, Murphy pointed a finger at the back of the guard's head and said, "Touch and manipulate!"

Murphy is about to meet Merlin, who may be the most powerful wizard in history, but whether he is friend or foe is still unclear. Murphy plans to learn more about the world before meeting him, and Legilimency is the quickest way to do so.

"What did you say, sir?" The guard stopped in his tracks, turned around, and asked in confusion.

Murphy paused for a moment; the spell hadn't worked.

He had used the spell "Seize the Mind" hundreds of times, so it was impossible for him to make a mistake. However, the feeling just now was indeed wrong. A magical power flowed out from his fingertips, but he did not sense the feeling of being pulled or aroused by something that he had experienced before.

There is something in the world that I used to take for granted, but it has disappeared.

However, his magical voice still works.

"Fluorescent lights!"

No response.

Murphy frowned, raised his hand, and a bolt of lightning crackled and leaped into the air before dissipating.

The spell was ineffective, but his magical abilities remained completely unaffected.

The problem lies with the magic network.

"A wizard..." The guard stared at Murphy in astonishment. "You're a wizard?"

Murphy thought for a moment, then extended his index finger again and aimed it at the guard. This time, he didn't chant the spell, but instead imagined a scene in his mind, constructing a path for the magic to take effect. Immediately, a beam of light shot out from his fingertip and struck the guard.

The magic immediately invaded the other person's brain, hindering the function of his hippocampus and disturbing his frontal lobe, preventing him from forming memories of the past ten seconds.

The guard paused for a second, then turned around nonchalantly. "Please stay close to me, sir. There are thieves lurking in this area."

Murphy followed, a realization dawning on him.

Here, there is no magic network, and magic seems to have returned to an extremely primitive state, akin to making a wish. It no longer relies on incantations to take effect, but rather regulates the operation of magic through imagination—just like those gods.

The magic network was not formed naturally, a fact known from the research on the Bureau of Mysteries, but the researchers had no clue as to when it was established or by whom.

They originally thought that the magic network might have existed for tens of thousands of years, but now it seems that it is much younger than they imagined.

Is it possible that someone in the present day built the magic network? Like Merlin?

After all, Merlin is essentially the god of wizards, and if you were to ask who could create a magic network, Murphy would immediately think of him.

Thinking about this, Murphy couldn't help but feel a little excited.

The god of wizards—perhaps he possesses a method to deal with the gods.

Perhaps this is the reason I came here?

The guards led Murphy into the castle, where he met the legendary wizard in a tower.

Unlike the chocolate picture or the old man Murphy had imagined, Merlin looked to be only in his forties or fifties, with a serious and even somewhat heroic face. He didn't look like a wizard, but rather more like a general.

However, he wore a wide blue robe embroidered with gold stars, a headband inlaid with more than ten gems, and a strangely shaped staff standing next to his desk. The huge crystal at the top of the staff shone with a deep blue color, which fully indicated that he was a magician.

In the magical vision, the pale purple magical level indicates that the other party is at least a magical master like Dumbledore.

"Grand Master Merlin." Murphy stepped forward and bowed slightly.

Merlin was also looking at him, a look of realization crossing his face. "You're a wizard too? The guard said someone wanted to see me, but didn't reveal who it was. I was wondering who could get a guard to lead the way without revealing their identity, now I see."

"I have no legitimate status here and have had to resort to this tactic. Please forgive me," Murphy said. "Murphy Darkholm. It's an honor to meet you, Archmage Merlin."

Merlin stared at him with his brown eyes, then nodded slightly. "Please sit, Master Murphy. May I ask what brings you here?"

Murphy had been watching the other man's expression closely. Seeing that he didn't react much when he heard his name, he was a little disappointed. However, he still took out a piece of paper and handed it to Merlin.

"Did you make this prophecy?"
