Chapter 86 Escape

"Everyone, run!"

Without even looking at what was coming towards them, Prefect Gemma called out to the young wizards. She herself was carrying a jar containing a bird-snake, and with her wand guiding several young wizards floating in the air, she ran behind the crowd.

The students pulled and supported each other as they ran towards the end of the corridor. Perhaps the successful resolution of the bird snake gave them some confidence; although they were still flustered, they were not as terrified as they had been at the beginning.

Another long, ferocious roar came from behind, accompanied by the terrifying panting of a massive creature; its savagery sent chills down everyone's spine. Several girls began to sob softly, and almost everyone felt their legs trembling.

Two legs can never outrun four. By the time the group reached the end of the corridor, the terrifying monster was already right there in front of them.

As Irving ran away, he glanced back and, even with his composure, cursed under his breath.

The enormous animal that was relentlessly pursuing them almost filled the entire corridor. It had the head of a lion and the body of a goat, and its powerful, swaying tail resembled that of a fire-breathing dragon, sweeping terrible cracks into the sculptures and paintings on both sides of the corridor. The figures in the paintings screamed and fled into other paintings, shoving and jostling each other as they ran for their lives with the young wizards.

"Chimeras!" Owen's face turned ashen. "Is Voldemort going to indiscriminately wipe out Hogwarts?"

Although this Chimera is clearly still a minor based on its size, it is nonetheless a Level 5X magical creature, notoriously violent and bloodthirsty, and extremely dangerous. Most importantly, this creature enjoys attacking and killing humans; a Chimera doesn't need a reason to kill!

The Chimera behind them was clearly not in a good state; it looked even more frenzied and brutal, its blood-red eyes fixed on the young wizards in front of it, filled with hatred.

With just a glance back, Owen memorized many details. He noticed that the chimera's four legs were clad in heavy black shackles, which slowed it down. The shackles were ingrained in its flesh, and blood seeped from the gaps with every movement, dripping onto the floor.

Perhaps this chimera was shackled and imprisoned in a small cage right after hatching from its egg, and probably suffered a lot of abuse, which is why it looks so small. But no matter how small it is, it's still big enough to bite off half a person's body in one bite!

"What should we do?" Daphne, who was standing to the side, also recognized the monster behind them. She bit her pale lips tightly and watched the Chimera Beast get closer and closer. For the first time, panic appeared in her azure eyes.

At that moment, a ball of flame spewed from the mouth of the Chimera Beast. The roaring flames swept across half the corridor and instantly rushed towards the young wizards, surging like a tsunami and giving them a great sense of oppression.

"Protect the Armor!" Owen flicked his wand behind him, and several upperclassmen cast the spell just in time. Seven or eight armor spells appeared behind them, forming invisible barriers that successfully blocked the incoming flames.

The Ironclad Curse's barrier and the flames vanished simultaneously, and the resulting shock caused many students to fall forward and roll several times on the ground.

Owen frowned and glanced back at the Chimera beast that seemed determined to kill them. He mentally reviewed the spells he knew and helplessly realized that apart from dark magic, the other spells seemed to be of little use.

These dangerous and powerful magical creatures have high magical resistance. Offensive spells like the Explosion Spell may not be able to harm them at all, and there is a high probability that they will be reflected back and hurt their own people.

Of the magic Owen possessed, only the Dark Guardian and the Killing Curse should be effective. The Dark Guardian, being a cutting-edge form of dark magic, should be able to entangle it, and as for the Killing Curse, casting several should be enough to severely injure it even if it didn't kill it... But this was Hogwarts, and he couldn't use them.

After once again joining forces with the older students to block another wave of fiery attacks, Owen suddenly raised and lowered his wand, his slightly lowered eyes filled with murderous intent. The moment he conceived the idea of using the Killing Curse, a strong killing intent naturally welled up within him, but fortunately, he rationally suppressed this impulse.

"Shout for help," he said after a pause, glancing at Harry. "Especially you, Harry, shout it from the top of your lungs!"

If Harry Potter screams for help at Hogwarts, there's a very high chance he'll summon Dumbledore, Fawkes the Phoenix, or Snape. Yes, that's definitely true.

"Huh?" Harry exclaimed blankly, looking at Owen like a dumbfounded goose.

Owen, his attention focused on the rapidly closing chimera, frantically cast Iron Skin Charms behind him. He urged Harry on while yelling to Gemma, "Gemma, give me the harpy!"

"Oh..." Gemma, completely disoriented, tossed the jar in her hand to Owen, but it went way off course.

Owen waved his wand, pulling the jar to his side. He unscrewed the lid and pointed the open mouth at everyone's backs. A tiny, blue-purple bird-snake gracefully flew out of the jar, rushing in the opposite direction from where everyone was running. Its body inflated as it flew through the air, instantly filling the corridor.

The enormous body blocked the corridor, also keeping the approaching flames and chimeras at bay. The young wizards ran frantically toward the common room, wishing they had two more legs, shouting for help as they went.

"Help...help me..." Harry stammered, his face flushed. But as the cries for help from the other young wizards rose and fell, he gradually gave up and raised his voice: "Help!"

The bird-snake behind them bought the group some time, but soon the cowardly bird-snake turned around and chased after the group, its bright blue-purple feathers burned off in large patches by the flames. It then embarked on a journey of escape with the young wizards.

Soon, the bird-snake realized that its massive body was being burned by the flames coming from behind. It cried out in pain, then slunk away and scurried into the jar in Owen's hand, refusing to come out.

"Armor for protection!"

Owen had no choice but to continue casting the Ironclad Charm behind him, while at the same time he heard the cries of the young wizards in front of him, filled with sobs and grievances, as well as the joy of surviving a disaster.

A dark figure stood at the corner of the corridor ahead, with greasy hair, a sallow face, and a gloomy expression—it was Professor Snape. But to the many young wizards, the Headmaster at that moment seemed like a glittering angel with snow-white wings, come to save them from their predicament.

"Being chased like a stray dog and running for your life shows some self-awareness, but crying and whining like a coward... I find it hard to imagine that this is my student." Snape glanced at the crowd with indifference and disdain.

"Professor, you don't know what that is..." Gemma's eyes glistened with tears. Her face was blackened by the smoke, and her chestnut hair was curled from the heat.

Snape impatiently urged the young wizards around the corner, then stepped towards the direction the crowd was coming from, saying slowly, "Whatever that is..."

Then, he saw the ferocious-looking Chimera Beast, and after a moment of stiffness, he said in a calm tone, "Well, let's keep running for our lives."
