Chapter 90 Time Paradox

The famous grandmother paradox states the following:

If you went back in time and killed your grandparents before your father was born, this action would create a contradiction: if you went back in time and killed your young grandmother, there would be no father, and without a father, there would be no you. So who killed your grandmother?

Or you could say: your existence proves that your grandmother did not die because of you, so why did you kill her?

Tywin almost encountered this problem when using the Time-Turner; he was unknowingly attacked by himself and seriously injured.

Tywin, having traveled back in time, clearly hadn't grasped the complex relationships involved. He only saw himself coming towards him and assumed that was the attacker, so he raised his wand first.

But that was actually my original self.

If Tywin Lannister were still alive, he would probably look up to the sky and roar, "Who killed me, and whom did I kill?"

William sat in his office chair, continuing to analyze the entire incident.

After Tywin attacked "himself," there was no one to stop him. He went to the Ravenclaw common room, killed Robert, and took the door knocker.

By this time, he had already fought "himself" three times and had suffered considerable injuries.

He drank the prepared Polyjuice Potion, transformed into Professor Snape, and went to the medicine pantry.

"Why does he want to look like Snape?" a headmaster in the picture frame asked.

William recognized him as Armando Dippert, the previous headmaster.

"It's simple. Tywin fought 'Snape' in the fifth-floor corridor. He didn't know it wasn't Snape, but that doesn't stop him from making that assumption."

Since a battle has taken place, Snape will definitely go to the Headmaster's office to find Professor Dumbledore, and the medicine storage room will be empty.

So he drank the Polyjuice Potion he had prepared beforehand, transforming into Snape's appearance, intending to obtain some healing potions and then use this appearance to escape the school with the door knocker.

But to his surprise, Professor Snape was in the medicine pantry, and the two began to fight.

This was also the first memory William saw from Dumbledore.

Snape recalled that a man who looked exactly like him tried to break into the medicine storeroom, and the two fought.

Tywin was seriously injured and no match for Snape. Unexpectedly, he was struck in the chest by dark magic, but escaped again. Snape rushed to Ravenclaw to check on him and discovered Robert's death.

William stirred the Pensieve, which revealed the scene of Tywin and Snape fighting in the fifth-floor corridor.

"This is Tywin's fifth injury. He found himself trapped in a time loop and tried to hide in the Room of Requirement, but Fulwei was hiding inside."

"Professor, that's the whole process. Where is there a problem with what I said?"

Dumbledore clapped, and not only him, but all the headmasters in the picture frame clapped as well.

The only one who didn't clap was Phineas Black, who snorted and called Tywin a fool.

"William, you are even better than I thought. I thought you would never discover the connection and would come back to me. You truly are a Ravenclaw," Dumbledore praised.

"No, I thought about it for a long time. If it were you, you would have noticed the problem at a glance," William said modestly.

"You flatter me too much. I am not omnipotent. Many people possess wisdom that I do not have."

Thankfully, there were no outsiders here. I haven't blushed this much since Professor McGonagall praised my nobility.

"Professor, I have a question."

"What?"

"Since Tywin already has the Time-Turner, why would he bother searching for the Ravenclaw Ring for some vague legend?"

"Couldn't we just use a time converter to travel back in time?"

Dumbledore shook his head. "You really think so?"

"Isn't that right?"

"I imagine you've repeatedly read this sentence while researching the time converter, haven't you?"

"Abuse is prohibited!"

"That's right." Dumbledore crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair.

"Based on current research findings, the longest possible time to rewind without causing serious impact on travelers or time itself is approximately five hours, and each time period cannot be used more than twice."

All attempts to return to times more than a few hours earlier had disastrous consequences for the wizards and witches involved.

For many years, it has been unclear why time travelers cannot survive journeys that span such long periods of time.

However, all these experiments were terminated in 1899, when Heloise Mintab was trapped in 1402 for five days.

Her body aged five centuries during the return journey, suffering irreparable damage, and she died shortly after being rescued at the St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Injuries.

Similarly, the five days she spent in the distant past severely disrupted the life trajectories of everyone she encountered, significantly impacting their lives and causing at least twenty-five of their descendants in the present day to disappear without ever being born.

"Finally, some dangerous signs emerged. In the days following Mrs. Mintab's return, time itself was disturbed due to the severe disruption of the rules of time."

She worked two consecutive days on Tuesday after her reappearance, and then four hours on Thursday.

The Ministry of Magic faced numerous troubles in its efforts to cover up the matter, which led to the creation of the strictest legal regulations and penalties ever imposed on time travel research.

"Even under the Ministry of Magic's control, the use of a very limited number of Time-Turners is subject to hundreds of laws."

"Although the danger is far less than traveling five centuries, going back five hours can still have serious consequences."

As Saul Krock stated, "The human mind cannot comprehend time, and therefore cannot comprehend the devastation that would result from attempting to break the rules of time."

William nodded after hearing Dumbledore's words.

Even though Tywin didn't go back five hours, but only forty minutes, and he only used the Time-Turner three times, it almost caused him to kill himself.

If he used the Time Turner to go back ten years, even more unpredictable things would happen, which is why he's searching for the Ravenclaw Ring!

After all, according to rumors, the Ravenclaw ring has no side effects when used for time travel.

William suddenly remembered something: the reason Tywin used the Time-Turner so many times was because Dumbledore went to the Ravenclaw common room without warning.

This triggered a series of avalanche-like accidents that followed Tywin!
