Chapter 71 The Great Dumbledore
Chapter 71 The Great Dumbledore (Third Update)
"Häagen-Dazs!"
Standing in the third-floor corridor, Dumbledore gave a command.
The monster suddenly came to life, jumped to the side, and the wall behind it split in two.
Behind the wall is a spiral staircase, slowly moving upwards, just like an escalator.
As soon as Dumbledore and William stepped onto the wall, they heard a loud crash behind them, and the wall slammed shut again.
They spun and rose higher and higher, like an elevator.
William felt that such a good thing should be made available to the whole school, instead of making students take the stairs and the principal take the elevator.
Soon, a gleaming oak door appeared before them, topped with a brass door knocker in the shape of a griffin.
William glanced at the door knocker a few more times; he had become somewhat sensitive to such things.
Pushing open the door and going inside, Professor Dumbledore took out a piece of parchment and began to write something.
William stood there alone, this was his first time in the principal's office, and he looked around.
It was a spacious, beautiful circular room filled with all sorts of funny little noises. On a table with long, slender legs, there were many strange and wonderful silver objects, spinning and emitting small puffs of smoke.
The walls are covered with portraits of the former male and female principals, all of them gently snoring in their respective frames.
There was also a huge table in the room with claw-shaped legs. On a shelf behind the table sat a tattered, wrinkled wizard's hat—the Sorting Hat.
Soon, Dumbledore finished writing and put the parchment into the fireplace. After a burst of flames, the parchment disappeared.
William knew that Dumbledore's letter was addressed to the Ministry of Magic; otherwise, Fudge and the others wouldn't have arrived so quickly.
After the principal finished doing all this, he stood up, looked at William, and without engaging in further conversation, said, "William, I still have some things to verify. You wait here for me and don't wander off."
"You can have lunch here. There are many books in the room; feel free to browse."
William nodded hastily.
Dumbledore strode out, and the wooden door closed again.
The school principals stopped pretending to be asleep and opened their eyes to scrutinize William.
They seemed to have been away from new faces for so long that everyone was excited and even left the photo frame to call the other principals back.
William felt uncomfortable being stared at by so many people, but thankfully there were still some familiar things in the room.
William quietly walked around the table, picked up the hat from the shelf, but instead of putting it on his head, he examined it carefully.
The hat was as dirty and messy as ever, as if it hadn't been washed in centuries.
At that moment, a small voice said, "You're still alive, William Stark?"
"I thought Snape had killed you a long time ago."
William's anger flared at the mention of this, and he smiled maliciously, "Thanks to you, I didn't die, but Professor Snape went to Azkaban."
"..."
"Oh, by the way, what about the little spider?" William asked.
The Sorting Hat asked warily, "What do you want?"
Before it could finish speaking, the little spider crawled out of the bouncy ball of yarn.
It appears to have just been sleeping.
"It's still there." William stared at the spider, puzzled. "That's strange. I remember giant eight-eyed spiders are quite large when they're first born, right?"
After nearly a year of study, William is no longer a newly enrolled primary school student; he knows a great deal.
The eggs of the giant eight-eyed spider are as big as golf balls; this spider in front of us is too small.
The Sorting Hat replied, "It's a mutant. It's too small and has been ostracized by its own kind. Poor little thing."
"Isn't this mutation a bit too outrageous?"
William has never met his parents. Two meters tall, and his son is a dwarf. This genetic mutation is just too illogical.
William's gaze towards the little spider immediately changed. He felt that either the wrong baby had been given to him, or the spider's father had been cheated on!
William glanced at the Sorting Hat, thinking of washing it while Dumbledore was away, but then he thought the atmosphere wasn't right and decided against it.
Anyway, he shouldn't wear this hat anymore; let the younger students handle the trouble.
Professor Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, stood on the golden perch by the door. It was as big as a swan, with dazzling crimson and gold feathers.
It wagged its long tail feathers and winked at William in a friendly manner. William swallowed hard; he had never eaten a Scottish longtail turkey before.
William put down his hat, walked to the window, and looked out. The crowd was already heading towards the castle. Cho, Cedric, and the twin brothers were looking around in the playground, searching for William.
William only left the Quidditch pitch and went back to his office after everyone had left the window.
Dumbledore hadn't returned yet, and waiting here was indeed boring, so William decided to follow Dumbledore's advice and read some books to pass the time.
Studying in the principal's office, that's certainly high-class enough.
William opened a side door and exclaimed in surprise. The room was filled with books, like a small library.
William walked straight toward the bookshelf labeled "Learning".
As we all know, folders named "learning" on computers usually contain less-than-ideal content. William felt that this bookshelf might contain the treasure he was looking for.
Okay, he clearly overthought it; these are indeed study-related books.
William casually flipped through a few books; they were spotless, without even a crease from being opened, as if they were brand new.
William shook his head. People who keep books in their offices are usually just putting on an act; they would never actually read them.
Tsk tsk, it seems even Headmaster Dumbledore isn't immune to the common practice.
Wait a minute, William glanced at the author and saw that it was Dumbledore.
Sorry to bother you!
William flipped through a few more books and found that they were all written by Dumbledore himself, or were books he had collaborated on with other famous wizards.
There are also some famous journals, such as Spellcraft Innovation and Potions Master, which contain a large number of Dumbledore's articles.
These magazines and journals are equivalent to SCI in the Muggle world.
For an ordinary person, publishing just one article would be a huge struggle, but Dumbledore started publishing from his fourth year of school and has published thousands of articles over the past hundred years!
Most importantly, he didn't just work in one field, but made achievements in almost all fields.
This is a true academic giant.
Dumbledore's current status is not solely due to his defeat of Grindelwald.
That was just a minor achievement among his many accomplishments.
Dumbledore is great because he promoted the development of the wizarding world in all aspects.
Whether in terms of peace or academia!
Without a doubt, this is the kind of wizard William wants to become.
