Chapter 45 Nick Fury's Trump Card

S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters, Tri-Wing Building, Director's Office.

"Carol, how's the preparation for your Smart Weapons Observation and Response Center going?"

Nick Fury smiled and asked the short-haired woman across from him who was holding an orange cat.

This was one of his few trustworthy friends, and also his wife Maria's best friend.

He was once an ace pilot in the military. After experiencing the Kree invasion together, he has been in charge of preparing a special department called Sky Sword Bureau to deal with aliens.

This is a rare opportunity for me to come back from my base in outer space to see him.

But the cat Carol was holding wasn't just any orange cat; it was a Flerken, one of the most dangerous alien creatures. The reason he lost his eye was because he was accidentally scratched by one of these Flerkens.

"Things are basically on track now. Maria told me you had some trouble a couple of years ago. Do you need my help?"

Carol stroked her pet Gugu's head, a hint of concern flashing in her eyes.

Nick Fury immediately waved his hand:

"It's a minor problem; I can handle it myself. You should focus your attention on the Sky Sword Bureau and the Skrulls. Our biggest enemy is those aliens whose civilization is far more advanced than ours."

In his mind, the problems of the earth were not big problems. Although mutants were powerful, they were only a small part. Most of them were not as good as his well-trained agents.

What truly unsettled him were those alien civilizations, especially the highly aggressive Kree.

Through the intelligence Maria gathered during her years living on the Kree homeworld of Hala, he deeply felt the power of the Kree civilization and the cruelty of the universe. The Kree had destroyed and conquered countless planets of similar civilization level as Earth.

In recent years, SHIELD has been frantically expanding its influence, hoping to make it the strongest force on Earth, and together with S.W.O.R.D., to prevent possible alien invasions in the future.

He never placed his hopes on those incompetent politicians, because all they cared about was money and profit; they were masters of infighting, but utterly useless when it came to getting things done.

"If you need help, feel free to ask me anytime. Gugu and Talos can both help you out."

After chatting with Nick Fury for a while, Carol left S.H.I.E.L.D. with her pet Goo Goo in her arms.

Shortly after Carol left, Hill walked in carrying a computer.

"Director, these are some images that were just taken by the satellite."

"It's him!"

The picture shows Stephen Hawking standing on a tree trunk, flying towards New York City.

Three years ago, during the battle, Nick Fury had already listed Hawking as a key figure to focus on, second only to Professor X and Magneto, and had been trying his best to gather intelligence about Hawking.

However, all that is known so far is that Hawking was adopted by a couple during the Sokovia War three years ago, and later came to New York to attend a mutant school.

Before that, due to the war, no other intelligence could be found.

Over the past three years, through his collaboration with the X-Men, he has gained a deeper understanding of mutant intelligence.

Sometimes, in order to gather intelligence, he even staged several crises to get help from the X-Men, all in order to collect more detailed information on every threatening mutant.

He wasn't bragging when he told Carol he could handle mutants; he genuinely thought it wouldn't be a big problem.
