Chapter 98 The Nightmare Butterfly's Cocoon

Chapter 98 The Nightmare Butterfly's Cocoon

Ada released the old madman and rushed over.

The man named Jayce turned around and said nonchalantly, "What's your rush? I'm just checking on Penny."

"You don't need to worry about Penny's affairs!"

Ada rushed forward, grabbed the other man by the collar, and pulled him over, his other fist hovering in the air, as if he was about to punch him at any moment.

Jayce neither dodged nor got angry, but chuckled and said, "You go out every day, leaving Penny locked up at home. I'm just trying to cheer her up so she won't get too bored by herself."

This time, Ada really wanted to throw a punch.

But he couldn't beat Jayce.

Thor, supporting the old madman, watched everything clearly from the side.

Jayce was disheveled, with tangled hair and beard, but his exposed arms were quite muscular.

Moreover, it was covered in scars, clearly indicating that the person had lived a life of constant danger.

Although Ada was quite strong, he immediately looked much shorter and thinner standing next to Jayce.

This is probably why Ada made a big show of it, but didn't actually dare to throw a punch.

Fortunately, seeing that Ada's eyes were red, Jayce chuckled and slapped Ada's hand away, saying, "Alright, I'll go, I'll go, okay?"

He left the sulking Ada on the spot, casually tugging at his collar as he walked past Saul and the old madman.

He glanced at Thor, who was dressed in shabby clothes, and rolled his eyes.

"The great philanthropist has brought people home again."

Thor's gaze followed Jayce as he left the courtyard before turning back.

Ada was now clinging to the window in the same manner Jayce had just done, talking to the person inside.

After a while, he turned around somewhat dejectedly and saw Saul still dragging the old madman to the gate of the courtyard.

Ada directed Saul to drag the old madman into the room closest to the door, while he went back to unlock the door and crawled back inside.

Saul dragged the old madman into his room and found it to be very dark.

The old madman's room was unfurnished; all the items were piled up haphazardly.

Saul looked around and placed the old madman on a mat with exposed straw stalks.

The old madman had given up struggling, muttered a few words about "savagery," and the "evil spirit" turned over and started snoring.

Thor stood still, not leaving immediately, and asked softly, "Are there barbarians here too?"

The old madman's only response was a deafening snoring sound.

Thor was certain that the old madman wasn't as crazy as he seemed, and that Captain Jeff probably had some idea as well.

If Nick hadn't also mentioned the barbarian that the old madman was talking about, Thor probably wouldn't have cared whether he was faking madness or not.

Thor looked back at the gate. There was no one else in the yard. Ada ran to his house to deliver something.

A slender black tentacle emerged from behind Thor's neck and gently tapped the old madman's back.

The tentacles slowly spread upwards along the old madman's spine, gently touching his neck.

The old madman seemed to have really fallen asleep; his snoring didn't change much, and his body's movements were very steady.

Little Algae returned to Thor's side and gently shook the tips of her tentacles.

This means that no evil spirits or vengeful spirits were found.

The algae are sensitive to the spirit bisore.

Thor needs to enter a semi-immersive meditative state to see any obvious spirits, while Little Algae can find even the smallest fragments of souls simply by relying on her instinct for food.

It seems that the old madman is not acting strangely for the time being.

Thor told the little algae to shrink back and then walked away from the old madman's house.

He walked into the courtyard, looked up, and saw a window in the house that Ada had just gone into, which was boarded up haphazardly.

Through the crack in the window, it seemed as if a pair of silver eyes were staring at him without blinking.

Thor stared into those eyes for a moment, and felt that those eyes were so cold and clear, like a spring in the forest.

But if you actually reach in, you'll find it's bottomless.

"Sol, come in quickly. If you stand there too long, people will think you're trying to steal something."

At this moment, Ada came out, having taken off her sweat-soaked shirt, and beckoned Thor over.

"Okay," Thor replied, but when he looked out the window again, he could no longer see those eyes.

He walked slowly toward the house where Ah Da was, a sense of anticipation rising in his heart.

The room was very simple, like Thor's dormitory, without any partitions. Inside, there was a large wooden bed, placed against the wall. Both ends were completely blocked off.

There was a cabinet against the wall on the bed, with several thumb-sized holes drilled in the cabinet door and side wall.

It's like a gap that was intentionally left out.

As Thor looked over, a silver eye suddenly appeared behind one of the holes.

The eye blinked and transformed into a dry, cracked lip.

Ada spread some weeds on the only low wooden table in the room, then unfolded a tattered garment and covered the weeds with it.

"It's getting dark, you can sleep here tonight. Don't wander around after dark."

"Oh, right," Ada turned and called to the cabinet behind her, "Penny, come out. Meet an older brother, he used to be our neighbor."

"Squeak—"

A piercing sound rang out, and a tiny girl, like a kitten, crawled out from the large bedside table.

She groped her way to the edge of the wooden bed, raised her head towards Ada, and revealed a pair of silver, nebula-like eyes.

"This is Penny. The last time you saw her, she was only three years old. She's grown so beautiful, hasn't she?"

Penny isn't exactly pretty.

Her skin was yellowish, her face was sunken, and her hair was thin, soft, and dry like weeds.

But her silver eyes are really beautiful; they make you want to get lost in them.

As Saul stared into Penny's eyes, the diary suddenly flew out.

[October 11, 316th year of the lunar calendar, sunny]

The weather is really nice today.

You're lucky too.

How did I find a nightmare butterfly cocoon?

Do you want to live with nightmares from now on?

Then I suggest you gouge out those eyes!

Ada was grinning foolishly when she suddenly noticed that Saul was staring intently at Penny, and her expression turned serious.

"Hey! Thor, you're not allowed to make a move on her!"

Thor reluctantly looked away, meeting Ada's disapproving gaze. "What nonsense are you talking about? Penny is only 7 years old... I was just curious about what happened to her eyes."

"I can't see it anymore. After we ran out of the village, I was carrying Penny on my back the whole time, and I didn't notice when she got injured. By the time I found out, it was too late. After the wound healed, it looked like this, but it's still quite pretty."

Ada seemed used to being asked this question and answered calmly. He went over and gave Penny some food.

Penny refused, pushing her brother's hand away and staring intently at Thor.

"Is she... really blind?" Thor walked over and waved his hand in front of Penny.

Penny just stared at Thor's face without flinching or blinking.

"Brother Thor!" the little girl suddenly called out in a clear voice.

"Hello, Penny." Thor bent down, looked down at Penny, and greeted her with a smile.

"Brother Thor!" Penny called out again.

Ada then pulled Thor away, exclaiming dramatically, "No way, Penny, you remember him?"

Penny smiled sheepishly and stepped back into the large cabinet.

Ada completely ignored the strange feeling in Penny's actions and complained somewhat indignantly, "She only calls me Ada, never 'brother.' Why does she call you so nicely when she sees you?"

Seeing Thor shrug innocently, Ada repeated herself.

"Don't you dare lay a finger on my sister!"
