Chapter 976 Not a Daughter
Chapter 976 Not a Daughter
Murridge saw that the enraged Agu had begun to unleash equally brutal witchcraft, but he showed no emotion whatsoever. He gently tossed the still-bleeding head into Agu's arms.
"There's no need to be so angry, Mr. Agu. This woman is not your daughter."
When Agu was hit by Fiona's head, the magic he was building up was suddenly scattered. He staggered and almost fell, but he still held his daughter's head tightly, unwilling to let her fall to the ground and get dirty.
Murridge's calm words caused Murridge's anger to catch in his throat, making him feel suffocated and as if he were about to explode.
"You... huff... what do you mean?" Agu's chest heaved violently.
"It means exactly what it sounds like." Murridge bent down and picked up the limp body from the ground, embracing it like a lover.
"She's not your daughter. Your Fiona was murdered when she was fifteen. This Fiona is just like you..."
"...is a faceless man."
Agu's legs buckled, and he collapsed to his knees. His eyes widened as he stared at the calm-faced Murridge, his mind a complete mess.
Murridge raised his chin. "Take another look at the head in your hand."
Agu slowly lowered his head, only to find that the head in his hand had lost its facial features at some point.
The head was flat and without any undulations, and even the hair had fallen out naturally. In the end, what Agu was holding was just a fleshy ball that still carried the warmth of his limbs.
If it weren't for the fact that the wound on the neck remained unchanged, no one would have imagined that the ball of flesh had anything to do with the head from before.
But Agu knew very well that this was what the Faceless Man looked like after he died or lost his identity.
It has no facial features, no distinctive features, and no identity.
They can only wander in this world, searching for the meaning of their existence.
"If she's not Nana, why does she know about what happened between Nana and me? What did you do to Nana?" Agu's voice grew louder and louder, the truth about his daughter's whereabouts bringing him to a slightly clearer head.
Murridge shrugged. "At the time, we didn't know you would become Thor's servant. To hunt down an evil Faceless Man, we naturally had to find information about you. So we performed a soul search on poor little Fiona. But don't worry, when we found her, she had been dead for a long time. The soul search didn't cause her much pain; instead, it helped her find peace."
No one will believe such nonsense.
But Agu didn't even have the ability to get angry at this moment.
He was previously happy that his daughter was alive and had successfully advanced to the second-tier wizard level, but he never expected that Nana would not have lived past the age of fifteen.
The huge difference made him feel like there was a piece of his chest was empty.
It was as if my heart had withered and died at some point.
Ironically, he was a dead man.
Where does a dead person get a heart?
Murridge seemed oblivious to the blow Agu had suffered, and continued to offer his "thoughtful" explanations.
"Back then, to lure you back, we deliberately blurred the memories of a Faceless Man captive, turning her into the new Fiona. Unfortunately, you haven't appeared since, and all our painstaking efforts were in vain. But to our surprise, the new Fiona possesses remarkable magical talent. Moreover, after developing a hatred for the Faceless Man, she consistently achieves excellent results in experiments related to him. Perhaps this is because you are inherently very good at understanding yourselves?"
"I thought that she might still be useful one day, so I kept her and trained her, turning her into an excellent second-tier wizard who was very good at experimenting with faceless people."
At this point, Murridge sighed, "Well, I don't want to kill her now either. After all, I've raised her for so many years, and I'm quite satisfied with this earnest little girl. It's just that I didn't expect that the breeding nest for the Red Worm Queen would suddenly break down not long ago. It will take at least one unit of Faceless Man as materials to repair the breeding nest."
"We originally wanted to find the other Faceless Ones through you to repair the incubation tank, but we didn't expect you to genuinely not know their whereabouts. In that case, I'll have to use Fiona as a temporary solution."
As he spoke, Murridge leaned down and kissed Fiona on the neck, then said with his bright red lips, "So you don't need to be angry, she really isn't your daughter."
Agu didn't loosen his grip on the head; in fact, he hugged it tighter. "Back then, who killed Nana?"
"We can't be sure either. It should be the person who was hunting you down. After losing track of you, he immediately found Fiona and tortured her to death. However, I heard from the wizard who went on the mission that the killer was probably a half-elf."
Agu suddenly looked up. "What did you say? A half-elf? Where did that half-elf go after that?"
He happened to know a half-elf!
"Yes, a half-elf. He went to the continent of State after brutally murdering Fiona. But Stargate didn't have enough informants there, so they lost track of him. If you want revenge, it probably won't be easy. After all, it's uncertain whether a half-elf still exists or hasn't been mutated yet."
Murridge weighed the corpse in his hand. "Oh, I can't waste any more time chatting with you. After all, the material won't be fresh in a little while. I'll have someone take you out; I need to go to the lab."
Murridge randomly picked a wizard apprentice and had Agu go out with him.
Agu was clearly unwilling, but he had no power to resist Murridge, and he also wanted to figure out what half-elves were all about.
He glanced back at Murridge, clutched the head in his arms, and felt a deep sadness in his heart. He no longer had the strength to fight back and could only leave with the wizard apprentice.
Murridge then carried the still-bleeding body to the laboratory near the white warehouse.
This is the place where the queen of the red worm is studied.
At that moment, in the large pool in the center of the room, a girl had just surfaced from the bottom of the water when a wizard apprentice rushed over and used a towel covered with insects to wipe her body.
The girl glanced at Murridge as he walked in, and the headless corpse in his arms, and muttered to herself, "What a shameless bastard."
Murridge wasn't angry. He handed the body to the girl and said, "Say what you will. When you're developing the materials for the breeding nest, please do it as quickly as possible, Wizard Corey."
The murky liquid on Corey's body had been sucked away by the insects, and she still had an expression of indifference on her face.
"I will. I just hope that, at least during the experiment's completion, you won't come here and suddenly rip my head off."
Murridge gave a short laugh, as if Corey was just joking.
"I'm also trying to avoid unnecessary conflict. After all, the other party is Thor's soul form. If I lose it, Thor might come back with his terrifying witchcraft curses to give me a beating."
Corey ignored him, only glancing at Murray's retreating figure as he left.
That look in his eyes was like looking at a dead person.
