Chapter 95 Leaving the Wizard's Tower Requires a Temporary Change of Character
Chapter 95 Leaving the Wizard's Tower Requires Temporary Transformation Back into a Human
"I can leave the tower now..." Thor had the illusion that he was about to be released from prison.
He felt like a balloon floating into the sky, yet at the same time, he felt empty and unable to touch the ground.
He thought he would only get the chance to leave the tower after he was promoted to level two.
If he wants to raise his magic power to 50 joules, it will probably take him another six months.
Unexpectedly, Byron's invitation brought the date forward.
What task does Senior Byron need his assistance with?
He recalled asking Byron, his senior, to help him find a more complete soul body. He wondered if this invitation was related to that.
"Are you leaving the tower?" Claire's voice rang out from beside her.
"Hmm." Thor smiled.
"Oh, that's great, I was just about to go out anyway."
It's not surprising that Keli, who is already a level two apprentice, was able to get the mission to leave the tower.
But this was also Claire's first time going out, and Thor asked with concern, "Is it some kind of dangerous mission?"
Keli shook her head.
With her eyes lowered and her expression unchanging, she said, "I'm just going to get some materials for cultivation outside the tower and go home for a bit."
She seemed unwilling to discuss the matter further, and raised her head slightly to raise her voice.
"Since it's your birthday and we've also received the good news that we can go out, let's hurry back and have some cake to celebrate!"
Claire gripped Thor's shoulder again.
"Are we celebrating a birthday with cake? Can't we eat cake anytime? Or is this cake not the kind I'm thinking of?" Nick chimed in curiously.
Since Nick was going out with Thor, Claire thought for a moment and extended an invitation to Nick.
"Please come and try it, I just made it." She nodded.
"It's a very special cake, of course!" Thor perked up and, without Claire pushing him, took the initiative to lead Nick outside.
"Senior, please don't be shy, I'll give you some of mine..."
The departure date was postponed by one day due to some unavoidable objective reasons.
Nick was still somewhat listless as he drove Thor out of the Wizard Tower.
Thor, who had given most of the birthday cake to Nick, leaned against the car window, looking out with great energy.
They exited the tower in a double-decker carriage. The carriage was small; people could only lean back, not lie down, so it wasn't particularly comfortable. But the carriage was quite fast.
The driver was an adult male servant from inside the tower. Generally, those who have lived to this age have their own means of survival.
Throughout the journey, the servant only spoke when necessary, otherwise trying his best to remain quiet and inconspicuous. Saul and Nick simply called him the coachman, without even giving him his name.
Thor could sense the fear emanating from him.
He was just as nervous as he was when facing his mentor and the tower master.
This is because the sense of threat generated by the vast difference in power levels cannot be eliminated by courage alone.
Nick was still reclining on the car seat, resting. Saul had no one to share his joy at escaping the "cage," so he could only stick his entire upper body out of the window, just like when he first entered the city.
In April, the weather was a bit cool, but with the spring breeze blowing, greenery had already begun to cover the earth.
The area where the wizard's tower meets the distant wasteland has also been tinged with new green from its original dark yellow color.
As the carriage traveled at great speed, some grass seeds and flying insects hit the wheels and sides of the carriage, leaving yellowish-green marks.
Thor watched as the green hills and dense forests drew closer and closer, with wild mice and rabbits occasionally darting out from his side.
After observing the fascinating outside world for a while, Thor couldn't help but turn back to look at the Wizard Tower.
The gray-black wizard tower stands alone on the plain, surrounded by emptiness and silence, as if it would never change after thousands of years.
Apart from the wizards' buildings, there wasn't even a tall shrub around the wizard's tower.
It was as if even the plants feared the Wizard's Tower, maintaining an absolute distance from its mysterious world.
The carriage traveled for most of the day across the vast, deserted plains before finally arriving at a populated village.
But the carriage did not stop, nor did it approach the villages; it simply sped past them along the main road.
Those villages and towns were not particularly prosperous, but there were quite a few houses.
Saul saw that some of the people who were out and about immediately knelt down upon seeing their carriage and did not get up for a long time.
They were dressed simply and old, but there were no people who were naked.
People in the outside world seem to be doing quite well.
The darkness of the wizard's tower did not invade the ordinary people around it. In fact, the latter could still enjoy the environmental benefits brought by the wizard's tower.
Thor stared for a long time before finally pulling his head back.
After admiring the scenery for a while, he still felt a sense of detachment, like an outsider, and it wasn't as relaxing as he had imagined.
It was as if the chains from the wizard's tower were still firmly fastened around his neck.
When Saul sat back in the carriage, looking dejected, he discovered that Nick had somehow regained his spirits and started reading.
Thor: "..."
Okay, he thought for a moment, picked up his heavy backpack, rummaged through the various props and potions he had prepared, chose a book that wasn't too sensitive, and started reading.
They then traveled for five days, only stopping to rest at midnight, and even sleeping was replaced by meditation.
He does have the air of an ascetic monk.
On the sixth day, Saul looked up from the swaying book, closed his eyes, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Nick, do you know where we're going?"
"I'll head to the border town of Mobian in the Duchy of Kema to meet up with Byron first, and then... most likely, I'll go to the Valley of Falling Hands. But before that, I need to take a detour to do a small mission and earn some credits."
Nick looked up from his book, winked at Saul, and said, "We've come all this way, and we still have plenty of time. We can't let this trip go to waste."
As the two were talking, the carriage suddenly stopped, jolting them.
"Are we there yet?" Thor looked out quickly, but all he saw was a field and a gentle hillside.
There were no towns or cities around.
At the foot of a hill not far away, a group of dozens of people, riding horses, stood quietly.
Someone in the group was holding a blue flag with silver trim, in the center of which was an abstract drawing of a rabbit holding a snake in its mouth.
Nick suddenly put down the book in his hand and slipped out of the carriage.
From the opposing army, a tall, middle-aged man rode his horse at full gallop.
He wore light cloth armor in the same navy and silver stripes, with metal guards sewn onto his vital areas. A longsword hung at his waist, and he dismounted when he was about ten meters away from Nick.
Thor saw the man walk up to Nick, kneel on one knee, and perform a gesture of respect with his hand on his chest.
Nick raised his hand to let him up, his movements as elegant as a prince.
The two men, with their backs to Thor, began to speak in hushed tones.
Because of the distance, Thor couldn't hear what the two were talking about. He could only tell that the middle-aged man remained very respectful, while Nick remained expressionless.
After a while, Nick came back, but did not get into the carriage.
"Something has come up with at the family, and I need to go there. I'm afraid you'll have to make your own way to Mobian City from now on."
Thor asked in surprise, "What about Byron's mission?"
Nick blinked, his lips pressed tightly together. "I'll be done quickly, and I can head to the Border Town from there without being late. But..."
Solton immediately sensed that this turn of events was not a good sign.
Sure enough, Nick continued, "I'll have to ask you to run that little mission I took on. I'll transfer the mission credits to you."
