Chapter 898 Reporting the News
While Sol was busy recruiting people, Gorsa, who had been away from the Principality of Kema for several years, finally set foot on this familiar land again.
After receiving Yura's letter before the sigh, he decided to return. However, on the way back, Gorsa did not use magic to travel or take a convenient and fast airship. Instead, he walked slowly back from the far north, leaning on a wooden staff that reached his chest.
The towering Wall of Sighs blocked the cold currents from the north, and the temperature in the Principality of Kema began to rise sharply even though spring had just begun.
Gorza, who was completely shrouded in a large gray cloak, looked very out of place.
Pedestrians occasionally cast curious glances at the passersby, but they didn't come up to ask anything, and no one even discussed it.
A person who behaves strangely may have an eccentric personality, but they could also be a wizard.
Ordinary people would never want to have any interaction with wizards unless absolutely necessary.
Gorsa walked alone on the road, more like on a picnic than on a journey.
He's not in a hurry; plenty of people are worried for him.
On the second day after Gorza entered Kema territory, a group of soldiers met him on the road.
The leader was a first-tier official wizard, and behind him was a magnificent carriage drawn by four fine horses.
"Lord Gorza, Grand Duke Kira has sent us to fetch you."
Gorsa glanced at the wizards who came to greet him and smiled. "Kira won't send a carriage to pick me up. Don't you know I'm quite adept at traveling?"
The welcoming wizard quickly said solicitously, "Lord Kira knows that you are not feeling well... or perhaps not in a good mood. You will be more comfortable in our carriage."
Those who fail to advance in their careers will experience a period of weakness, and some may even fall into a state of severe injury and near-mutation. This period of weakness may last for several months, or for some, for several years.
In the wizard's view, although Gorsa showed no outward signs of distress, his body must have been injured. Therefore, when he said the other person was in a bad mood, he was still trying to save Gorsa's dignity.
"No need," Gorsa waved his hand casually and continued walking forward with his cane. "You can't keep up with me."
The wizard opposite him twitched his lips, thinking to himself, "If you didn't have witchcraft and insisted on traveling on foot, taking two months to reach the border of Kema, would we have gone through all this trouble to pick you up?"
However, this was certainly not something that could be said outright. The wizard remembered what someone had told him before he set off, so he straightened his chest slightly and said, "Lord Gorsa, Grand Duke Kira asked me to remind you that some things have an expiration date."
Gorsa suddenly raised his hand and pressed it against the other person's face, and the latter was so frightened that he didn't dare to move.
Gorza pressed down slightly, and the latter's knees buckled, causing him to squat down and eventually sit on the ground.
At this moment, Gorsa had withdrawn his hand and wiped his palm on his cloak, as if he had touched something dirty.
He lowered his eyes. "Tell Yura I'll go, don't worry. If her messages are truly timely, she won't wait for me to come up; she'll come to me herself. So... don't disturb my walk."
The wizard, sitting on the ground, was trembling uncontrollably.
Previously, Gorsa had been concealing his magic and mental power, and from the outside, he looked no different from an ordinary person. This made him a little complacent, having never faced a third-tier wizard before, and he unconsciously began to imitate the expression of the superior who told him this sentence.
But he dared not let his mission end in failure.
Therefore, even though he couldn't get up from the ground, he still asked in a trembling voice, "Great Lord Gorsa, when...when are you going to the capital?"
Gorsa stopped and turned halfway back to ask a question.
"Do you know why there's only one wizard in your party?"
The wizard lying on the ground was taken aback.
"Because they're afraid of wasting it, ha..."
Gorsa chuckled softly and continued on his way.
The wizard who was left behind was lost in thought for a long time. Even when the soldiers behind him could no longer see Gorsa and came to help him up, he still couldn't understand what "fear of waste" meant.
Another soldier whispered a reminder to him, "Perhaps when Grand Duke Kira sent us out, he didn't expect us to come back alive."
The wizard who was helped up immediately glared at him.
The wizard couldn't understand. It would be normal for ordinary soldiers to be used as cannon fodder, but he was a formal wizard, and there weren't many formal wizards in the entire Duchy of Kema!
How could Grand Duke Kira possibly use him as cannon fodder?!
Gorsa ignored the wizards and soldiers left behind and continued on his way.
He kept walking like that. When he felt tired, he would sit on a big rock by the roadside to rest; when he felt sleepy, he could jump onto a small tree with newly sprouted green buds and have a good sleep.
Along the way, they ate whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and when they didn't want to eat, they simply absorbed the surrounding magic to replenish their energy.
And so Gorsa strolled leisurely to a small village outside the capital city of Kema. Once he crossed the moat, he would be considered to have entered the territory of the capital.
The village is mostly populated by farmers who are tilling the soil; there are actually very few people in the village.
Just as Gorsa was about to drive straight through the small village, a small brown twig suddenly emerged from the muddy country road.
Like new buds sprouting in response to spring, only their growth rate is frighteningly fast.
The branches, which were originally less than the thickness of a human finger, grew to the thickness of a forearm and a meter tall in just a few breaths. Then they continued to branch and extend, eventually becoming a small tree.
However, this little tree was bare and had no buds, seemingly with no intention of sprouting or growing leaves.
Gorsa paused, then stepped forward, reached out and snapped off a branch with a "snap," holding it up to examine it closely.
"Hmm, an upside-down tree. So... this is the root."
Gorsa put down the tree root, and then discovered that the bare sapling in front of him withered and disappeared at an even faster rate.
Gorsa knew, of course, that the inverted tree was the crown jewel of Bydon Academy. Now that Bydon Academy was destroyed, most of the remaining staff had scattered to different places. The inverted tree, however, remained secluded on the site of the former Bydon Academy.
"Could it be that the upside-down tree has woken up and started running around everywhere?"
You should know that Baidong Academy is not close to here.
"If the tree really did come here on its own, then it should have recovered to level three by now." Gorsa's lips curled up slightly, and his expression finally changed a little. He stared at the small hole left in the ground by the withered roots, his eyes gradually brightening. "Finally, I've seen something interesting!"
Gorsa hadn't considered the possibility that it was another upside-down tree, a probability even lower than that of an upside-down tree that would simply lift its roots and run away.
Now, he has forgotten the invitation from Kira, or rather, Yura, and is only interested in seeing this upside-down tree that has been restored to the third tier even without its keeper.
"It must hold some interesting secrets." Just as Gorsa was about to reach into the hole in the ground, a piece of parchment cut to the size of a thumb suddenly jumped out of the hole.
Gorsa immediately changed from probing to grabbing, and soon saw the words on the parchment.
Kira was imprisoned by Yora.
