Chapter 88: Wardrobe Malfunction

Chapter 88: Wardrobe Malfunction

Saul did not receive a reply from Kongsa.

He didn't really expect to get an answer.

Leaving Kongsha's room, he continued upwards, traversing the dark corridor and ignoring the whispers coming from the darkness in the distance, and went straight to the fourteenth floor of the West Tower.

1416 Dormitory.

This is Byron's new home.

After being promoted, wizard apprentices can choose to move to the corresponding floor, or they can choose not to move if they find it troublesome.

But most people choose to move, since the infrastructure is much worse.

Today is the first time Saul has come to Byron's dorm to see him, and it's late at night. I wonder if Byron is asleep.

You can't expect all apprentices to be night owls like Kongsa.

Thor knocked on the door three times gently, then lowered his hand, intending to wait a little while.

However, the dormitory door opened inwards automatically the next second.

"Hmm?" Thor peeked inside but didn't see anyone in the living room.

He went inside.

The living room was a mess, like the homeowner had gone to sleep halfway through a move. Many boxes were open, their contents still inside. Other boxes were stacked high, obscuring the entire room.

"Senior, Senior Byron?"

No one responded.

Thor believed that Senior Byron should not be there, after all, with the mental strength of a third-level apprentice, it was impossible for him to still be asleep by now.

The person wasn't there, but the dormitory door wasn't locked. Was it left unlocked on purpose for them?

Thor took two steps forward, "traversing mountains and rivers," and finally found the experimental table hidden behind the large box.

The lab bench was also messy, with countless items scattered around it. However, a small, palm-sized blank space was deliberately left in the middle of the table, on which a letter was placed.

The letter read, "Only Thor can see this."

"The handwriting is still so ugly." Thor shook his head and sighed, then picked up the letter and unfolded it.

The letter read:

Only Thor can touch this paper. If anyone else touches it, don't look at it anymore, go get the antidote right away. You have 10 points left to live.

9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, ...

Thor, I've received my first assignment as a Level 3 Apprentice, which requires me to be away for a while. I owe you eight credits during this time. If you're in a hurry, you can use the red potion on the table to offset that. If you're not in a rush, you can repay me when I return.

It's a pity I don't have many friends in the Wizarding Tower, and no one owes me credits, so I can't entrust you to anyone else's care. Please take good care of yourself, and I hope to see you alive when I return. If you die, the eight credits will be wiped clean.

I also hope I can successfully complete my first mission and come back alive. If you're afraid I'll die, you can take that bottle of red potion as collateral.

That's all, goodbye.

By the way, if the other person who received this letter is your friend, you can tell them the letter isn't poisoned and they don't need to find an antidote. If not, then forget about it.

Byron, who still owes you eight credits.

After reading the letter, Saul couldn't help but laugh out loud.

He clearly hadn't told Byron the countdown joke before, and he didn't know how Byron came up with it. He seemed so dull-witted, yet sometimes he was strangely shrewd.

He had originally intended to ask Senior Byron about the issue of Lingzhi, but now it seemed there was no way to ask. He could only hope that Senior Byron would return safely.

Thor didn't touch the red potion, leaving it standing on the table. He didn't bother to check what the potion was, afraid he wouldn't be able to resist.

Saul casually destroyed the letter and left the garbage-filled dormitory.

Back in the hallway, the dormitory door closed automatically again, and Thor was confident that it wouldn't open it easily again after this.

"Byron has also left, so it seems I'll have to ask Mark tomorrow. Although he knows I underwent body modification, he doesn't know the materials used, so he probably won't associate it with spirit esters."

Thor turned around, ready to go back to sleep.

Just then, he suddenly noticed that his shadow on the ground seemed to have an extra piece of something.

Something thin and long flashed past the back of my neck.

Thor immediately became alert, stopped in his tracks, and prepared his spells and potions.

He raised his left hand and slowly touched his neck.

At the same time, he kept an eye on the shadows on the ground.

Thor didn't feel anything strange until he placed his hand on the skin behind his neck.

The shadows on the ground remained unchanged.

"Is it just my imagination, or has that thing already left?"

Thor entered a semi-immersive meditation again, scanning his surroundings but finding no unusual spirits.

But he did not relax. Instead, he remained highly vigilant and slowly left the dormitory area for third-level apprentices.

He didn't breathe a sigh of relief until he entered his dormitory.

"It's definitely dangerous to walk in the tower late at night. Since Kongsa and Byron aren't in the tower now, we shouldn't go out at night anymore."

……

The next day, after lunch, Saul rushed to Professor Katz's lab, hoping to buy some common knowledge from senior student Mark.

Just as he was about to push the door open and enter, he heard voices coming from inside.

"...It's good that you can endure hardship like this. If your uncle had worked harder back then, he wouldn't have had to leave the Wizard Tower at the age of thirty."

"I'll keep working hard, Senior Cole. Um, can I do experiments with you?"

"Sure, you've been doing experiments with Mark before, so you should have some experience. It'll save me the trouble of looking for an assistant."

"Thank you so much, Senior Cole!"

"Don't mention it. Doing experiments with such a cute girl like you will definitely brighten my mood."

Upon hearing this, Thor went inside and saw Cole, a second-level apprentice, with one hand on Angela's shoulder.

Cole was slightly overweight, but he always had a warm smile on his face. He seemed to have a very gentle personality.

Angela, however, remained all smiles, seemingly unaware that anything was amiss.

Seeing someone come in, Cole naturally withdrew his hand and nodded to Thor.

"This is Instructor Katz's laboratory. What can I do for you?"

"Hi senior, I'm looking for Mark, isn't he here?"

Angela whispered a reminder to Cole.

Cole raised his eyebrows, and then his smile became even brighter.

"So you're Thor, the mentor's most valued first-level apprentice." He walked towards Thor. "He's gone out to gain experience, and I've taken over Mark's job. Feel free to ask me anything."

The other person seemed very enthusiastic.

Saul politely expressed his gratitude.

"Thank you, senior. But I wanted to return something to Mark. Since he's out, I'll wait until he gets back. I'll head back now. Goodbye, senior."

Cole was a little disappointed that Saul left so quickly, but he didn't stop him. He just invited him to come over and visit often when he had time.

Thor gave a perfunctory reply, glanced at Angela who was standing silently behind Cole, and left the laboratory.

Back in the corridor, Thor was somewhat bewildered. He couldn't believe that overnight, all three of his familiar senior classmates had left the Wizard Tower.

Next, we can only go to the library like searching for a needle in a haystack.

The library was nearly empty; those borrowing or returning books were all in a hurry and didn't want to linger.

As Saul entered the library, he noticed that the anxious middle-aged man who had been sitting on the left was not there.

Who accidentally touched that "holographic image"?

"Are you here to borrow a book?" A very arrogant voice came from the right.

Thor turned his head and saw a young man of about eighteen or nineteen looking up at him with his chin raised.

"If you want to borrow books, come in; if not, get out."

Upon closer inspection, the arrogant young man bore a striking resemblance to the anxious middle-aged man from before—almost 90% similar.
