Chapter 44 First Collaboration

Chapter 44 First Collaboration

Thor paused, stopping right in front of Mark.

He didn't really want Mark to know that he knew Byron.

"Senior, I'd like to ask you if there are any other ways to earn credits."

"Don't you have enough credits?" Mark found it strange. How could a new apprentice have so many places that require credits?

However, he quickly remembered that Thor wanted him to research body modification, and the investment in this research was a bottomless pit.

"Come in and talk."

Mark stepped aside.

Mark's dorm room had the same structure as Kongsha's, but it was very messy, with unknown things scattered all over the floor.

There was only an open space at the long table, but only one chair.

Mark sat casually in a chair, picked up a box with his foot, and gestured for Saul to sit down.

"Actually, with your current job, it's easy to earn more academic credits."

Thor obediently looked up at Mark.

Have you ever heard of a mutual aid society?

Thor was startled, but pretended to recall, "I heard about it from people in my batch, but I was too busy to go."

Then he cautiously asked, "Senior... are you also a member of the mutual aid society?"

Mark waved his hand. "No, that mutual aid society is actually just a small group formed by a level 3 apprentice and a few level 2 apprentices. But the level 2 apprentices usually manage it."

Mark's familiar mocking smile returned. "They call it mutual assistance, but all the newcomers who go there get exploited."

"However, the Mutual Aid Society also organizes some interesting things, such as exchange fairs. The goods are cheaper than those in the college's registration office. If you have any goods, you can sell them there and make some money."

"You have something on hand?" Thor asked tentatively. "You mean, I'm going to sell things from the morgue? But my mentor forbids that?"

"You're a newcomer, so you naturally lack the skills, but you can set a price and let those who are interested figure out how to take it away themselves."

Saul hesitated at the suggestion.

He wanted to attend the exchange meeting if he had the chance, but the parasite that Keli encountered last time was a big problem.

It might be safe for an upperclassman like Mark Byron to attend an exchange event. But those people might take advantage of him because he's a newcomer.

It would be great if this exchange could be conducted anonymously.

But then I thought about it again. There are only so many apprentices in the wizard tower. Even if everyone is masked, it would be easy for someone to guess his background.

What if someone tells Professor Kaz about this... Well, some things are fine to do secretly, but it's not good to do them in the open.

"Thank you, senior. I'll think about it carefully."

Mark noticed Saul's worry and reassured him, "You don't need to worry about that. The last person in charge of this job always sold things at the exchange meetings. And the people who bought his things would intentionally keep his secrets so that they could continue to work with him in the future."

Thor asked with a hint of expectation, "Senior, is there anything you need?"

Mark couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"Do you think you can have what I need?"

Saul thought he might actually have it, but there was no need to rush to reveal it to Mark.

After leaving Mark's dormitory, Thor went straight back to the second floor of the East Tower.

Let's postpone the visit to Senior Byron.

Saul planned to find a quiet time to slip Byron a note and tell him to meet on the second floor of the East Tower.

Hopefully, Byron will be interested in the other complex rune-constructed models he has.

Compared to the exchange meeting, which was fraught with hidden dangers, Byron was more reliable.

Two days passed, and Thor still hadn't seen Byron, even though he had slipped the note into Byron's dorm room.

"He hasn't already left, has he?"

Thor has completely exhausted his crafting materials and has a few pieces of plastic bone left, but there has been no real progress in his body modification.

In his spare time, he successfully cast the 0th-tier sorcery spell "Strike the Necromancer".

If Byron had already left the Wizarding Tower, Thor would rather smuggle materials from the morgue than share his insights with other strangers.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door of the morgue.

Thor was somewhat surprised, as Kaz had just visited yesterday; normally, it would take four or five days for him to come.

Who will come looking for him now?

When Saul opened the door, it was the cold, aloof senior who had taken over Byron's job.

The other person was still looking at people with their chin raised.

"Come here, do me a favor."

After saying that, she turned and walked back, seemingly certain that Thor would follow.

Thor hesitated for half a second, then closed the door and followed.

This was his first time entering the first morgue.

As soon as he stepped inside, he was stunned by the scene.

This place is completely different from his morgue, or rather, this place isn't even called a morgue.

It looked more like a shamanistic ritual.

The walls above and all around were covered with black patterns, and between the patterns were runes of varying sizes.

The ground was lit with candles of varying heights, some burning and some extinguished. Between the candles were magic circles whose purpose was unclear.

In the middle of the room stood three stone coffins, each wide open, containing three corpses.

Seeing a corpse in a morgue is perfectly normal.

But the three corpses here gave Thor a very bad feeling.

They stood there without any restraints, and if Thor hadn't seen the obvious fatal wounds on their bodies, he would have easily mistaken them for three living people standing there with their eyes closed.

"These are the three new ones brought in today." The senior student stood at the doorway, hands behind her back. "But there's a problem. The middle one, the second-level apprentice..."

The senior student pointed to the corpse in the middle, which had been cleaved from the shoulder to the chest by a sharp weapon.

"He brought an evil spirit with him. If we don't get rid of the evil spirit, we can't use any of the materials from this corpse."

"But that evil spirit is cunning. Whenever I try to kill it, it immediately transfers to two other corpses. And once my witchcraft changes targets, I have to start all over again."

How to deal with evil spirits?

Thor thought to himself, "I wonder if the Undead Strikes I just learned will be any good?"

But outwardly he said, "Senior, I don't yet have any means to deal with evil spirits..."

"Of course I know," the senior sneered. "I just asked you to help me pinpoint the evil spirit's location and tell me at the last moment of the spell, so it doesn't escape again. It's such a hassle."

As she spoke, the senior student raised her hand and tossed something to Thor.

Thor looked down and saw a soft, limp piece of leather.

The leather was made of some unknown material; it was white and delicate, warm to the touch, and had a faint floral fragrance.

Two small holes were punched in the middle of the leather, with a gap of about half a palm's width between them.

There were no magic runes or symbols drawn on the leather.

"Put this mask on your face, sit in the magic circle in the corner, and you'll be able to see the location of the evil spirit. Hurry up, don't waste time," Sister Xue urged impatiently.

"Senior, I..."

The other party interrupted Thor again, "Got it, you want payment, right? After we deal with the evil spirit. As for the other two Level 1 Apprentice corpses, you can take either one. I'll write it in the mission log that I only accepted one Level 1 Apprentice corpse and one Level 2 Apprentice corpse today."

They can actually take away a corpse directly?

Saul always felt that he was already going too far by occasionally misappropriating some materials.

Unexpectedly, this second-level apprentice sister handed over a complete corpse without even blinking.

The corpses delivered to the morgue all had some abnormalities that prevented them from being buried directly. However, if properly processed, these abnormal parts could become the best dark-attribute materials.

It can be said to be extremely valuable.

Thor only needs to help his senior find the location of the evil spirit to get such a big reward?

Could this mission itself be dangerous? For example, the evil spirit might attack Thor.

"Senior, may I ask why you didn't ask Hayden-senpai, but instead asked me?"

I was sick a couple of days ago and my manuscripts are running low.

It's Tuesday today, so please read on, gentlemen!!! Please turn to the last page!!!
