Chapter 225 Old Friends and Letters
Chapter 225 Old Friends and Letters
"You can still recognize me like this?" Claire muttered, tossing something in her hand to Thor.
It's no wonder Keli was surprised; she was now wearing plate armor and a mask as thin as gold foil, with only a corner of her mouth showing.
Her lips were still golden red.
Apart from a red ponytail peeking out from the helmet, there was no familiar place at all.
Thor caught what Claire tossed to him, immediately opened it, and exclaimed, "Oh? What's this? Honey?"
"Garlic wax. You once said that some common materials are difficult to keep fresh for a long time, but using witchcraft is too wasteful. I happened to see a jar of this outside from a human body collector. You can take a look at it; it might be useful."
Saul's eyes immediately lit up. "Great, it's very useful for experiments. But I was in a rush to come back from this trip and didn't bring anything good for you."
Claire pouted. "You owe me... What happened to your hand? You went out and lost the meat?"
"It melted, but I didn't throw it away. I put it in a bag and brought it back."
Thor tells Claire about his adventures with Byron in the Valley of the Fallen.
After hearing this, Claire made a disgusted face and said, "I don't want to go on adventures with you anymore, it's too unlucky."
"How dare you talk to me like that? I think you..." Thor said disdainfully, looking Claire up and down a few times, "I think you're in pretty much trouble too."
Keli lowered her head and patted her breastplate with her gloved hand; the thick armor clanged together, producing a crisp metallic sound.
"This was my experiment!" she insisted, "but there was a slight accident."
After thinking for a moment, Keli took off the mask from her face.
Her face, like her lips, had a faint, shimmering gold hue, and her skin and muscles moved somewhat stiffly.
"The new witchcraft I'm researching is conflicting with the medicine I've been taking recently, and now a toxic metal is constantly seeping out of my skin pores."
Saul frowned. "It's more serious than I thought. Do you need help?"
Claire rolled her eyes. "You're already in solitary confinement, you should worry about yourself. A genius like me, surely I can solve this little problem? I'm just really interested in this toxic metal, I plan to collect more before dealing with it!"
Thor gave Claire a bone thumbs-up, "You're awesome!"
Keli immediately replied, "You're awesome too!"
In private, Saul would occasionally throw out a word or two he'd never heard before, and Claire couldn't tell if it was a compliment or an insult. So she'd usually respond with a sarcastic remark first, and then try to decipher the true meaning of the word.
"How long are you going to be locked up? I was thinking of applying for a joint research project with you."
Thor glanced back at the warehouse door behind him. "Hmm... almost there. The initial framework is clear. All that's left is permutations and combinations, trying them one by one. It should be finished within a month... It mainly depends on my luck."
Claire's lips twitched twice. "With your luck, is it even worth watching?"
However, Claire immediately remembered that she had been having a lot of bad luck lately, so she quickly brought up the important matter before Thor could counterattack, "By the way, I'm here to pick up some materials."
She laboriously pulled a roll of paper from a small pocket hanging on her armor belt, intending to unfold it for Thor.
Thor looked at Claire's stiff, almost knotted hands, shook his head, and took the note, opening it himself.
The note contained only two words: "Completed".
Saul recognized it immediately; it was the very word he had just written on the paper with his communication pen.
"You? You're the one in charge of the transport mission? Didn't you hate physical labor the most?" But he immediately realized, "I know, in your current state, you can only walk a few steps. If you were to do experiments or practice witchcraft, you'd probably blow yourself up!"
Claire's face contorted instantly, and she gritted her teeth, raising her hand and slowly clenching it into a fist in front of Thor. "Get to work! If you delay my work, you'll have to pay me with your credits!"
Saul turned and went into the storeroom, shaking his head and sighing, "I wonder who forgot about the work they were doing first."
Hearing this, Keli behind him was so angry that she jumped up and down, but the plate armor she was wearing was too heavy, and she couldn't jump at all.
Since all the materials were already prepared, Thor went in and returned shortly after.
When the cart came out, the gate was wide open. Keli's gaze swept around the warehouse entrance and suddenly fixed on one spot.
"What's Billy doing in there? Wait, isn't that Bill? He looks a bit strange."
By this time, Saul had already pushed the cart out, and the door was slowly closing behind him, Bill's face disappearing through the gap.
"It's Bill." Saul handed the cart to Clare. "How do you know him?"
Keli reached out and took the cart, her armor clattering loudly.
"He was also a student of Master Gu Duo. I met him twice, and I remember him well. Tsk tsk, is he dead?"
"Yes. The senior I just told you about who led me down a dead end is him."
"Ah, that's really great." Claire turned the cart around. "Oh, by the way, he has an older brother named Billy, who's even more amazing than him."
Thor had heard of this person before, and had even met him once during his recent visit to the East Tower. However, he wasn't in a good mental state at the time, so his memory of him wasn't very clear.
"Are you afraid he'll retaliate against me?"
"No, don't worry, he's very busy. He doesn't care about anything except experiments and studies. He's cold and heartless, like a prop." Ke Li shrugged, and her armor clanked again. "But it's still better to stay away from him if possible."
"I'm leaving." Claire waved her hand.
Just as Thor was about to say goodbye, Claire suddenly slapped her forehead.
"Bang—"
The sound was frighteningly loud, and it echoed slightly in the corridor.
"Why bother?" Thor looked at Claire in surprise.
"I almost forgot something." Claire started rummaging through her things again, finally pulling out a thick envelope from another pocket.
"Someone asked my brother to give me a letter, and I'm to give it to you when I return to the tower."
Thor took it with a puzzled look.
Who would write to him?
"It seems to be your family member? I've never heard you mention them before; I thought you didn't have any family."
Saul took the envelope and peeled off the ornate sealing wax...
There was also a white envelope inside.
The white envelope was not sealed with sealing wax.
Saul turned the letter to the back, saw the four words on it, and immediately his eyes widened, and the smile on his face vanished abruptly.
"To my younger brother."
Seeing that Thor's expression was off, Claire Song pushed the cart over. "What's wrong? Is there a problem? I checked it; there's no magic or mental energy attached. I even went to the registration office and paid to sever the void connection... Could there still be something bad on it?"
Thor looked at those four words; there was only one person in the world who had ever called him brother.
"Claire, who gave you this letter?"
"My brother said it was a letter he asked a friend to deliver. They know you, and they even described your appearance accurately. They claimed to be your family..." Keli became more and more cautious as she spoke, and for a moment, many dramatic events in her family flashed through her mind.
"Should we report this to Instructor Kaz?"
"Mentor Kaz..." It's probably no use.
Moreover, Saul didn't want to report the matter immediately; he needed to ascertain the writer's identity and purpose.
"Claire, does anyone else know that you brought me this message?"
Keli shook her head, her red ponytail swaying. "I didn't tell anyone else. The people in the registration office also thought I brought it back myself and wanted to check it."
Claire was very clever and immediately understood Thor's meaning.
"Okay, then I'll accept it. Thank you."
Claire carefully observed Thor's expression. "If it's really troublesome, just throw it away."
Thor just smiled and shook his head.
Watching Claire struggle to push the cart away, Saul pushed open the door and returned to the second warehouse.
He walked to the lab table, sat down, and continued opening the letters.
Saul didn't examine it further. If the letter really was from Kismet, he certainly wouldn't be able to detect the hidden tricks in it.
Anyway, the diary didn't give any warning.
The envelope wasn't sealed shut, and at a glance, there were indeed no unusual fluctuations.
Perhaps that's why Kismet didn't seal the letter.
That's how he said to Saul, "Look, I didn't do anything, do you dare to look?"
I was supposed to add an extra chapter last night, but I've been stuck with writer's block until now...
