Death Wizard Diary.
Chapter 161 The Riddler
Chapter 161 The Riddler
It took Saul nearly ten hours to gather all the materials. And it took almost the same amount of time to safely transfer everything onto the cart.
In other words, by the time Saul had finished packing, it was already the early morning of the 30th.
Saul rubbed his arms, which ached from carrying things up and down, and put the cart aside.
It's not 6 a.m. yet, and it's not safe around the East Tower. We should wait until the candlelight turns white before going out.
With some time still left, Thor, carrying a lamp, made his way through the shelves to the rear of the horde of zombies.
He hasn't checked the number of candles yet today.
The number of burning candles should not be less than eighty-one, and for safety reasons, it is best to have more than one hundred.
"one two three……"
Thor walked along the wall surrounding the horde of corpses, counting the number of lights that were on one by one.
"Hiss..."
Saul had just counted to the tenth candle when it went out on its own.
Without saying a word, he raised the lamplighter high, and the blue flame approached the candle wick, relighting the lamp.
The candle was ignited by the flame from the lamp holder and immediately became bright again.
But as soon as Saul put down the lamplighter, the candlestick went out with a "whoosh".
Click again, then turn off; click again, then turn off.
With a grim expression, Saul put down the lamplighter, looked around to make sure there were definitely more than eighty lit candlesticks, then rolled up his sleeves and picked up the lamplighter again.
He half-closed his eyes and visualized the erosion diagram, staring intently at the mischievous candlestick through the gap in his eyelids.
This time, as he relit the candle, a pair of translucent, pale lips appeared out of nowhere, then pouted at the candle...
Thor immediately turned the lamplight around so that the flame from the port overlapped with the mouth.
"Ura wa la ji li gulu..."
He vaguely heard a few wails, which he couldn't understand, but he felt were curses.
So Thor didn't hesitate to use a lamp to burn that mouth.
White flames erupted from its translucent lips, startling it so much that it twisted its mouth and flew away.
Thor wasn't about to let it get away easily; he held up the lamp and relentlessly chased after it.
One fled, the other pursued.
Thor followed the mouth into the horde of corpses, watching helplessly as it landed on one of them.
Saul stopped and first looked at the diary on his left shoulder before picking up the lamplighter and approaching the corpse.
"Were you the one causing trouble just now?" Thor raised the lamp and waved it in front of the corpse.
The corpse had its eyes closed and looked no different from an ordinary corpse.
But after witnessing his mischievous mouth and seeing himself when he possessed these corpses, Thor seriously suspected that these corpses were not without consciousness.
They can see the outside world, have memories... and they'll cause trouble!
Is the reason for keeping the candles and lamps burning brightly in Chui Shou Valley just to keep these corpses away?
Saul raised the lamp, but this time he didn't light it; he simply pressed the still-warm bulb against the corpse's mouth.
"If you cause any more trouble, I'll really burn your mouth."
After making a vicious threat, Saul returned to the candlelight.
This time the candles did not go out, and none of them failed to be lit again.
Thor counted along the wall; there were 108 lights on in total, and a few others wouldn't light up even with a light switch.
Maybe it's broken.
After checking the candles, Saul turned to observe the corpses standing in the storeroom.
Having worked in a morgue, Thor wasn't afraid of corpses and flesh, but he always felt something was off when he was there.
He always felt that when he wasn't paying attention, the corpses would move, change positions, gather around him, or even talk about him.
It's really uncomfortable to have eyes constantly focused on your back even when you haven't noticed anything.
When Saul was organizing the storeroom, he made a point of noting the location of each body, but during later inspections, he never saw them moved.
But having experienced being inexplicably possessed by corpses before, he understood that even if these corpses didn't move, they were definitely not truly without any abnormalities.
However, all of these corpses were important items with serial numbers in the warehouse, so Thor couldn't even dissect one for research.
But Thor wasn't truly helpless against them. As his research into souls deepened, he would one day ask his mentor to lend him a corpse for further study.
Let the group go for now, and Thor continues to organize the things in the warehouse.
As the new warehouse manager, he plans to create an item lookup table, sorted by character, to avoid wasting time searching for items in future tasks.
This is also a huge project.
After working until 6 o'clock, when the East Tower was reopened, Thor finally put down the semi-finished products in his hands, pushed the cart, and left the warehouse.
After passing through a fork in the road and a room filled with boxes, he quickly arrived at the outermost double bronze metal door.
Thor pulled the car backwards, pushed open the right-hand door with one hand, and only stepped out after confirming that the left-hand door was unmoved.
Outside the door was a thick, almost solidified darkness, and the candlelight on the walls had shrunk into clusters of white light, making it impossible to move around freely.
Passing through the dark corridor, I unknowingly reached the second floor of the East Tower.
Thor walked to the outermost edge and immediately spotted Chrome sneaking into the third morgue.
The other person didn't see Thor and looked as excited as a child who had stolen candy.
"He really loves working in the morgue!" Thor shook his head and sighed as he walked away.
Thor believed he was different from Chrome, who was obsessed with corpses; he simply enjoyed the thrill of successful experiments.
Because of his bulky body and difficulty moving around, Mentor Rum is probably the only person in the tower who almost never goes out.
In the past two years, Saul has met with Rum several times, each time mainly to report on experimental results.
Rum, the tutor, did not try to persuade Saul to study under him again. It was unclear whether he had given up or was secretly stopped by Kaz, the tutor.
Thor secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He knocked on the door, but no one answered. However, the folding door opened a crack on its own.
It was described as a narrow gap, but it was big enough for Saul and the cart to go in together.
As he entered the room, Thor pushed aside the heavy curtains with one hand and once again saw the sunlight, and the corners that appeared even darker under its rays.
Rum, the mentor, sat in the darkest corner.
"Mentor Rum, these are the materials prepared for you," Thor said respectfully as he stepped forward.
After about ten seconds, Rum, who had been motionless, said in a low voice, "Put it on the table."
Saul moved everything onto the table, bowed to Rum, and prepared to leave.
"Sniff..."
Rum, who had been like a silent mountain of flesh, suddenly sniffed at Thor.
"Where did you get the doll you're wearing?"
A doll? Thor hesitated for a moment.
His relationship with Lord Gorsata has always been a secret. Apart from his mentor Kaz, no one else knows about it.
But this time, upon returning to the tower, Gorsar took Thor away in full view of everyone. Not only were Byron and his men present, but also five prisoners on land in a boat.
It seems the tower master no longer wanted to keep it a secret. When he gave him the red-eyed doll, he didn't warn him not to tell anyone.
What made him change his mind?
These thoughts flashed through his mind quickly, and Thor didn't hide anything, "It was given to me by the Tower Master."
"Hmm..." Rum squinted at Thor, as if he were seeing him for the first time.
Thor could only lower his head and let himself be stared at.
After not seeing him for several months, Professor Rum has gained weight again.
His height remained the same, but the fat around his body increased, piling up like a mountain, gradually beginning to devour his still relatively normal head.
Rum’s mere presence made Saul, standing to the side, feel cold and uneasy.
It's like an active volcano that could erupt at any moment.
"You... are you still going to major in dark elements? You should understand that your talents are actually more suited to studying fields related to spirits and mental power."
When Professor Rum spoke again, it was a topic he hadn't mentioned in a long time.
This time, Thor didn't hesitate. "Yes, Mentor Rum, I've made my decision."
"Was this your own choice? Did anyone force you?"
Thor was taken aback by Rum's blunt and abrupt question, but he still nodded to show his attitude.
"Heh." Rum chuckled softly. "Maintaining dark attributes isn't bad either. Perhaps this is destiny."
Thor couldn't understand his mentor's meaning; these powerful individuals were all riddle-makers.
Once he becomes a full-fledged wizard, he'll make these people wonder what he means!
Chapter Two will be released a few minutes later.
