Chapter 122 Tentacles Aren't Necessarily Cool
Byron then smacked his lips at Saul, signaling him to go ahead.
But Thor hesitated for a second and still refused.
"Senior, I also have a way to get down." He raised his hand and tapped the back of his neck.
A thin, black tentacle emerged from behind Thor's neck.
The tentacles grew longer and longer, stretching out to three or four meters, and wriggled merrily around Thor.
Xiaozao has been feeling really cooped up these days.
It moved to Thor's side, gave a slight tremor, and one of its tentacles split in two. With another tremor, it split into four.
Four tentacles waved in the air before transforming into sharp swords that plunged into the ground.
Tighten it again, lifting Thor up completely.
Byron stared at the tentacles, his bulbous eyes darting around. "Hmm?"
"Does the senior know this?"
"Um."
Thor sighed. "Let's go downstairs and talk about it."
"Um."
Byron glanced at the tentacle one last time, moved to the side of the burrow, lowered his head, and floated down.
Thor then directed the little algae to take him down.
However, since there was no place to transfer his weight, his body could only sway in the air as Xiaozao moved.
The small algae's tentacles constantly and rapidly inserted themselves into the surrounding mountain walls, though sometimes one had to be careful not to knock Thor into the cave walls.
Thor swayed back and forth, feeling like a roast duck hanging in an oven, not as handsome as he had imagined.
But he's still better than Byron.
Ten minutes later, he landed on the ground, looking disheveled and helpless, just in time to see Wright trying to suppress a laugh as he helped Byron untie the knot in his mouth.
Once you go deeper underground, the living space here is actually much more spacious than on the surface.
At the very least, all of them can walk upright.
Bill stood guard to the side; they were now deep underground, and could encounter enemies and monsters at any moment. They could no longer relax as they had on the surface.
But when he saw Thor being pulled down by several black tentacles, he couldn't help but glance at him a few more times.
Wright was the last to see Thor's new look, and he was so shocked that he immediately abandoned Byron and ran to Thor's side, asking, "You, are those tentacles from the Soul Eater Swamp on you?"
Wright couldn't resist reaching out to touch the black tentacles, but Little Algae immediately withdrew her hand behind Thor's neck as soon as Wright reached out, looking quite disgusted.
Wright's disappointment at not finding Little Algae was palpable; he even turned to Thor and asked, "Did you find this in the abandoned lab under the tower?"
"Yes."
The abandoned laboratory was no secret, Thor nodded in acknowledgment.
Although Xiaozao ran away with him on her own, she wasn't picked up.
"But I've been there a few times, and the Soul Devouring Swamp never leaves the abandoned lab. How did you manage to transplant it onto yourself? Can you sell me the method? I can give you 50, no, 60 credits!"
Although Saul was very interested in the credits, but...
"My method requires gaining the favor of the Soul-Eating Swamp. Senior Wright, when you go to the abandoned laboratory, will the Soul-Eating Swamp actively approach you?"
Thor's words instantly wiped the excitement off Wright's face.
"No, it doesn't like me." The light in Wright's eyes dimmed. "It just wants to strangle me."
Bill, who had initially been somewhat interested, temporarily abandoned his interest in the Soul Devouring Swamp after overhearing their conversation.
Suddenly, something rammed open the ground beneath Thor's feet. The ground cracked open, and a fleshy, worm-like creature rushed out, opening its large, round mouth to bite Thor.
Thor immediately jumped back and stuck to the wall of the burrow. He moved his hands quickly, preparing to throw something to strike the undead, but then a purple smoke enveloped the fleshy worm that was crawling out of the ground.
After being surrounded by purple, the insect quickly fell back to the ground and remained motionless.
Bill inhaled the purple smoke back into his mouth, revealing the pale purple fleshy worms that had appeared on the ground.
"You need to learn combat spellcasting as soon as possible." Bill habitually smirked. "The enemy won't give you time to cast spells and make gestures every time."
Meanwhile, Wright had already stepped forward to examine the thing Bill had killed. "It was a burrowing worm."
Thor didn't take Bill's words to heart, and he also went over to take a look.
He had heard of burrowing worms; they were creatures that lived deep underground.
Despite having "insect" in their name, their biological form is more plant-like. Their digestive organs and exoskeletons are popular experimental materials for apprentices.
Only after Wright enthusiastically dug out all the burrowing worms from the ground did Thor discover that these creatures, which should have been grayish-brown, had turned purplish-brown.
"Oh! Bill, you have to stop your habit of spewing poison everywhere." Wright picked up a bug from the ground with a metal rod. "See, this is unusable."
Bill scoffed. "Then you'd better be faster next time."
Thor was somewhat disappointed when he heard that the burrow worms were no longer usable, but he didn't show it, thinking that he would definitely encounter them again in the future.
Just then, he noticed that Byron, who had somehow returned to his normal size, walked up to Wright.
His mouth stretched out again and pressed against the purplish-brown insect's outer skin.
"Glug glug..."
As the water boiled, the insect in Wright's hand quickly turned grayish-brown.
"Byron, I'm really growing to love your little mouth more and more!" Wright exclaimed in delight.
Bill, however, wasn't so happy. He crossed his arms and glanced sideways at Byron. "You have to be careful when you're taking drugs. There are some toxins in my body that even I don't have an antidote for."
Byron gave a soft "hmm," seemingly oblivious to the underlying warning in Bill's words.
Thor paid no heed to the probing between the third-level apprentices. As a second-level newcomer, he volunteered to take over the task of carrying the spoils.
Wright enthusiastically helped Thor retrieve the underground burrow worm intact.
This burrowing worm is about the thickness of a forearm and two meters long. It's considered small for an adult burrowing worm.
The big guys all live deeper underground.
Thor took a silk pouch out of his backpack, gave it a gentle shake, and the pouch opened up to be as tall as a person.
Wright skillfully placed the burrowing worm inside.
With a final tightening of the opening, the silk pocket shrank to the size of a ball.
This is not spatial magic, but a compression technique based on magic.
Thor patted his pockets, in a good mood.
If we can find a few more burrowing worms today, then this underground haul won't be too bad.
With mixed feelings, the group continued walking forward.
They seemed to have entered a platform, and the caves stretched out almost straight, without going any deeper underground.
Thor looked around, hoping to find some more good loot. But unfortunately, the underground was generally barren, unlike in games where you could find a monster every few steps.
This is normal, given that the place has been explored by predecessors for decades or even centuries.
Thor took a deep breath and adjusted his mindset.
However, Byron, who was in front of him, suddenly stopped, and Saul nearly crashed into him.
Looking over, Thor noticed that Bill and Wright had also stopped, their hands raised and backs straight.
Both are in a defensive posture.
By peering through the gap between the three bodies, Thor finally saw the reason why their bodies were so tense.
Ahead, the road forks for the first time, with three lanes in total.
Each aisle can accommodate two people walking side by side.
At this moment, grayish-white, semi-transparent humanoid phantoms emerged from the central passage.
They lined up, raising their legs high and lowering them gently, standing on tiptoe, as if afraid of waking someone.
Their upper bodies swayed gently as they moved, and their heads swayed little by little.
They don't have arms...
