Chapter 114 Black Fortress
Chapter 114 Black Fortress
"Senior Byron, why did you turn into human skin and hang from the tree?" Thor asked with a dark expression as he looked at Byron, who had already sat back in the carriage.
He really treated Byron like a monster!
"Um..." Byron hesitated, glancing at the coachman who had been healed and was now driving on, a small gash on his neck. "I just... took a bath."
So you're going to hang yourself up and air yourself out too?
Thor remained silent.
During their conversation, they arrived at the entrance of Blackburg.
Saul and Byron got off the train one after the other.
Thor looked at the driver, who was still somewhat listless with the mushroom-shaped cap on his head, and said, "The mushroom on your head is basically fine. It will fall off automatically in a couple of days when it withers."
In fact, the mushrooms on the driver's head were no longer as plump as before, and looked somewhat wilted.
The coachman, who had been expressionless until now, suddenly looked up, glanced at Saul with tears in his eyes, and then knelt down abruptly, kowtowing hard.
The mushroom cap slammed into the ground with a "bang".
The driver said nothing, because it would be of no use for him to say anything.
Having survived countless hardships in the Wizard's Tower, he had long since learned the rules of survival.
If it's useful, you can live.
But he still kowtowed twice to Thor's back, the mushroom cap was smashed into the ground, then pulled out again, becoming more and more withered.
Although Thor didn't turn around, he heard the noise behind him.
"Actually, it was the senior who saved him."
"Mhm." Byron nodded to Thor and pointed at Thor.
Saul understood that Byron was reassuring him that he hadn't abandoned the coachman.
Byron's mouth split open. "The coachman is a tool. When traveling, one must take good care of and maintain the tool."
Byron's words sounded somewhat ruthless, but that was the wizarding philosophy: protect someone if they're useful.
The two arrived at the long, narrow gate of the castle.
The gate is also long and narrow, one meter wide and four meters high; even a slightly overweight person can't squeeze in.
Byron stepped forward, bent his knuckles, and tapped twice lightly.
Thor could sense that Byron's two moves actually contained magic.
Suddenly, a vertical pupil appeared in the middle of the gate, its pupil formed by circles of runes and magic arrays.
The pupils first swept over Byron's entire body, then took in Thor behind him.
Then the vertical pupils closed, and the door opened automatically with a "click".
"You can enter when the gate of Blackburg opens outwards, but when it opens inwards, it's the entrance for transporting materials. Don't go in by mistake."
After saying that, Byron went in first, followed closely by Thor.
The two walked through the gate, which then closed automatically.
The interior of Blackburg is not gloomy or terrifying; in fact, it can be described as magnificent.
However, the interior decoration is also rather slender.
The hall has a ceiling height of ten meters, and the crystal chandelier hanging at the top is five meters high.
It was wobbly and felt like it could fall at any moment.
The hall was only three meters wide, but it was dozens of meters deep. At the end was a symmetrical curved staircase, the steps of which looked only one meter wide.
They really don't give fat people a chance to survive.
Just as Thor was observing the entire Blackburg, a dark green branch suddenly emerged from the gate behind him, like a hideous, grotesque, dried-up hand, slowly and silently approaching the back of Thor's head.
The hand slowly transformed into a claw, about to grab Thor's neck.
Suddenly, a black tentacle emerged from behind Thor's neck, swiftly coiling around the sneaky branch. A deadly strangulation followed by a spinning whip-like motion easily eliminated the attacker.
When Byron and Saul heard the noise, they quickly turned around and found only a few dry branches broken into pieces on the ground.
When Byron saw the branch, he immediately realized who was causing the trouble.
"Hmm?" He murmured to the hall.
"Haha, haha, don't be angry, don't be angry."
Hearing the sound behind him, Thor turned around again and saw a tall, thin man coming down the stairs.
The man was over two meters tall, but as thin as a bamboo pole.
Byron gave the newcomer a cold look and said, "Hmm!"
"I know, I know." The newcomer still had a smile on his face. He looked at Thor, put his hands on his knees, and bent down. "Hello, hello, you must be Thor. I am the guardian of the Wizard Tower in Blackburg. My name is Mochi Mochi."
Thor hesitated for a moment, wondering if the person's name was Mochi Mochi or if he simply repeated it twice because of a verbal tic.
"Hello... Mr. Mochi Mochi."
The other person was still smiling, their eyebrows curving up like two parentheses.
"Don't be angry, don't be angry. I was just curious, curious about who could help Byron reach Level Three before he turns 30. I was even thinking of reluctantly asking him to help me, to guard the gate, after he was kicked out of the Wizard Tower."
"Just lucky, just lucky," Saul replied modestly.
Hearing Thor's answer, Mochi Mochi was even happier.
"Oh, I like you, I like you, little one. You're so thin, and just as pretty as me. My mentor is Mentor Anze, is yours too?"
"I'm working under Mentor Katz."
"Oh, Kaz is a good mentor too, just a bit boring."
Byron: "Hmm?"
"...It's just that I'm not mature enough, haha, I'm not mature enough."
"I'll take Thor to rest, you can go back." Byron couldn't listen anymore. He saw Thor coming alone, full of questions, and didn't want to waste any more time with Mochi Mochi.
"Okay, okay." Mochi Mochi wasn't angry. He took a step to the left, clearing the way for the two to go upstairs, and watched them go upstairs with a smile.
Byron led Saul up the stairs on the right to the second floor and took him to a room that was also long and narrow like a coffin.
"Why did you come here by yourself? Where's Nick?"
Thor quickly recounted what had happened in Sailtown.
Byron's expression did not look good after hearing this.
He opened his throat, revealing his sharp teeth.
"Sol, remember this. From now on, no matter who accepts the mission, you cannot complete it for them unless you have seen the specific mission details."
Thor was taken aback. "Is there some other secret behind this mission?"
"Think about it, the Sound-Grinding Fruit calms emotions. If someone inside the tower needs it, who is most likely?"
Thor paused for a moment, then realized, "Nick? If he needs the Sound Grinding Fruit, why doesn't he go himself?"
"That's the problem. His task was simply to go to Mosail Town and convey the Wizard Tower's stance. But he said there was a hidden mission: to investigate the reason for the reduced production of Mosail Fruit. But whether this hidden mission even exists, you don't even know. All you have is a letter of reprimand from Instructor Rum, isn't that right?"
Thor's expression was rather grim.
"Besides, he asked you to investigate the cause, but does that mean you need to solve the problem? If you find out who caused the reduced production of Grinding Fruit, how will you deal with that person? You don't know any of these things, do you? Because you weren't the one who accepted the mission."
Thor realized he had really been careless this time.
Since the first test, he has been noticed by various mentors. Although he doesn't receive any special treatment, he has faced far fewer crises in his life, and even his diary rarely predicts his death anymore.
Even though Saul had repeatedly reminded himself to stay vigilant, his vigilance inevitably waned somewhat.
"Senior, are you saying that Nick might have deliberately lured me to Sailtown? But what would his purpose be?"
Saul was asking a question, but in reality, he was asking himself.
There are no formidable enemies in Mosail Town, so even if one wanted to use barbarians to kill him, it would be unlikely.
Thor can outrun even if he can't win.
Did Nick have no idea what was happening in Sailtown?
While Thor was pondering, Byron suddenly said casually, "When Nick arrives, ask him."
Thor looked up in surprise, then chuckled, "Yes, let's ask him first."
Thor crossed his arms. "If I hadn't temporarily leveled up to level two, those red-skinned barbarians would have been really difficult to deal with. Nick will have to pay me more."
Byron: "Hmm...hmm?"
Byron looked Thor over again and noticed that his first-level assistant had leveled up on his own.
Was the reward originally intended for Thor a bit too little?
