Chapter 103 Your Dream is Terrifying
Chapter 103 Your Dream is Terrifying
"Why are you so nervous? I just thought Penny was getting bored by herself, so I wanted to take her out for a walk."
"Nonsense! If I hadn't come back early, Penny would have definitely run off with you!"
Ada grew increasingly frightened as he thought about it, and charged forward again with his fists raised.
Jayce scrambled to his feet, dodged twice, and on the third attempt, grabbed Ada's fist.
"Alright, alright, if you keep hitting me, I'm going to fight back." Jayce's tone became a bit arrogant, but when he suddenly saw a thin finger peeking out from the crack in the window, the disdain on his face lessened.
"You can't hide Penny forever." Jayce straightened his collar and shoved Ada back with one hand.
Ada took a few steps back, her back slamming against the door with a clanging sound.
He was so angry that he was trembling all over, his hands clenched tightly, his knuckles white.
Jayce ignored Ada, knowing that the latter wouldn't dare to actually fight him.
Because Ada is no match for him.
As he passed through Saul, he turned his head and gave a provocative smile.
"Hey, got a job?"
Thor didn't speak, but Jayce pointed behind him with his thumb. "You could have Ada support you. He's not very bright anyway."
After Jayce left, Thor approached Ada. "Are you alright?"
"It's nothing!" Ada replied curtly.
He stood there with his head down for a while before walking out into the yard to clean up the mess.
Instead of helping, Saul went into the room to check on Penny.
Penny stood on the ground, looking slightly bewildered, her silvery starry eyes losing their luster.
"Brother Thor," she heard Thor approaching and called his name again, clearly, "Why can't I go out?"
"Outside..." Thor smacked his lips, "It's pretty chaotic."
"Oh." Penny's voice was a little low.
She went back to bed, opened the closet door, and crawled inside.
After Ada finished tidying up outside, she went back inside.
He noticed that Penny wasn't there and the cabinet door was closed, so he went over and whispered something to her.
Then Ada came to Thor.
"You, you can stay here for three more days, then leave. I remember there are jobs in town that include accommodation, but they're a bit tiring. If you really can't stand it, then go look somewhere else."
Perhaps Saul's "idleness" and "indifference" over the past two days finally triggered Ada's bottom line, and he set a deadline for Saul to stay overnight.
"Okay." Thor nodded, ran to the table, and lay down with his back to Ada.
The room was quiet, except for Ada's long sigh.
That night, Thor managed to take a short nap, a rare occurrence for him.
This time, he knew clearly that he was dreaming.
In his dream, he returned to the morgue and lay down on the conveyor belt.
The hundreds of corpses he had handled stood around him.
A corpse with its head split in two, holding a machete, was aiming at Thor's skull.
A piece of meat, broken into pieces but stacked together like building blocks, is perched precariously on a hammer.
"Sol".
Someone is calling him.
Thor pushed aside the corpses that were trying to tear him to pieces and sat up from the teleportation platform.
The countless corpses fell down like dominoes.
Around the body stood Gorza, dressed in pink bandages.
Even knowing he was dreaming, Thor remained very respectful to the tower master.
"Tower Master."
With an incredibly bizarre movement, Gorza raised both hands and began to unwrap his bandages, bit by bit, starting from his head.
And beneath the bandages...
There was nothing there.
Thor slowly opened his mouth wide, surprised by his own guess about the Tower Master's identity in his dream.
Is this the subconscious mind?
The bandages were removed down to the eyes, and the two silver eyeballs fell to the ground.
Gorsa's mouth was still talking.
"Thor, do you know why I had you study the soul?"
Gorza's bandages suddenly lost their support and fell to the ground, but his voice continued.
"Tell me, does having only a soul count as living?"
The corpses surrounded them again, some with mouths and some without, all making sounds.
"Can a soul alone live like this?"
"Brother Thor! Brother Thor!" the girl's voice rang out, choked with sobs.
"What's wrong, Penny?" Thor sat up abruptly.
Penny's expression was obscured in the darkness, but her hand, clutching Thor's collar, trembled slightly.
"Brother Thor, don't sleep."
"Your dream was terrifying."
Was Penny just in her dream too?
Thor felt nothing at all.
He rubbed his slightly drowsy forehead, gently patted Penny's hand, and whispered, "Okay, Brother Thor won't sleep anymore. Penny, don't be afraid, dreams are just dreams, go back to sleep."
While Penny was in a daze, Thor cast a series of spells on her, one to heal minor injuries and the other to boost her resistance.
These are the only two forms of witchcraft he currently possesses that are beneficial to the human body.
There's no way around it; if Penny continues to be immersed in Thor's dream, going insane would be the best outcome for her.
After Saul's reassurance, Penny was visibly much more relaxed.
She climbed back into the cupboard and went to sleep with light steps.
Thor, however, couldn't sleep.
During his two years at the Wizard's Tower, he almost never had meaningless dreams.
So why did he have such a dream here, in Mofan Town?
Thor pondered, half-closing his eyes and relying on meditation to get through the night.
But for many, this night was a sleepless one.
A loud noise came from the tower standing next to the fruit fields in the northern suburbs of Mofan Town.
The soldiers guarding the Grinding Fruit all lowered their heads and avoided looking in that direction.
In the dilapidated tower, a middle-aged man with no body hair and no clothes stood brazenly in a magic circle in the top-floor room.
Outside the magic circle was the female corpse he had just thrown out.
The girl who was taken away in the morning was now lying in the corner of the room with her limbs amputated.
Her eyes were wide open, blood vessels were cracked at the corners of her eyes, and she died with her eyes open.
The first-level apprentice stood in the magic circle, his mouth twitching incessantly, his expression quite terrifying.
His chest heaved violently, and it took him half an hour to slowly walk out of the magic circle, onto the shelf outside, and put on the black robe.
"Rupert." His voice was low, carrying a chilling anger.
The sound wasn't loud, but it reached the ears of the designated person.
The mayor of Mofan Town, who had been waiting outside the tower, took a deep breath before pushing open the door with trembling hands and quickly ascending the spiral staircase that circled the wall to the third floor.
"Lord Shelley." As soon as Mayor Ruper entered, he saw the female corpse opposite him. His face twitched, and he quickly composed himself and bowed to Shelley, the first-level apprentice.
"This promotion attempt failed." A hint of resentment could still be heard in Shelly's voice. "But now I'm just a little bit away from becoming a second-level apprentice. Go find another suitable girl and send her over immediately!"
"This? We still need another girl?" Rupert hesitated. "We've taken away quite a few girls lately, and the townspeople are starting to feel uneasy. What if Lord Yuka becomes suspicious when he returns?"
Shelley stared coldly at Rupert, making him swallow the rest of his words.
"Once I'm promoted to level two, why should I worry about what he thinks?"
"Yes, yes..." A bead of cold sweat trickled down Rupert's forehead.
"Oh right, hurry up and get me two... no, five Sound Grinding Fruits."
Rupert was startled again. Despite having just been warned, he had to whisper a reminder, "But those barbarians are coming in a couple of days. Next month, it's time for the Wizard Tower's leaders to come and collect the Grinding Fruits again... We don't have many left."
Sheryl remained unconvinced. "No, Yuka will be back the day after tomorrow. If he finds out what we've been doing, he'll definitely stop us. I'm only a little bit away from level two now, and I have to complete my promotion before the day after tomorrow."
He waved his hand again, his tone softening slightly, "Once I reach level two, I'll have the confidence to confront those barbarians. Didn't we choose to do this in the first place to escape the barbarians' endless plundering?"
After hearing Shelly's words, Rupert's eyes hardened.
"Alright, I'll send someone to fetch the Grinding Fruit."
The mayor sent a message and returned with a sigh, saying, "The Wizard Tower accepted our tribute but refused to help us completely eliminate the barbarians, forcing us to secretly do business with them."
As Rupert finished speaking, he glanced cautiously at Shelley and lowered his voice again.
"I just can't understand why these barbarians want to eat the Sound-Grinding Fruit if they don't want meat?"
