Death Wizard Diary.
Chapter 1 The Non-existent Hardcover Book
Chapter 1 The Non-existent Hardcover Book
In a dark little room.
More than a dozen children slept on a large communal bed.
They were all boys around twelve or thirteen years old.
They huddled together, not sleeping soundly, not even daring to put their hands outside the covers.
"laugh!"
Suddenly, the candlelight on the left wall lit up.
The boy sleeping on the far left was momentarily blinded by the candlelight, curled up in his blanket, and kicked the boy on his right.
The boy on the right was kicked, and in his dazed state, he kicked the boy on the right again.
They kicked one after another, until the boy on the far right was slammed against the wall.
"Well……"
Thor groaned, rubbed his aching knees, and groggily got up, pausing for a moment to clear his head.
"Hurry up... if you're late, the wizard will turn you into fertilizer," the boy next to him reminded him as if in a daze.
Thor pressed the old wound on his forehead; the slight stinging pain brought him back to his senses, and his movements finally became nimble.
He quickly climbed out of bed, put on the servant's clothes hanging on the wall, pushed open the door of the small room, and went out.
Outside the door was a long, curved corridor, with a door every few meters on both sides. On either side of each door was a candlestick, its dim, yellowish light trying to dispel the chill in the corridor.
Saul looked at his left shoulder by the candlelight.
There floated a hardcover book, no bigger than the palm of your hand.
"Hasn't it disappeared yet? Maybe it's not my imagination."
Since the time travel a few days ago, that book has been hovering on Thor's left shoulder.
It can be seen, but not touched, and others can't see it either.
Thor called out to the system and begged for the chip, but received no response. In the end, he could only conclude that it was a hallucination caused by his head injury.
But the hallucination shouldn't last for so many days without disappearing.
Whether it was a hallucination or not, Thor had his own things to do and didn't have time to keep investigating it.
The place where he was was a wizard's tower.
Since his arrival, Thor has never left this tower.
Moreover, as a servant here, he has to get up around four o'clock every morning to mop the floors of the corridors from the eleventh to the thirteenth floors. There can't be any obvious stains or garbage left on them, otherwise they will be chopped up and used as fertilizer.
The task of cleaning the corridor must be completed before the candlelight turns from a pale yellow to a bright white flame; otherwise, if you happen to run into a wizard apprentice coming out, you might be captured and used for experiments.
Those wizard apprentices all looked strange and had terrible tempers, as if they were being chased by death every day.
Thor's previous incarnation was killed by a wizard's apprentice who smashed him with a book. His body was dumped in the storeroom and almost disposed of as garbage.
When he crawled out of the storeroom with his face covered in blood, even the butler almost thought it was haunted.
After confirming that he was still alive, the butler immediately assigned him work. Thor was sent to work before he even had time to recover from his injuries.
until today.
After the recollection ended, Saul went to the storage room next to the dormitory room and took out a mop, a bucket, and a trash can. He put them on a small flatbed cart and pushed it forward.
The wheels of this cart were said to have been engraved with a silencing spell to prevent disturbing the incredibly sensitive wizard apprentices.
Sol had carefully examined the patterns on it a couple of days ago, but apart from feeling slightly dizzy, he hadn't gained anything.
He yawned and began his workday in the cool morning air.
The corridor is more accurately described as a semi-circle, with a door every few meters on both sides.
Those doors have nameplates hanging on them, and the characters on the nameplates represent the room numbers.
Thor had transmigrated into a body that was literate, and after several days of exploration, he recovered some basic common sense from his fragmented memories.
While cleaning the eleventh floor, Thor heard a sobbing sound behind a door.
Whenever the crying began, the candlelight on either side of the door would flicker gently, the flickering light and shadows creating an eerie atmosphere.
Thor tightened his collar; the cold woke him from his drowsiness.
He quickly pretended not to know anything and not to have heard anything, and finished mopping the floor.
There's a strange guy on the twelfth floor who likes to throw trash out the door.
Hair, shredded paper, unidentified pieces of meat...
Thor had gotten into the habit of cleaning up the area whenever he walked by.
He used the small shovel hanging next to the trash can to collect all the trash, and as he turned to empty the trash can, he heard a faint scraping sound.
He quickly turned around and saw that the door behind him was opened a crack, but it was pitch black and he couldn't see anything behind it.
Thor immediately felt the hairs on his body stand on end. His hands trembled slightly. He wanted to run away, but he was also afraid that the wizard apprentices in the room would think he was being disrespectful.
He had only been in this strange and terrifying place for a few days when he was taught the most to maintain the utmost respect and humility towards all wizarding apprentices.
Thor is currently just a twelve-year-old child with no abilities and a small, thin body.
A powerful wizard apprentice could kill him with a flick of his finger.
As for wizards, well, someone of his status wouldn't even get to see one.
Thor waited anxiously for a while.
There was no movement behind the door.
Time was of the essence, so he remained vigilant behind the door, keeping a close eye on the crack in the door as he mopped the floor.
Finally, he walked over, but the door was blocked by the winding corridor.
Thor relaxed his tense shoulders slightly and pushed the cart up the ramp to the next level.
The thirteenth floor.
As a time traveler, Thor is quite sensitive to this number.
Even those who were originally materialists would choose to follow their hearts when they came to a strange world with wizards and monsters.
It is said that the last servant in charge of cleaning died on the thirteenth floor.
Thor had cleaned this place a couple of days ago and found nothing unusual, but this floor still made him feel uncomfortable.
That kind of fear that makes your hair stand on end and your fingers tremble even though nothing has happened.
Thor lowered his head and dragged the ground forcefully, using physical labor to dispel the unease in his heart.
However, his worst fears came true.
As he passed the third door, a pool of bright red blood suddenly seeped from under the door to Saul's right.
The blood was bright red, viscous, and had a strong, fishy smell.
It's obviously not a good thing.
The blood flowed to the middle of the corridor and finally stopped spreading.
As instructed by the housekeeper, Saul had to clean up all visible dirt.
He gripped the mop tightly, gritted his teeth, and braced himself to step forward.
Just then, the hardcover book on his left shoulder suddenly flew to his chest and opened with a clatter.
Thor was taken aback; this was the first time the hardcover book had changed.
He was overjoyed. Did the cheat system know he was in danger and come to his rescue?
Saul glanced at the blood on the ground out of the corner of his eye, but focused most of his attention on the book.
The hardcover book froze on a blank page, on which a few lines of text appeared rapidly:
[May 21th, 314th year of the lunar calendar]
While cleaning the hallway floor, you see a pool of blood seeping from behind the door. Although it's horrifying, you grit your teeth and start wiping the floor in order to complete your mission and avoid becoming fertilizer.
But this floor is so hard to clean! Why is there more blood on the floor the more I clean it?
You look down and realize that you are bleeding profusely from your own body!
The next day, a desiccated corpse was found in the wizard's tower's garbage room.
Thor's legs went weak, and he almost sat down in the trash can behind him.
He braced himself with the mop handle, looking at the pool of blood with lingering fear.
"So my cheat ability is a death crisis warning. It's actually quite useful in this terrifying and gloomy place."
He never imagined that the hardcover book would deceive him.
What value does he have to be deceived?
Saul carefully pushed the cart, trying to avoid the blood, when the hardcover book in front of him changed again.
You are afraid of that unknown pool of blood and decide not to clean up the ground.
In the morning, you were called away by the housekeeper because the floor was not clean.
The next day, new fertilizer was added to the greenhouse, and you were very pleased with your new, smelly appearance.
Thor: "..."
Depend on!
No matter which option you choose, you're doomed anyway.
New author, new book! Please add to your favorites and read to the last page. Thank you!
