In the Apocalypse, I Can Enter Hogwarts
Chapter 66 The Whole Story
Chapter 66 The Whole Story
"Kerry, Kerry Trollope, the boy from the common room that day..." Suddenly a figure flashed through Ian's mind. After remembering who it was, he chose to turn back.
Although that kid had some trouble, Ian genuinely couldn't stand the bullying, and judging from today's situation, not only did Penelope fail to resolve the matter, but it also involved upperclassmen from other colleges.
Of these three Slytherins, one is clearly an upperclassman; judging from his height and build, he is at least a third-year student.
"Mr. Trollope, lunch service is about to end. Aren't you going to the auditorium?"
Ian stood on the stairs, his eyes slightly cold, looking down at the group of people before him, and said with a somewhat indifferent expression.
"Thank you for reminding me, Mr. Titus. I have already had lunch."
Kerry, who had been facing away from Ian, turned around upon hearing this and replied with a somewhat subtle expression.
"Okay." With just that one word, Ian left without looking back.
"Human nature... ha, the most complex and ever-changing thing." Ian mocked himself inwardly.
The reason Ian turned away was that he saw a change in the other person's eyes. If Kerry was a simple boy who was bullied and harassed at the beginning, he had now completely transformed into an accomplice of the bullies.
Everything can lie, but the eyes cannot. Everything can go wrong, but a wizard's innate intuition never fails.
This is why old Tom was exceptionally lenient with Ian back then; some powerful or experienced wizards can truly sense a person's true nature.
The boy has changed, so Ian won't waste any more effort. Perhaps Ian could still pull him back if he put in some effort now. But... that's the responsibility of the boy's guardian and school professors, not him.
Moreover, Ian felt he had done more than enough, including introducing Penelope before and returning to see if she needed help. They were not related by blood or marriage, and he felt that he had done enough.
……
Returning to the common room with practiced ease, Ian always effortlessly deflected Ravenclaw's peculiar questioning style with his Zen-like wit from a past life.
For example, when asked, "What do you think wisdom is?" Ian would answer, "Wisdom is the heart." "Where is the heart?" "The heart is in the heart."
Which came first, fire or the phoenix?
"Neither the phoenix nor the fire came first; I came first. If I did not exist, neither the phoenix nor the fire would exist."
With each question and each answer, Ian noticed that the bronze door knocker remained silent for longer and longer periods, making him fear that one day it would utter a few Zen verses and then vanish in a wisp of smoke.
Then Ian would become Ravenclaw's eternal sinner...
Getting back to the point, when Ian returned to the common room, he was surprised to find Penelope sitting on the sofa. She seemed to have been waiting for Ian, and upon seeing him, she came over to greet him.
"Hey Ian, I was looking for you first thing this morning, but your roommates said they hadn't seen you since they woke up. Percy finally told me you were in the Gryffindor common room at 8:30 this morning. What? Don't we Ravenclaw have any good girls?"
Penelope joked, patting Ian's arm lightly as she spoke, like a little girl being coquettish.
However, Ian genuinely wasn't attracted to her looks; perhaps it would be a different story if it were Miss Beaver. Ian subtly shifted to the side, creating some distance, and said somewhat speechlessly, "I don't know when I became so popular that people are looking for me so early on a Sunday morning."
"Ha, someone has always been popular, he just chooses not to see it."
There seemed to be a hidden meaning in those words, so Ian quickly stopped himself. Who knew what else this Ravenclaw prefect would say if he continued?
"By the way, what did you want to see me about?" Ian asked, changing the subject.
As if seeing that Ian wasn't responding at all, a hint of loneliness and disappointment flashed in Penelope's eyes.
In an instant, she returned to normal and said seriously, "Kerry Trollope, you haven't forgotten, have you? The first-year student in the lounge that day."
"Yes, I know. I just saw him hanging out with some Slytherin students."
Upon hearing that Ian still remembered this, Penelope said with a hint of helplessness:
"His situation is rather complicated. The matter itself isn't particularly troublesome, but the root of the problem lies with two pure-blood families among the Twenty-Eight Holy Families: the Yaxley family and the Shakel family. As for this young boy, he can only be described as unlucky..."
A few minutes later, Ian finally figured out what had happened. It was both melodramatic and realistic: a poor Ravenclaw boy saw a beautiful Slytherin girl, the Axley girl, and they met on the train.
Then Carey became infatuated with her and was instilled with a lot of pureblood ideas by the girl. Then he went back to Ravenclaw and explained those "sacred" things that even he didn't understand to the other students.
Unfortunately, his roommate, Eisen Shaker, came from one of the few pure-blood families that were persecuted and fought back during that chaotic era. When Carey made those remarks, it deeply offended Eisen, to the point that Shaker later kicked him out of the dorm.
Including the two Ravenclaw prefects in their sixth year, their families had also been persecuted by pure-blood ideology, so after hearing about these things, they treated Carey differently. Although they didn't openly bully him, they certainly weren't going to be too nice to him.
"I never imagined that kids these days are so brainless. He doesn't even listen to what he's saying, even though he's a wizard from a pure Muggle family." Penelope said, her tone seemingly tinged with anger at his lack of self-control.
Penelope then spread her hands, saying helplessly, "That's why I said the matter is simple, but there are many things involved behind the scenes. I can only guarantee that Eisen won't kick Carey out of the dorm in the future, and I've told Dean Flitwick about it. That's all I can do."
"Thank you, Penelope. You did everything a prefect could do; he needs to be held accountable for his words and actions. Being young is no excuse, and the other person is the same age as him, so it just shows how stupid he is. Now that Professor Flitwick knows all this, let's leave it at that."
Ian understood the prefect's prefect's predicament, after all, Penelope was also a wizard from a Muggle family, so he immediately offered some words of advice.
"Yes, that's why I came to see you today. I also wanted to tell you to stay out of this," Penelope said casually.
"Hahaha, anyway, I still owe you a favor. If you ever need my help in the future, just tell me and don't hesitate. After all, I didn't know things would turn out this way when I asked you to do this," Ian promised earnestly.
This female prefect, who came from a Muggle family, could have easily ignored the matter. She could have simply told Ian when the time was right, or even said nothing at all. But after learning that there was a pure-blood family behind it, she still stepped in to at least prevent Kerry from being kicked out of the dormitory.
Whatever Penelope's purpose was in doing this, Ian had to accept the favor, since he was the one who introduced her.
Moreover, Penelope's actions would risk offending the Shackles, as the Ministry of Magic is still largely controlled by pure-bloods. Even though the Shackles have declined somewhat, they are still beyond the reach of a rootless girl like her. With just a word, they could shut the Ministry of Magic's doors completely to her.
Perhaps in the future I can only do some small business jobs, or stay away from the British magical world completely.
That's why Ian made that promise; in any case, he owes this favor.
Sure enough, Penelope's joy was immediately apparent upon hearing Ian's promise; she couldn't hide her smile.
Without any hesitation, she cheerfully replied, "Alright, our future Potions Master, don't ignore me when you need my help in the future!"
Upon hearing the other party's reply, Ian immediately understood the situation.
He silently thought to himself, "There aren't many stupid people who can become prefects. It seems that my frequent visits to Snape's office have caught the attention of someone with ulterior motives. Penelope is also taking a gamble, trying to become an angel investor and curry favor while I'm still in school."
Ian genuinely saw nothing wrong with Penelope's actions; everything she did was within the bounds of reason and law. Therefore, Ian not only didn't find anything wrong with it, but actually admired her methods—her principled ambition and disciplined struggle.
Ian was also very willing to help people of this character, and said seriously, "Of course, this is my promise, Ian Titus' promise."
Looking at Penelope, whose eyes were practically brimming with joy, Ian also smiled happily.
"Alright, it's time for my lunch break now," Ian said, yawning as he pretended to.
