"One, two, three, four... seventeen, eighteen."

"Eighteen Oren, thirty-seven copper coins."

"Damn it, what a bunch of poor bastards. They probably spend all their money on drinking and going to brothels."

Wayne counted the blood-stained Oren coins in his hand, snorted disdainfully, then wiped away the blood and stuffed them all into his money bag.

After the battle, he searched through the dozen or so corpses on the ground, but only found this little bit of money on them. Most of it came from the fat man, which made him feel quite disheartened.

This small amount of stolen money is a disgrace to the foundation of a gang; it's not even as good as what those farmers have.

Thinking about the Demon Dust bomb he had thrown out, he even felt like he had lost money.

Fortunately, although he didn't have much money, the other things on the farm gave him a pleasant surprise. After searching around, Wayne discovered that, in addition to his stolen mount Lucifer, there were two other horses tied up in the stable.

Although it's just a fairly ordinary item, it should be able to fetch a few hundred orens if sold, so at least my efforts weren't in vain.

Wayne put away his spoils, smacked his lips, and walked a few steps to the big wild boar.

He pulled out the meteorite dagger that Vesemir had given him, and following the memory of slaughtering a pig, he quickly cut open the wild boar's throat and arteries. After the blood had drained, he used a knife to cut open the boar's belly and took out its internal organs and intestines.

He worked quickly and efficiently, and in just over ten minutes, he had dismantled the wild boar into various ingredients.

After all, it's such a large wild animal; it would be a shame to leave it unattended, and waste is shameful. With such excellent culinary skills, these ingredients are enough for him to make many delicious dishes.

After dealing with the wild boar, Wayne sheathed his meteorite dagger and headed towards the interior of the farmhouse.

By this time, the remaining members of the Wild Dog Gang had already fled without a trace, and the few surviving vicious dogs were nowhere to be found. Only some personal belongings were left in the farmhouse, waiting for him to search.

After searching, Wayne found the property hidden by the gang members on the first floor of the farmhouse. There were about forty orens and several pieces of gold and silver jewelry, which were hidden very well. They were probably the guys' savings.

When he went up to the second floor, he immediately saw a rather luxuriously decorated room. The walls and tables were decorated with exquisite ornaments in a deliberately elegant manner, and there was a king-size sturdy wooden bed in the center of the room.

Judging from the layout, this is probably the room of the fat guy who rides the wild boar.

Upon seeing this, Wayne immediately perked up.

However, before he could make a move, the Witcher's keen senses told him that somewhere in the room, there was a living being, and the faint sounds of breathing and heartbeat reached his ears.

He followed the faint sound and discovered that it came from a wooden door hidden inside a wooden wardrobe, and that the door was locked.

Wayne thought for a moment, then decided not to open the door immediately, but instead to continue looting the room.

He guessed that the private space behind the wardrobe didn't belong to an enemy, but rather to a pitiful creature imprisoned by a fat man.

After all, the enemy wouldn't lock themselves in a secret room. Since they've already been locked up for so long, they probably wouldn't mind being locked up a little longer.

After some searching, the results were not bad. In addition to valuables worth hundreds of Oren, Wayne also found a metal box in a hidden space near the bedside, thanks to the slight trembling of the Wolf School badge.

Upon opening the tin box, one finds a staff resembling a withered tree branch, a book that appears to be handwritten, and a strange ornament shaped like an eyeball being held by an eagle's claw.

Instead of recklessly touching the two magical objects, Wayne picked up the book that had no magical reaction and began to read it.

There was no title, and the handwriting was messy, like a dog's scratch, but the contents of the book quickly caught his attention.

This is a book that records how to tame animals. It not only contains methods and tips on how to tame vicious dogs, horses, and other wild beasts, but also records some herbal recipes, materials and steps for some magical rituals. It is quite interesting.

Judging from the description, this must be the leader of the Wild Dog Gang. He must have obtained the method of animal taming from somewhere and recorded it in his notes.

Judging from these animal taming methods, the withered-wood-like staff, and the strangely shaped ornament, Wayne deduced that they came from a druid.

As for the druid's whereabouts, Wayne couldn't help but think of the living creature locked in the secret room behind the cabinet.

So Wayne stuffed the book containing his beast-taming tips into his pocket. As for the two magical items, he didn't take them. Instead, he placed the metal box in a conspicuous spot on the bed, then got up and went to the wooden cabinet. He opened the cabinet door, revealing the locked wooden door inside.

Wayne didn't have the key to the wooden door, but that didn't matter. After checking through the crack to make sure there was no living thing behind the door, he simply raised his hand and used the Alder sign to shatter the wooden door into pieces.

Behind the wooden door was a small space containing some food and a wooden ladder leading to the attic.

Without further hesitation, Wayne turned around, found an oil lamp in the room, cast a Quen shield on himself, and carefully climbed up the stairs.

Before even reaching the attic, a foul stench of feces and urine wafted from above.

The attic space was quite small. Under the pressure of the roofs on both sides, only a triangular space remained. In this small space, there was not only a simple straw mat and a tattered quilt for sleeping, but also a figure huddled in the corner, chained up with iron chains.

With white hair, a hunched figure, and an aged face, he wore a shabby dark brown linen robe. To prevent him from speaking, a metal mask was placed over his mouth and locked with an iron lock.

By the light of the oil lamp, Wayne recognized him as an old man in his fifties or sixties, but he looked quite weak, likely due to the long period of imprisonment that had taken a toll on his health.

Upon seeing Wayne carrying the oil lamp, the old man seemed to perk up instantly. He stared with bloodshot eyes and let out a whimpering sound from behind his iron mask, looking at Wayne with a pleading expression in his eyes.

Wayne's expression remained unchanged. After observing the old man's iron mask and the thick iron chain, and confirming that he couldn't open it, he spoke:

"Don't worry, sir."

"I am a witcher, and I have wiped out all the bandits here."

"You're saved now, and I'll find a way to get you out of here."

As he spoke, Wayne placed the oil lamp on the ground to keep the attic lit, and also to ease the old man's tension, before continuing:

"I need to go downstairs to find the key, otherwise, I won't be able to free you from these chains without hurting you."

He looked into the old man's eyes and asked, word by word:

"Could you wait here quietly in the meantime?"

Although it was unknown how long he had been imprisoned, the old man seemed to be able to maintain a good level of rationality. After listening to Wayne's words, the old man regained some composure, and the bloodshot in his eyes faded considerably, making him quite peaceful.

He watched as Wayne nodded heavily, then stopped making any more violent movements and quietly sat down on what was probably a straw mat for sleeping, waiting patiently.

Seeing this, Wayne became even more certain that the old man must be a druid who believed in nature. Otherwise, after being imprisoned for so long, an ordinary person would not be so calm when they encountered hope of getting out.

After finishing his conversation with the old man, Wayne quickly climbed down the stairs and searched the farmhouse for the key to unlock the chains.

After searching for a long time, they finally found it on the fat man's body. He had hidden it quite well, stuffing it directly into a hidden pocket of his coat. If Wayne hadn't had a clear objective, he wouldn't have noticed this detail at all.

After he returned to the attic, he removed the chains and mask from the old man's body.

The first thing the old man did was raise his slightly trembling right hand, press it against his chest, chant incantations, and use a spell that emitted a green light to heal himself.

Several minutes later, as the light faded and the old man's appearance recovered somewhat, he spoke in a very hoarse and weak voice:

"Thank you for saving me, Witcher. My name is Cairnst, and I am a druid."

"I've been trapped in these chains mixed with magic-resistant gold for far too long, and I'm extremely weak now. Could you give me some food?"
