Chapter 3 Quest System

Task system?

Upon hearing the system notification, Wayne was overjoyed. However, he didn't immediately investigate the system. Instead, he solemnly placed the Wolf School badge around his neck, stood up, gave the old Witcher a slight bow, and said with a serious expression:

"Thank you, Professor Vesemir. I will not let you down."

The old witcher stared at the Wolf School insignia around Wayne's neck for a few seconds before sighing and saying:

"My child, we of the Wolf School adhere to the principle of neutrality. The meaning of becoming a Witcher is to eliminate monsters, not to use our power to get involved in worldly power struggles."

"My expectation of you is not for you to become a powerful or influential witcher. I hope you can live safely for hundreds of years."

"Instead of dying a violent death because of a temporary struggle."

Is neutrality the way?

Wayne nodded thoughtfully; this was indeed the way the Wolf School of Witchers had always operated.

Both of them were silent for a few seconds, and Wayne took the opportunity to check the mission system he had just received.

A few dozen seconds later, he suddenly realized why he hadn't gained any experience points in his Demon Hunter class for the past month or so, whether it was forging skills or upgrading skills.

It turns out that in order to gain experience points, you have to complete the Witcher quest.

The quest system will only be unlocked once you obtain the school's badge and become a true Witcher.

His magic touch finally began to truly take effect.

According to the quest system description, Witcher quests are divided into four levels: Normal, Expert, Master, and Epic.

Each level of the task is divided according to its difficulty, and the rewards for completing the task are completely different.

In addition, regardless of the difficulty of the task, he can only accept one task per day, and the task list can hold a maximum of ten different tasks.

Thinking of this, Wayne raised his head, looked at the old witcher who had composed himself and was ready to teach the signs, and suddenly spoke:

"Teacher, can I ask you for a favor?"

Vesemir stared at Wayne for a few seconds with his cloudy vertical pupils. He was a very good-natured elder, not a strict teacher.

"What's wrong, child? Is something bothering you?"

Wayne carefully considered his words and said with a hint of pleading:

"For the hand seal practice later, could you set a goal for me by issuing a task, and then give me a small reward after I complete the goal?"

"For example, a book, some alchemical materials, or even a verbal reward."

The old witcher, somewhat puzzled by this, asked in a probing tone:

"Child, can you tell me why you did this?"

Wayne scratched his head innocently, as if he were just a boy wanting to be praised, and said with a slightly shy expression:

"I think if you can give me a goal, I will be more motivated to study and more efficient."

"Please, teacher, if you set a training goal for me every day, you can clearly feel my progress, right?"

Faced with his inexplicable request, Vesemir only hesitated for a few seconds before agreeing.

After spending so much time together, Wayne discovered that, apart from being preachy and rather old-fashioned and conservative, the old Witcher was actually a very fond old man of children.

Not only did she dedicate herself wholeheartedly to teaching him, but she also spoiled him, the only minor among the current members of the Wolf School.

Vesemir stroked his beard and then said:

"Alright then, child."

"If you can successfully cast all five hand seals during today's training, I will give you a reward."

As soon as the old witcher finished speaking, Wayne immediately heard the system notification.

Task triggered.

[Training Task]: Successfully cast five spell seals during the training process, at the normal level.

Whether to accept?

Without hesitation, Wayne accepted the task immediately. As soon as he accepted it, the task appeared in his task list in text form, making it convenient for him to check at any time.

This discovery delighted him greatly, as the Witcher System was crucial to his future growth and was his only means of survival in this dangerous and barbaric era.

Now that he's figured out how to accept missions, his strength will definitely grow even faster.

Thinking of this, Wayne smiled happily, looked at his teacher, and said sincerely:

"Thank you, teacher. With this goal in mind, I feel full of motivation."

Vesemir had no idea what he was thinking. Seeing the sincere smile on his face, he was also infected by it and his mood inexplicably improved.

A smile unconsciously appeared on the old man's face as he said:

"Alright, child, it's time to begin today's Dharma Seal training."

Upon hearing this, Wayne immediately sat up straight. He took every training session very seriously, never slacking off or being lazy.

As a sports student, his past experience told him that if he didn't work hard enough in his regular training, he wouldn't be able to succeed when it really mattered.

As the old saying goes, "Sweat more in peacetime, bleed less in wartime," and "One minute on stage requires ten years of practice off stage." These sayings all illustrate the same principle.

Moreover, signs are crucial to a Witcher's strength. It can be said that without signs and various Witcher potions, a Witcher is not much different from an ordinary swordsman.

"Child, there are five types of signs that we, the Wolf School of Witchers, frequently use."

"You've already learned them before, now answer me, which five mudras are they?"

Wayne didn't even need to think about the question; he just blurted it out.

"The Fire Sign, Igni".

"Defense Sign, Quen."

"Mind control, awesome."

"Mind Blast, Ald."

"Magic Trap, Arden."

Vesemir nodded, then added with some emotion:

"These five mudras can all be cast with one hand and do not affect our use of swordsmanship, but there is actually a less commonly used two-handed mudra."

"The Sign of Heliotrope is a sign that can defend against spell attacks from spellcasters."

"However, this hand seal is relatively difficult to cast. I will teach you it after you have fully mastered these five one-handed hand seals."

"Come, child, successfully cast all five mudras."

"This is a bit difficult for you; my task is not so easy to complete."

Upon hearing this, Wayne immediately stood up and went to the center of the training field.

The way witchers cast spells is different from that of warlocks, druids, and wizards.

Those spellcasters were born with a talent for spellcasting and were favored by the chaotic magic.

They unleash magic primarily through their own spirit and the magical power within their bodies, like commanding troops and using minimal force to achieve maximum effect, mobilizing the chaotic magical power around them to form powerful spells.

This method of casting spells has very high requirements for the environment; the denser the surrounding chaotic magic, the stronger their spells will be.

This is why, once they encounter the effects of anti-magic gold or anti-magic bombs, they become useless except for a few natural source mages.
