Although it was just a fleeting glimpse, Wayne had already guessed that the monster that attacked Geralt was the Little Mist Demon.
Even the veteran Witcher White Wolf probably didn't expect that when he finally managed to kill dozens of water ghosts, a strong little mist demon was lurking nearby, cunningly taking the opportunity to ambush him.
This is also because the surrounding environment is too dark. Although the cat potion enhances their dark vision, allowing them to see in the dark, that vision is almost black and white, making it impossible to see the fog in the dark.
This allowed the little mist demon to become almost invisible, and she was not detected.
For safety's sake, Wayne did not immediately approach Geralt, who had been knocked away. Instead, he immediately mobilized the remaining chaotic magic within his body and carefully cast a Quen shield around himself.
In the intense battle just now, in less than half an hour, he cast nearly thirty signs, a feat that other demon hunters rarely achieve.
Besides his talent, the system's bonuses, and the tawny owl potion, he also owes a great deal to the Doran's Ring he obtained yesterday.
Each enemy he killed restored a certain amount of mana, greatly enhancing his stamina. This allowed him, a novice Witcher, to defeat the horde of water monsters that even Geralt of Rivia had to be careful of.
After adding an extra layer of protection for himself, Wayne finally breathed a sigh of relief. He looked up and saw that the little mist sprite that he had just knocked away with his Aard sign had disappeared back into the mist upon landing and could no longer be found.
These lurking monsters are quite troublesome. Besides staying on high alert, the best approach is to wait for them to reveal themselves so you can take the opportunity to deal with them.
Left with no other choice, he had to abandon his pursuit of the enemy and quickly went to Geralt's side to check his injuries.
Geralt seemed stunned by the powerful sneak attack he had just received.
He braced himself on the ground with both hands, coughed up a mouthful of blood, his arms trembling slightly as he tried his best to sit up, but failed.
When Wayne came to his side, he reached out and grabbed Wayne's outstretched arm to help him stand up.
"How are you, Geralt? Are your injuries holding up?"
Seeing the concerned look in his junior's eyes, Geralt gave a wry smile. He was used to the pain in his body, but the embarrassing situation of being humiliated in front of his junior still made the famous White Wolf feel a little awkward.
He shook his head slightly and said in a hoarse voice:
"My carapace wasn't penetrated, I only suffered internal injuries, nothing serious."
"Be careful, this little mist demon is stronger and more cunning than its kind."
"It hasn't left yet, the battle isn't over."
Seeing that Geralt was alright, Wayne breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, he was also somewhat alert.
Although I knew that it was common for Witchers to get injured, I never expected that even a veteran like Geralt would be defeated by an ordinary Mist Fairy.
It is conceivable that when facing a more powerful monster, or someone as powerful as a Witcher, one could very well be killed in one blow, with no chance to regret it.
Thinking this, Wayne suppressed the slight arrogance he had felt from defeating the large group of water ghosts and focused his attention on perceiving his surroundings.
Despite having the system's abilities, his defense wasn't any stronger than Geralt's. If he had been the one hit in that sneak attack, he probably wouldn't have fared much better than Geralt.
However, a monster is a monster. Perhaps this little mist fairy was born cunning, but having lived in the underground ruins for many years and reigning supreme, it had no idea what fear or retreat was. After being knocked away by Wayne's Aard sign, it not only did not restrain its sneak attack, but became even more furious and wanted to launch a counterattack.
This allowed Wayne, who had calmed down, to discover its presence. The creature was cunning enough to know to target the weak. It manipulated the mist, enveloping its body, and quietly crept up to a spot not far behind Geralt, seemingly intending to ambush the wounded target again and kill him completely.
However, Wayne did not give it another chance. He released Geralt's arm, turned around and cast an Axii Confusion spell, freezing the little mist demon's movements for a second. Then, a sword light as fast as lightning flashed, and the silver sword, like a venomous snake, pierced its throat directly.
However, these monsters were so resilient that even with their throats pierced, their strength showed no signs of diminishing.
Ignoring its own injuries, the little mist demon roared and swung its claws, grabbing fiercely at Wayne's right hand that was holding the sword.
Seeing this, Wayne narrowed his eyes. Instead of fighting it head-on, he released his silver sword, rolled to the side to dodge its claws, and came to the side of the little mist demon.
He didn't give the monster another chance to hide. After regaining his footing, he immediately bent down and charged towards the little mist demon, dodging its claws once again. He grabbed the hilt of his sword again, and using the momentum of his body, he twisted it forcefully, severing the little mist demon's head.
With its head gone, a torrent of blood gushed out, spraying everywhere like a fountain. The little mist demon's body stood frozen for a few seconds, then, as if it had lost its support, it fell backward to the ground, completely lifeless.
Seeing that the enemy had been completely killed, Wayne shook the blood off his silver sword, exhaled a breath of stale air, and returned to Geralt's side, wanting to reach out and support him.
"Let's go, I'll take you back to camp first."
"There are doctors in the camp who should be able to treat you."
Geralt gave a wry smile and didn't try to be brave.
While the commission is important, your life is your own. Not fighting while injured is one of the ironclad rules that every Witcher knows.
However, as a senior, he still had to save face.
Geralt waved his hand, signaling Wayne not to help him, then turned his head and spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, saying:
"Let's go back to camp. I can manage on my own, I don't need your help."
