Chapter 107 The Griffin School Witcher
Time flies, and two months have passed in the blink of an eye. It is now the height of summer in July 1250.
Over the past two months, Wayne has purchased a large amount of raw materials, spending almost a thousand orens per month to train his alchemy, alchemy, and forging skills to level four.
However, his alchemy and forging skills had only just been advanced, while his alchemy skills were close to being upgraded.
In addition, due to diligent practice, and after consuming many metal arrowheads, his archery skills reached LV3, which means he has adapted to the ancient medieval way of using bows and arrows and has reached the standard for actual combat.
The only pity is that the elven bow and arrows that Toluville gave him, although highly accurate, could not match his drawing strength, which was almost four times greater than that of an ordinary witcher, and could not effectively utilize his amazing arm strength.
The task of finding a powerful bow was also put on Wayne's agenda.
After more than two months of effort by him and Fitz, nearly a hundred merfolk were killed by him using blasting fish. Even the slow-witted merfolk leaders in the underwater city noticed something was wrong.
In the days that followed, no matter how much Fizz provoked outside the city, the remaining half-fish no longer ventured out of their lair, but instead adopted a turtling strategy, forcing Wayne to stop his fish-blasting activities.
However, Wayne wasn't without options. In order to help the Lady of the Lake get rid of this trouble, he planned to wait for the right opportunity and invite the two sorceresses, Kayla and Triss, to help him on an underwater city adventure.
Of course, he will also invite a few more witcher companions to work together to try to eliminate this threat on the shores of Lake Vijima in one fell swoop, which can be considered as repaying a favor to the goddess of the lake.
That afternoon, as usual, he went to Master O. Henry's blacksmith shop to learn forging techniques and play cards.
The old blacksmith had accumulated a huge collection of various fine forging materials over the years. Relying on his superb Gwent skills, he had managed to obtain quite a few good materials from the dwarven blacksmith master, which made the old man very distressed.
Of course, Wayne was not a stingy person. To make up for Master O. Henry's constant losses, he would bring a bottle of good wine and some homemade snacks every time he went over.
The fine wine and food pleased the old dwarf greatly. He was even more affectionate towards Wayne than towards his nephew Andrew, which caused the young dwarf Andrew to complain to him several times. However, he was eventually won over by the even more fine wine that Wayne offered.
"Hey Wayne, you know what?"
"This morning, a witcher came into the shop. His silver sword was broken and was being repaired by the shop's old blacksmith."
Upon seeing Wayne arrive, Andrew immediately trotted over, took a jug of dwarven liquor from the basket Wayne was carrying without any hesitation, gulped it down, and then began gossiping about the shop.
"Although that witcher didn't talk much, I overheard him talking to the old blacksmith and heard that his next stop was Velen, where the nobles apparently have a bounty on a green dragon."
Upon hearing Andrew's gossip, Wayne immediately became interested. It had been almost half a year since he left Kaer Morhen, and apart from Geralt, he had not seen any other Witchers, nor had he heard any news about them, let alone this one who should be from another school.
Wayne quickly asked:
"Do you know where he went, Andrew?"
Andrew took another big gulp of wine, emptying almost a third of the two-liter jug in two gulps. He exhaled a cloud of murky wine, his face turning bright red, but his eyes seemed to become even more excited.
"He probably went to the Fox Tavern in Old York. It's the cheapest and most affordable place there. That witcher was dressed in rags and didn't look like he had any money."
"He'll come to pick up the sword tomorrow morning; he'll probably be staying in Vijma for the night."
Upon hearing this news, Wayne became restless. He handed the food and drinks to Andrew and said with a smile:
"These are some snacks I made to go with my drinks. I have roast chicken and beef. Take them to your uncle, Master O. Henry, to have with his drinks."
"Don't eat too much, or you'll get another slap in the face."
Andrew took the basket, opened the lid without a care, tore off a large chicken leg, stuffed it into his mouth, and said nonchalantly:
"It's okay, I'm thick-skinned anyway. I feel uncomfortable if I don't get slapped a few times every day."
Listening to Andrew's hearty remarks, Wayne couldn't help but smile. Although Andrew was probably older than him, Wayne thought the guy was just a child who never grew up, which was very interesting.
After waving goodbye to Andrew, he went straight to the Fox Inn.
It's been a while since I've been there, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to visit old York and his good friend, Aunt Melissa, who helped his mother a lot in the past.
After walking through the slums for about five minutes, the old tavern with smoke rising from its chimney came into view.
It was noon, so there probably weren't many customers in the shop.
As soon as Wayne got closer, he saw Old Yorker squatting on a wooden post next to the gate, holding a pipe in his hand, squinting one eye, and leisurely smoking the pipe.
The old man opened his eyes, saw the neatly dressed, tall, and handsome Wayne, and scoffed dismissively, saying in a slightly sarcastic tone:
"Isn't this young master Wayne? What brings someone as respectable as you to our run-down tavern?"
"This is not befitting your status."
Wayne knew the old man was stubborn but kind-hearted, and rather arrogant, so he didn't argue with him. Instead, he took out a packet of tobacco he had just bought from a high-end store, tossed it into the old man's hand, and said:
"Alright, stop teasing me, old man. This is a gift from me to you."
Old York took the tobacco, smelled it, then looked at Wayne with a knowing look and said:
"What's wrong? Did you come to see me for something? Or have you gotten into trouble again and want me to clean up your mess?"
Wayne waved his hand. He had indeed troubled Old York, the local strongman, with some things during his months living in Vizima, but he was now very well-behaved, spending all his time improving his skills and never making enemies.
"Haha, can't I even come to see you?"
After hearing this, the old man's face showed disdain again, and he laughed and said:
"Bullshit, you're not that sensible. Would you come looking for me if you didn't need something?"
"Alright, get to the point, spit it out, and I'll see if I can help you."
Wayne shook his head and said:
"I didn't come here to see you, old Yorker. I just heard that a Witcher has come to your shop, so I came to meet him."
Upon hearing this, the old man nodded thoughtfully, took a puff of his pipe, and said:
"There is indeed one, with a griffin-patterned badge hanging on his chest, which is very different from your Wolf School badge."
"He was sitting in the seat near the back door. He had a pretty good temper and seemed like a decent person."
As he spoke, he narrowed his eyes and said warningly:
They say that competitors are enemies.
"You're not looking to fight him, are you? If you dare to fight in my shop and smash it up, I'll make you pay."
